Mobile HD-LED minor surgical light on telescopic stand

Description

The Astralite HD-LED Mobile Light (AL10 70 kLux) is a high-performance minor surgical and examination lamp from Brandon Medical, mounted on a mobile telescopic stand. Using HD-LED® technology and a patented optical system, it delivers up to 70,000 lux of intense, cold white light at 1 metre with exceptional colour rendition and a large 250 mm illuminated field. The mobile base with adjustable-height stand (approx. 1,100–1,800 mm) and multiple rotation axes allows the light head to be positioned all around the couch for optimal access. The AL10 model offers 70,000 lux at 1 m, while the higher-power ALE10 version provides 100,000 lux; this context refers specifically to the 70 kLux AL10 mobile configuration. With long LED life (>50,000 hours), low power consumption (<32 VA) and integrated antimicrobial technology in the lamp head surfaces, the Astralite mobile light is designed for demanding clinical environments including minor surgery, treatment rooms, outpatient clinics and aesthetic or dermatology procedures.

Bnefits

  • High-intensity cold light providing 70,000 lux at 1 metre for demanding minor surgical and examination procedures
  • HD-LED® technology with excellent colour rendering for accurate tissue and blood colour differentiation
  • Mobile telescopic stand with adjustable height (approximately 1,100–1,800 mm) and 5 rotations, allowing the lamp head to be positioned all around the couch
  • Focusable beam controlled by twisting the handle, enabling adjustment of illuminated field size and intensity at the working distance
  • Eight-step light intensity control for tailoring brightness to procedure and operator preference
  • Adjustable colour contrast using Red Balance Control, allowing the colour temperature to be tuned to suit different tissue types and wound appearances
  • LED life greater than 50,000 hours (more than 20 years of typical use), with no bulb replacement required, providing very low lifetime running cost
  • Low power consumption (<32 VA) and efficient light output make it economical and environmentally friendly
  • Lamp head surfaces incorporate antimicrobial additives (Biomaster in plastics, Ultra Fresh in paint) and smooth, sealed design to support infection prevention and easy cleaning
  • LEDs are mercury-free and free from CFCs, POPs, VOCs, halogens and other harmful chemicals

Indications

  • Minor surgical procedures in operating departments, day surgery units and procedure rooms
  • General and specialist examinations in outpatient clinics, GP surgeries and ambulatory care settings
  • Dermatology and aesthetic procedures requiring high-quality, shadow-controlled illumination
  • Emergency department (A&E) and trauma rooms for suturing, wound care and minor interventions
  • Dental and maxillofacial examinations and procedures where mobile focused lighting is required
  • Veterinary minor surgery and examination (where local regulations permit use of the device in veterinary settings)

Composition

  • HD-LED lamp head incorporating multiple high-efficiency white LEDs distributed across the lighting surface
  • Precision optics and patented optical system to provide controlled, focusable light beam and large, uniform illuminated field
  • Lamp head plastics moulded with silver ion-based Biomaster antimicrobial additive
  • Lamp head paint incorporating Ultra Fresh antimicrobial additive
  • Sealed lamp head construction to prevent ingress of dirt and liquids
  • Articulated arm assembly with multiple rotational joints (5 rotations) for wide movement range
  • Telescopic mobile stand with weighted base and castors for stability and manoeuvrability
  • Electronic driver and control circuitry providing Auto-On, intensity control and colour adjustment
  • Mains power cable and plug suitable for regional electrical standards

Formulation

  • Non-invasive, mains-powered, solid-state LED minor surgical and examination luminaire
  • Mobile, floor-standing configuration with telescopic height adjustment and HD-LED lamp head
  • Delivers 70,000 lux at 1 m in the AL10 configuration, with adjustable colour temperature (approx. 3,500–5,000 K) and 8-step dimming via integrated controls
  • Designed for indoor clinical use as a Class I medical electrical device in accordance with relevant standards

Packaging

  • Astralite AL10 HD-LED lamp head (70 kLux) with integrated controls and HD-LED module
  • Articulated suspension arm connected to a telescopic stand
  • Mobile base with lockable castors (design may vary slightly by distributor but provides stable support)
  • Mains power lead and plug
  • User manual / installation and operation guide
  • Supplied as a complete mobile lighting system, typically flat-packed or partially assembled for on-site installation

Usage

  • Assembly and commissioning should be carried out by suitably trained personnel following Brandon Medical’s instructions and local electrical regulations.
  • Position the mobile base on a level surface and assemble the telescopic stand, arm and lamp head according to the installation guide, ensuring all fixings are secure.
  • Connect the power lead to a suitable mains outlet and verify earth/ground connection in accordance with medical electrical standards.
  • Adjust the stand height (approx. 1,100–1,800 mm) so that the lamp head can be comfortably positioned at the required working distance (typically around 1 m).
  • Use the articulated arm and 5 rotational joints to swing the lamp head around the couch, positioning the beam at the required angle and location.
  • Switch on the light using the Auto-On feature by touching any control and set intensity via the 8-step dimmer; adjust beam focus by twisting the handle and use Red Balance Control to tune colour temperature/contrast as required.
  • During procedures, avoid direct glare into the eyes of staff or patients by angling the light appropriately.
  • After use, turn off the lamp, return the head and stand to a safe parked position and ensure the castors are locked if required.
  • Clean the lamp head, handle, arm and stand regularly using approved disinfectant wipes/solutions compatible with the materials; avoid abrasive or solvent-based cleaners that could damage antimicrobial surfaces or paint.
  • Arrange routine safety checks and servicing in accordance with Brandon Medical’s recommendations and local biomedical engineering policies.

Contraindications

  • Not suitable for use in explosive or flammable atmospheres (e.g., in the presence of flammable anaesthetic gases or vapours) unless specifically certified for such environments.
  • Do not use if the lamp head, stand, base or electrical cable is visibly damaged, unstable or malfunctioning.
  • Not intended for outdoor use or in areas with excessive moisture, corrosive vapours or extreme temperatures beyond the specified operating range.
  • Use is contraindicated where routine electrical safety and medical equipment checks cannot be performed as required by local regulations.
  • The light should not be used as a physical support or leaned on by staff or patients; the arm is designed only to support the lamp head.

Adverse Effects

  • Possible temporary glare or visual discomfort if the light is directed into the eyes at high intensity.
  • If incorrectly positioned, residual shadows may affect visibility, though HD-LED design and distributed LEDs generally minimise shadowing.
  • Use of non-approved cleaning agents may degrade plastic components, antimicrobial additives or paint, potentially reducing infection-control performance.
  • Mechanical injury risk if the stand or arm is knocked over or misused, underscoring the need for proper positioning and handling.

Storage Conditions

  • Designed for continuous installation in indoor clinical areas; when not in use, park the lamp in a safe position away from high-traffic routes and lock the castors if present.
  • Operate and store in a clean, dry environment within the temperature and humidity range specified by Brandon Medical (typically normal room conditions).
  • Protect the device from excessive dust, direct water jets and corrosive chemicals.
  • For extended periods of non-use, disconnect from the mains supply and ensure the unit is protected from accidental impact or tipping.

Duration

The light is used for the duration of examinations or procedures as required. With LED life rated at more than 50,000 hours, the Astralite AL10 is designed to provide over 20 years of normal clinical use without LED replacement.

Onset

Illumination is immediate when switched on or when controls are touched (Auto-On), with full light output available instantly and no warm-up time required.
