ESR tube rack with graduation
Description
The Greiner Bio-One Rack, ESR, Blue, For 10 Tubes, ESR, 729070, Graduated (item 836075) is a non-sterile ESR rack with an integrated graduation scale, designed for manual or back-up erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) measurements using VACUETTE ESR tubes 729070 and 729090. The light blue rack provides 10 vertical tube positions and a clearly printed scale, enabling direct visual reading of ESR values as part of the VACUETTE closed ESR system when automated devices are unavailable or when manual measurement is preferred.
Bnefits
- Holds up to 10 ESR tubes securely in an upright position for sedimentation.
- Specifically designed for VACUETTE ESR tubes 729070 and 729090, ensuring optimal fit and alignment.
- Integrated graduation scale allows direct visual reading of erythrocyte sedimentation rates.
- Serves as a back-up or manual measuring rack in the VACUETTE ESR system if automated ESR analysers are not available.
- Non-sterile, reusable plastic construction suitable for routine use in clinical laboratories.
- Stable, bench-top design reduces the risk of tubes tipping and sample spillage.
- Supports closed ESR measurement with VACUETTE tubes, helping to minimise operator contact with blood samples.
- Packaged to support laboratory inventory management (1 rack per inner pack, 8 racks per case).
Indications
- Accessory for manual or back-up ESR measurements using VACUETTE ESR tubes.
- Designed for use with VACUETTE ESR tubes 729070 and 729090 as part of the Greiner Bio-One ESR system.
- Intended for clinical laboratories, hospital laboratories and diagnostic facilities performing erythrocyte sedimentation rate testing.
- Provides graduated scale reading when used in conjunction with recommended ESR procedures and sedimentation times.
Composition
- Material: durable plastic (laboratory-grade synthetic material; exact polymer not specified in public documentation).
- Colour: blue rack body with contrasting graduation scale for ESR reading.
- Non-sterile accessory intended for repeated laboratory use.
- Printed or moulded graduation marks along the rack corresponding to ESR measurement scale.

Packaging
- Supplied as one ESR rack (item 836075) per inner pack.
- Outer shipping carton typically contains 8 individually packed ESR racks.
- Non-sterile; supplied without ESR tubes (VACUETTE ESR tubes 729070 / 729090 ordered separately).
- Outer label identifies product as ESR Rack with graduation for 729070 / 729090, non-sterile, with Greiner Bio-One branding and item number.
Usage
- Place the ESR rack on a stable, level laboratory bench in the ESR measurement area.
- Fill VACUETTE ESR tubes 729070 or 729090 according to manufacturer instructions and laboratory protocols, then insert the tubes vertically into the 10 positions of the rack.
- Ensure each tube is fully seated and upright so that the blood column and sedimentation interface can be accurately aligned with the graduation scale.
- Start timing the ESR measurement according to the laboratory’s established protocol (e.g., 60 minutes) immediately after placing the tubes in the rack.
- After the prescribed sedimentation period, read the ESR value directly from the graduation scale aligned with the top of the erythrocyte column for each tube.
- Record results in the laboratory information system or on appropriate worksheets according to local procedures.
- After use, remove the tubes and dispose of them and any biological material according to biohazard and sharps regulations.
- Clean the rack regularly using an appropriate laboratory disinfectant or mild detergent solution if contamination occurs, following local biosafety guidelines.
- Inspect the rack periodically for cracks, deformation or fading of graduation markings; replace the rack if structural integrity or readability is compromised.
Contraindications
- Not intended for direct contact with patients or for use as an implantable or invasive device.
- Do not use with tubes other than compatible VACUETTE ESR tubes 729070 and 729090 where correct fit and scale alignment cannot be assured.
- Do not use if the rack is visibly damaged, cracked, warped or if the graduation markings are illegible, as this may lead to inaccurate ESR readings.
- Not suitable for sterile or aseptic environments that prohibit non-sterile plastic equipment unless appropriately decontaminated and approved by local protocols.
Adverse Effects
- No direct patient adverse effects are expected as the product is used only as a laboratory accessory.
- Improper use or damaged racks may increase the risk of tube tipping, breakage or blood sample spillage, creating occupational exposure risks for laboratory staff.
- Incorrect tube placement or poor visibility of graduation marks can lead to inaccurate ESR readings, potentially affecting clinical interpretation if not detected.
Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature in a clean, dry laboratory environment.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and excessive heat to prevent warping of plastic and fading of graduation markings.
- Avoid exposure to strong solvents or aggressive chemicals that could damage the rack material or printed graduations.
- Store where the rack is protected from crushing, bending or other mechanical damage when not in use.
Duration
Not applicable \u2013 this is a laboratory accessory for ESR testing and is not used directly in patient treatment.
Onset
