Description
The 2.5V Replacement Medical Laryngoscope Lamp for Welch Allyn 04800-U is a miniature medical lamp designed for use in adult laryngoscopes and selected Welch Allyn transilluminators. Branded and sold by Welch Allyn, this 2.5 V, 0.95 W screw-base bulb (T-1.5 shape) provides a focused, warm white light suitable for standard laryngoscope blades and compatible instruments. The lamp offers a rated average life of approximately 16 hours, a colour temperature of about 2685 K and a frosted finish to help deliver even illumination. Its compact dimensions (about 0.63 in / 16.0 mm maximum overall length and 0.18 in / 4.58 mm bulb diameter) and single-ended screw base make it an exact fit for Welch Allyn 04800-series sockets used in Macintosh and Miller adult laryngoscope blades across multiple Welch Allyn series, as well as the Welch Allyn 40415 transilluminator. The bulb is RoHS compliant and cross-referenced to several industry part numbers, ensuring broad compatibility with OEM and equivalent systems.

Usage
- Ensure the laryngoscope handle is switched off and remove the batteries before changing the lamp.
- Allow the existing lamp to cool before handling if it has been in recent use, as it may be hot.
- Access the lamp holder on the compatible laryngoscope blade or instrument according to the device’s instructions for use.
- Carefully unscrew and remove the existing 04800/04800-U lamp from its screw base socket.
- Insert the new 2.5V Replacement Medical Laryngoscope Lamp for Welch Allyn 04800-U by gently screwing it into the socket until snug; do not overtighten.
- Reassemble the blade and handle (or the relevant instrument), reinstall the batteries with correct polarity and switch the device on to verify correct operation.
- Avoid touching the glass with bare fingers where possible; oils from skin can shorten lamp life. If the lamp is touched, gently clean the glass with a lint-free cloth before installation.
- If the lamp fails to light after installation, check battery condition, polarity and lamp seating. Do not use a lamp that appears damaged, cracked or loose in the socket.
Contraindications
- Do not use this lamp in devices that are not specified as compatible with Welch Allyn 04800 / 04800-U lamps.
- Not suitable for use in fibre-optic laryngoscope blades that require dedicated fibre-optic or LED light sources.
- Do not operate the lamp at voltages higher than 2.5 V or with incompatible power supplies, as this may cause premature failure or overheating.
- Do not use a lamp that is visibly cracked, damaged or has a loose base, as this may result in breakage or poor electrical contact.
Adverse Effects
- Under normal use, no direct patient adverse effects are expected, as the lamp is enclosed within the laryngoscope blade.
- Improper use could lead to excessive brightness or glare if the beam is directed into the eyes for longer than necessary, causing temporary visual discomfort.
- If the glass envelope breaks, sharp fragments may cause cuts or injury; broken lamps should be handled with care and disposed of safely.
- Overheating due to incorrect voltage or prolonged continuous operation beyond manufacturer recommendations could potentially damage the blade or handle and, in extreme cases, pose a burn hazard upon contact.
Storage Conditions
- Store unused lamps in their original protective packaging until ready for installation.
- Keep in a cool, dry place away from excessive humidity, dust and direct sunlight.
- Avoid mechanical shock or vibration that could damage the filament or crack the glass.
- Do not store heavy items on top of the lamp packaging to prevent crushing.
- Keep out of reach of children and untrained personnel to reduce risk of breakage or misuse.
