Usage

  • Connect the power supply as specified and check functionality of height and backrest actuators before clinical use.
  • Adjust couch height using the electric controls to a safe working level for clinicians, minimising bending and manual handling strain.
  • Use the motorised backrest to position the patient appropriately for examination or treatment (supine, semi-recumbent, sitting or prone with breathing hole).
  • Apply and adjust accessories such as arms, cotsides or divided legs if fitted, ensuring they are securely locked before use.
  • Ensure retractable castors are set so that the couch is stable before the patient mounts the couch; engage castors for moving and disengage for treatment.
  • Observe the maximum safe working load of 320 kg and do not exceed this limit.
  • Clean the vinyl upholstery and frame between patients using suitable healthcare-approved cleaning agents compatible with anti-microbial vinyl; avoid harsh solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Periodically inspect the couch for signs of wear, damage to upholstery, loose fixings, or actuator issues and arrange servicing or repair according to the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule.
  • In the event of power failure, follow local procedures for safely lowering or repositioning the couch using any back-up features supplied (e.g. optional battery back-up if fitted).

Contraindications

  • Use with patients whose weight exceeds the stated safe working load and lift capacity of 320 kg.
  • Use in environments where the floor cannot safely support the combined weight of the couch and maximum patient load.
  • Use with damaged or heavily worn upholstery, frame or actuators that may compromise patient or clinician safety.
  • Use in explosive or highly flammable atmospheres or where the electrical classification requirements exceed the couch’s ratings.
  • Improper use as a lifting platform for equipment or as a step or seat for multiple individuals.

Adverse Effects

  • Potential risk of patient or staff injury if the couch is used beyond its safe working load or if brakes/castors are not correctly set before mounting or dismounting.
  • Risk of entrapment or pinch injury around moving parts (e.g. during height or backrest adjustment) if used without due care.
  • Possible discomfort or pressure issues for patients if used for very prolonged periods without appropriate pressure-relieving accessories.
  • Electrical hazard risk if the power cable or actuators are damaged and not inspected or serviced as recommended.

Storage Conditions

  • Designed for continuous use in clinical areas; when not in use, leave in a safe parked position with castors locked and height lowered if appropriate.
  • Operate and store in a dry indoor environment away from excessive moisture and extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid prolonged, direct exposure to strong sunlight on upholstery to reduce fading and material degradation.
  • Ensure power cable is routed to avoid trip hazards and is not crushed under wheels or furniture.
  • If the couch is taken out of service for storage, disconnect from mains power, cover to protect from dust, and store in a dry, secure area.
