Description
Leukoplast Sterile Supplementary 12 Ply Gauze Swab Pads 10cm x 10cm are high-quality, sterile cotton gauze compresses designed for general wound care. Made from 100% cotton gauze, they are soft, absorbent, skin-friendly and breathable, helping to absorb exudate and protect the wound bed. The swabs have folded or tucked raw edges to provide additional stability and minimise linting and loose fibres. These 12-ply swabs are suitable for use as a primary or secondary dressing, as well as for wound cleansing and skin preparation, and are supplied as a convenient pack of five sterile pads for clinical or first-aid use.

Usage

- Use the gauze swab for wound cleansing, gentle wiping of exudate, or skin preparation as required.
- Apply as a primary dressing directly over the wound when an appropriate non-medicated cotton gauze dressing is indicated, or as a secondary dressing over a primary contact layer.
- Secure the swab with appropriate fixation such as bandages, adhesive tape or retention dressings, according to clinical judgement.
- Do not reuse; dispose of the swab after a single use and after each dressing change, in accordance with local clinical waste procedures.
- Frequency of dressing change and duration of use should be determined by a healthcare professional based on the wound type, level of exudate and overall treatment plan.
- Do not use if the sterile package is opened, damaged or wet before first use.
Contraindications
- Known allergy or hypersensitivity to cotton or any component of the product.
- Do not use on individuals with a history of significant adverse reactions to cotton gauze dressings.
- Not intended as the sole dressing for heavily exuding, infected or deep cavity wounds without appropriate additional wound care measures and professional supervision.
- Do not use if the sterile packaging is damaged or has been previously opened, as sterility may be compromised.
- Not intended for long-term placement inside body cavities unless specifically used within an appropriate surgical or procedural protocol.
Adverse Effects
- Local skin irritation, redness or discomfort at the application site in sensitive individuals.
- Allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to cotton or dressing components (e.g. itching, rash, swelling).
- Maceration of surrounding skin if the dressing is left in place too long in the presence of excessive moisture or exudate.
- Adherence of the gauze to the wound surface, which may cause discomfort or minor bleeding on removal, particularly if used directly on dried wound surfaces without an interface.
- If any unexpected or severe reaction occurs, use should be discontinued and medical advice sought.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry place at room temperature, away from excessive moisture and direct sunlight.
- Keep in original packaging until use to protect from contamination and maintain sterility.
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
- Do not use if the sterile pack is damaged, torn, or wet, as sterility cannot be guaranteed.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
Duration
Single-use per dressing episode. Dressing change frequency and overall duration of use depend on the wound condition, exudate level and clinical judgement; use as part of a wound care regimen for as long as sterile cotton gauze swabs are considered appropriate by a healthcare professional.
Onset
Provides immediate physical absorption of exudate and mechanical protection of the wound surface upon application. Overall wound-healing progression depends on the underlying condition and comprehensive wound management, not solely on the gauze swab.
