Automatic Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor

Description

The OMRON M2 Basic (model HEM-7121J-E) is a fully electronic, automatic upper arm blood pressure monitor for home use. It uses oscillometric measurement and OMRON’s IntelliSense technology to inflate the cuff to the ideal level for each user, providing quick, comfortable and accurate readings. The large LCD display shows systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse rate, with a hypertension level indicator and heart rate symbol. The device stores the last measurement in memory and includes an indicator for irregular heartbeat on compatible versions. It is supplied with a standard medium upper arm cuff (22–32 cm), 4 AA batteries and instruction manuals.

Bnefits

  • Fully automatic upper arm blood pressure monitor with simple one-button operation.
  • IntelliSense technology provides comfortable, controlled cuff inflation without unnecessary over-inflation.
  • Measures systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate.
  • Displays a blood pressure level indicator to help interpret results.
  • Heart/irregular heartbeat symbol appears when an irregular pulse is detected during measurement.
  • Stores the last measurement in memory for easy review.
  • Supplied with a standard medium cuff (22–32 cm) suitable for most adult upper arm circumferences.
  • Compact, lightweight design for home use and easy storage.
  • Automatic inflation and deflation via an internal pump and air release valve, reducing user error.
  • Clinically validated blood pressure measurement technology equivalent to validated OMRON models under international protocols.

Indications

  • Self-measurement of arterial blood pressure at the upper arm in adults.
  • Home monitoring of hypertension and blood pressure trends between medical consultations.
  • Screening for high blood pressure in individuals at cardiovascular risk when used as part of a clinical care plan.
  • Monitoring of treatment effectiveness in patients taking antihypertensive medication, under medical supervision.

Composition

  • Main unit: electronic oscillometric blood pressure monitor with plastic housing, integrated air pump, pressure sensor and LCD display.
  • Arm cuff: standard medium upper arm cuff (HEM-CR24) with internal inflatable bladder and outer fabric cover (22–32 cm arm circumference).
  • Air tube and air plug connecting cuff to monitor.
  • Power source: 4 x 1.5 V AA alkaline or manganese batteries.
  • Optional accessories (not always included): AC mains adapter, alternative cuff sizes (small and large) compatible with the device.

Formulation

  • Non-invasive, oscillometric, automatic upper arm blood pressure and pulse rate monitor with microprocessor-controlled inflation (IntelliSense), automatic deflation and digital display of results.

Packaging

  • Retail cardboard box containing: M2 Basic blood pressure monitor, standard medium cuff (HEM-CR24, 22–32 cm), 4 AA 1.5 V batteries, Instruction Manual 1 and Instruction Manual 2/quick setup guide.
  • Device reference: HEM-7121J-E (M2 Basic).
  • EAN / barcode: 4015672112230 (regional retail code).
  • Additional identifiers used by distributors: e.g. internal reference 7211223 or catalogue code on France-Health and other retail sites.

Usage

  • Insert 4 AA batteries into the battery compartment, observing the correct polarity, or connect the optional approved AC adapter if used.
  • Connect the air tube of the standard cuff (HEM-CR24) firmly to the air jack on the monitor.
  • Wrap the cuff around the bare upper arm (left arm recommended), 1–2 cm above the elbow, with the air tube aligned over the brachial artery and the cuff at heart level; cuff range 22–32 cm.
  • Sit quietly in a chair with back support, feet flat on the floor and legs uncrossed; rest for at least 5 minutes before measurement and avoid caffeine, alcohol, smoking, exercise or eating for 30 minutes beforehand.
  • Remain still and do not talk during the measurement.
  • Press the START/STOP button once. The cuff will automatically inflate and then deflate while measuring blood pressure and pulse.
  • Wait for the measurement to complete; systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse rate will appear on the display, along with any blood pressure level indicator or heart/irregular heartbeat symbol if applicable.
  • Record the result if required for a blood pressure diary; the device automatically stores the last measurement in memory.
  • Press START/STOP to switch off the monitor or it will switch off automatically after a short period.
  • Use only the compatible OMRON cuffs and accessories specified for this model; do not use on infants or children unless explicitly indicated in the manual and advised by a healthcare professional.

Contraindications

  • Do not use on infants or young children; the device and cuff are intended for adults whose arm size fits the specified cuff range.
  • Do not use on an arm with an intravenous drip, blood transfusion line, or where intravascular access, arteriovenous shunt, or other vascular access is present.
  • Do not use on an injured arm, arm under medical treatment or with severe skin lesions at the cuff site.
  • Use with caution and only under medical advice in patients with common arrhythmias (e.g., atrial fibrillation, frequent premature beats), arterial sclerosis, poor peripheral perfusion, diabetes, pregnancy or pre-eclampsia, or renal disease, as these conditions may affect readings.
  • Not intended for use in environments with high-frequency surgical equipment, MRI or CT scanners, oxygen-rich or flammable gas atmospheres.

Adverse Effects

  • Temporary discomfort, pressure sensation or pain in the upper arm during cuff inflation.
  • Possible transient bruising, redness or superficial skin irritation under the cuff, especially with frequent measurements or in patients with fragile skin or bleeding disorders.
  • Very rare risk of circulatory impairment in the limb if the cuff is applied incorrectly or left inflated for too long; cuff should be removed immediately if pain, numbness or discoloration occurs.

Storage Conditions

  • Store the monitor and cuff in a dry place, protected from moisture, direct sunlight and excessive dust.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity; keep within the operating and storage ranges specified in the instruction manual.
  • Do not store with the cuff or air tube sharply bent, twisted or under heavy objects.
  • Remove the batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent battery leakage.
  • Keep out of reach of infants and young children due to small parts and tubing.

Duration

Used intermittently for individual blood pressure measurements as needed; no fixed treatment duration. Long-term home monitoring schedule should be determined by a healthcare professional.

Onset

Immediate: a single measurement cycle typically completes within seconds and readings are available as soon as the cuff deflates and the result appears on the display.
