Occlusive repairing balm / ointment for very dry, cracked and irritated skin

Description

Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm 45 ml is a water-free, paraffin-based ointment designed to repair, protect and soothe very dry, cracked or irritated skin. The semi-occlusive balm forms a gentle, breathable protective barrier that supports the natural transfer of water vapour and oxygen, allowing the skin to ‘breathe’ while strengthening its barrier function. Enriched with Glycerin and Panthenol, it hydrates and supports skin regeneration, while Bisabolol helps to soothe irritation. With a minimal, fragrance-free and preservative-free ingredient list, it is suitable for sensitive skin and can be used on adults, children and babies on localised areas of dryness, minor irritations, superficial burns and post-procedure skin once re-epithelialised. The thick yet spreadable texture makes it ideal for targeted SOS care on hands, feet, elbows, cuticles and other problem spots.

Bnefits

  • Provides intensive SOS care for very dry, cracked and irritated skin on localised areas of the face and body.
  • Creates a semi-occlusive, breathable protective barrier that helps shield skin from external aggressors while allowing oxygen and water vapour exchange.
  • Clinically and dermatologically proven to accelerate skin regeneration and support the repair of the skin’s natural barrier.
  • Water-free, paraffin-based ointment that helps lock in moisture and prevent transepidermal water loss.
  • Enriched with Glycerin and Panthenol to attract and retain moisture and support skin repair.
  • Contains Bisabolol, known for its skin-soothing properties, helping to calm irritated areas.
  • Minimal ingredient formula, free from fragrance, colourants and preservatives, suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Non-comedogenic and well tolerated, suitable for use on the face and body, including on babies’ skin and in the nappy/diaper area.
  • Can be used on minor superficial burns and on skin after superficial dermatological procedures (e.g. laser, chemical peels) once re-epithelialisation has occurred, as advised by a healthcare professional.
  • Versatile multi-purpose balm for dry hands and cuticles, cracked heels, chapped knuckles, small rough patches and post-tattoo or post-procedure care (on closed skin).

Indications

  • Very dry, rough, chapped or cracked skin on localised areas such as hands, feet, elbows, knees and cuticles.
  • Irritated or fragile skin needing a protective, occlusive barrier to support regeneration.
  • Post-procedure skin care after superficial dermatological treatments (e.g. laser, chemical peels) once the skin surface has re-epithelialised and is no longer open, as advised by a dermatologist.
  • Minor superficial burns (on closed, non-bleeding skin) requiring soothing and barrier support, following medical advice where appropriate.
  • Dry or chafed baby skin, including nappy/diaper area, where a gentle, fragrance-free barrier product is preferred.
  • Supportive cosmetic care in conditions with a compromised skin barrier (e.g. xerosis, occupational dry skin), alongside medical management where needed.
  • Adjunctive at-home care in aesthetic/dermatology settings, to help maintain skin comfort and barrier integrity between treatments.

Formulation

  • Water-free, occlusive ointment with a thick but spreadable balm texture.
  • Paraffin-based semi-occlusive formulation that forms a breathable protective film on the skin surface.
  • Minimal-ingredient, fragrance-free and preservative-free formula suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Non-comedogenic, suitable for use on the face and body in targeted areas.
  • Dermocosmetic formulation developed under dermatological supervision for dry, cracked and irritated skin.

Packaging

  • 45 ml tube format designed for hygienic, targeted dispensing and easy transport.

  • Folding box typically made from FSC-certified paperboard as part of Eucerin’s sustainability initiatives (may vary by region).

Usage

  • Apply to clean, dry skin on affected areas as often as needed.
  • Use a small fingertip amount for both hands; a medium fingertip amount is suitable for localised areas on a baby’s skin, and a slightly larger amount for each foot or larger rough patch.
  • Gently warm the balm between fingers if needed, then massage into the skin until a thin, even layer is formed.
  • Do not apply to open, bleeding or wet wounds. Wait until the skin has re-epithelialised (a new skin layer has formed) before use on previously wounded or treated areas.
  • For post-dermatological procedures (e.g. laser, chemical peel), follow the advice of the treating healthcare professional regarding when to start application.
  • Can be used on babies and children for localised dry or chafed areas, including in the nappy/diaper area, avoiding direct contact with mucous membranes.
  • May be reapplied throughout the day whenever skin feels dry, tight or irritated.
  • For external use only. Avoid direct contact with eyes and mucous membranes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the listed ingredients, particularly Lanolin Alcohol or Bisabolol.
  • Do not apply to open, actively bleeding or wet wounds, or to infected skin lesions.
  • Avoid use on the eyes, on mucous membranes, and inside the mouth or nose.
  • Use with caution on highly reactive or severely inflamed skin; seek medical advice if unsure.
  • If advised otherwise by a healthcare professional in specific medical conditions, follow their recommendations over general cosmetic use guidance.

Adverse Effects

  • Possible mild transient local reactions such as redness, warmth, stinging or itching at the application site, especially on very sensitive or compromised skin.
  • Potential allergic contact dermatitis in individuals sensitised to Lanolin Alcohol, Bisabolol or other components.
  • In rare cases, occlusive ointments may aggravate folliculitis or miliaria in predisposed individuals if applied too thickly or under occlusion over large areas.
  • If significant irritation, swelling, blistering or persistent discomfort occurs, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.

Storage Conditions

  • Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use to protect the contents from contamination and excessive air exposure.
  • Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures (e.g. very high heat or freezing conditions).
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  • Use before the expiry date indicated on the packaging and within the period after opening (PAO) indicated by the open-jar symbol, if present.

Duration

Intended for ongoing, as-needed use as a symptomatic, barrier-supporting balm. Can be used short term for acute dry, cracked or irritated areas and long term to maintain skin barrier function in chronically dry or irritant-prone regions, as long as skin tolerates the product well and no contraindications arise.

Onset

Provides immediate perceived relief of dryness and tightness upon application, with clinically demonstrated improvement in skin regeneration and condition over several days of regular use (e.g. noticeable improvements often observed within approximately 7\u201310 days in clinical studies).
