LED Examination Light
Description
The Daray X210 is a UK-manufactured, wall-mounted NviroLED examination light designed for medical consultation and diagnosis. It provides an intense, cool white beam with excellent colour rendering, variable intensity and a flexible gooseneck arm for precise positioning. The fully enclosed BioProtect-coated head supports infection control, while the high-efficiency LED engine offers up to 50,000 hours of life and significantly lower running costs compared to equivalent halogen lights.
Bnefits
- High-intensity LED illumination (approx. 32,000 lux at 0.5 m and 8,000 lux at 1 m) for clear visualisation of tissue.
- Variable light intensity (approx. 10–100%) with electronic dimmer control for clinician comfort and examination flexibility.
- Excellent colour rendering (CRI ≈ 95, R9 ≈ 88) and colour temperature around 4,200–4,300 K for natural skin tones and accurate diagnosis.
- Cool beam with no infrared component, reducing heat in the light field and improving patient and clinician comfort.
- BioProtect antimicrobial coating and smooth, fully enclosed light-head to assist in infection control and ease of cleaning.
- Low total cost of ownership – LED technology costs up to around 75% less to run than equivalent halogen lights and eliminates routine bulb changes.
- Long LED life (around 50,000 hours, equating to up to ~25 years of typical clinical use) minimises maintenance and downtime.
- Flexible gooseneck arm and multi-axis rotation (base and head) allow precise, stable positioning of the light patch.
- Multiple mounting options available across the X210 range (wall, rail clamp, desk mount and mobile base) to suit different clinical environments.
- Designed and manufactured in the UK, complying with relevant medical electrical equipment standards (e.g. EN60601-1) and carrying CE marking.
Indications
- General medical examination lighting in GP surgeries and primary care clinics.
- Outpatient and hospital examination rooms requiring focused, high-quality illumination.
- Dermatology, aesthetic medicine and skin assessment where natural skin colour rendering is important.
- ENT, gynaecology and minor procedure rooms where a high-intensity, cool beam is required.
- Veterinary examination and minor procedure use (as supported in manufacturer documentation).
Composition
- NviroLED LED light engine providing an intense white light beam with power consumption significantly lower than 75 W halogen equivalents.
- All-metal chassis and light-head for durability and recyclability at end of life.
- BioProtect antimicrobial coating on painted surfaces, handle and light-head to reduce bacterial contamination.
- Flexible gooseneck arm (approx. 0.8–0.9 m reach) attached to a wall-mounted box containing the integrated power-supply module.
- Built-in mains transformer supplying safe low voltage to the light-head from 230 V, 50 Hz Class I mains input.
- Wall-mounting box and hardware for either IEC plug connection (X210LW) or flush-fit hardwired installation (X210LE).
Formulation
- Wall-mounted LED medical examination light with flexible arm and rotating head.
- Variable-intensity illumination (approx. 10–100%) controlled via an electronic dimmer/on–off control on the rear of the head.
- Light intensity approximately 32,000 lux at 0.5 m and 8,000–12,500 lux at 1 m, depending on configuration and measurement reference.
- Colour temperature nominally around 4,200–4,300 K with very good colour rendering (CRI ≈ 95, R9 ≈ 88).
- Operates from a low-voltage output generated by an integrated transformer in the wall box (Class I device).
Packaging
- Supplied as a single complete examination light system for wall mounting.
- Typical kit contents: X210 LED light-head, flexible arm, integrated transformer/mounting box, wall-fixing hardware and IEC mains cable (for IEC-plug variant).
- Flush-fitting installation kit available as a separate configuration (X210LE) for qualified electrician installation.
- Includes user/installation instructions from the manufacturer.
Usage
- Installation of wall-mounted and flush-fit variants should be carried out by a suitably qualified person, following the manufacturer’s installation instructions and local electrical regulations.
- Fix the mounting box securely to a suitable wall surface and complete electrical connection (IEC plug or hardwired) as specified by the manufacturer.
- Attach the flexible arm and light-head assembly to the mounting box, ensuring all mechanical and electrical connections are secure.
- To operate, switch on the mains supply and use the control on the rear of the light-head to turn the light on and adjust intensity as required.
- Position the flexible arm and rotating head so that the light patch falls directly on the examination area; fine-tune using the gooseneck and swivel points.
- Avoid staring directly into the beam at high intensity and position the light to minimise glare to both patient and clinician.
- After use, switch the light off using the control on the head and, if appropriate, isolate the mains supply when the light is not required for extended periods.
- For infection control, regularly clean the smooth, fully enclosed BioProtect-coated surfaces using compatible disinfectant wipes or solutions recommended by local infection control policy and by the manufacturer.
- Visually inspect the device and mains cable regularly for damage; do not use if the housing, arm, cable or head appear damaged, loose or malfunctioning.
- Arrange periodic safety checks and servicing in accordance with the facility’s medical equipment maintenance schedule and manufacturer guidance.
Contraindications
- Do not use the light in areas where flammable anaesthetic mixtures, oxygen-enriched atmospheres or other explosive gases are present, unless specifically permitted by local regulations and the manufacturer.
- Do not use if the luminaire, flexible arm, mounting box or mains cable is visibly damaged, loose or has been modified in an unauthorised manner.
- Not intended to substitute for dedicated surgical luminaires in operating theatres where higher intensity and specific performance standards are required.
- Do not install or operate the device in outdoor, wet or excessively humid environments.
- Use only with the specified supply voltage and grounding arrangements (230 V, 50 Hz, Class I) as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Adverse Effects
- Transient visual discomfort or glare if the patient or clinician looks directly into the beam at high intensity.
- Potential eye strain or fatigue in clinicians if intensity is set unnecessarily high or the beam is poorly positioned.
- Inappropriate installation or damage to the device may increase risk of electrical hazard; such risks are mitigated when installed and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
- No specific systemic or dermatological adverse effects are expected when the device is used correctly as an examination light.
Storage Conditions
- Store the luminaire in a clean, dry indoor environment when not installed (e.g. in original packaging before installation).
- Avoid exposure to excessive dust, corrosive atmospheres, vibration or mechanical shock during storage and transport.
- Protect from direct moisture ingress, rain and extreme temperatures; follow any temperature or humidity limits specified in the manufacturer’s documentation.
- Keep the mains cable coiled loosely and avoid sharp bends, crushing or tensile stress during storage and handling.
Duration
Used only for the duration of the clinical examination or minor procedure, as required by the clinician.
Onset
Immediate \u2013 full illumination is available as soon as the light is switched on and intensity is set.
