Treatment couch breathing slot option
Description
The Breathing Slot Option for Plinth 2000 Couches is a factory-fitted couch customisation that adds an integrated stitched breathing/face slot to the head section of applicable Plinth 2000 models. Ordered at the same time as a new couch, this option allows patients to lie prone with their face comfortably supported in the slot, helping to keep the airway clear and improving comfort during examinations and treatments. The breathing slot is formed within the couch upholstery and padding during manufacture, providing a neat, durable finish that matches the selected couch colour and specification.
Bnefits
- Factory-fitted breathing slot integrated into the head section of compatible Plinth 2000 couches, ensuring correct sizing and finish.
- Improves comfort for prone patients by providing a dedicated face slot to help maintain a neutral neck position and clear airway.
- Enhances versatility of Plinth 2000 couches for treatments that require prone positioning, such as physiotherapy, osteopathic and massage procedures.
- Stitched and finished at manufacture to match the couch upholstery and maintain a professional appearance.
- Supplied as part of the couch build, avoiding the need for aftermarket modifications or third-party alterations.
- Available on a range of Plinth 2000 couch models that support optional breathing holes/slots, providing consistent functionality across the range.
Indications
- Adding a breathing/face slot to new Plinth 2000 couches to support prone lying patients comfortably.
- Use in physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, massage and general treatment settings where prone positioning is required.
- Clinics, GP surgeries, hospitals and therapy practices purchasing new Plinth 2000 couches and needing built-in face support for prone treatments.
Composition
- Key-hole or slot-shaped opening formed in the couch head section upholstery and foam padding during manufacture.
- Upholstery material matched to the selected Plinth 2000 couch vinyl (e.g. Ambla or equivalent medical-grade upholstery).
- Internal foam carefully shaped and stitched around the slot to maintain comfort and durability.
- Integrated into the standard steel frame and cushioning structure of the chosen Plinth 2000 couch model.
Formulation
- Non-powered, integrated couch option consisting of a stitched breathing slot within the head section.
- Manufactured as part of the couch structure rather than as a removable accessory.
- Designed to be compatible only with specified Plinth 2000 couch models that accept the breathing slot option.
Packaging
- No separate physical packaging – the breathing slot is incorporated into the couch at the point of manufacture.
- Listed as an additional line item on the couch order and invoice when selected.
- Supplied as part of the finished Plinth 2000 couch delivered to the customer.
Usage
- This option must be selected and ordered at the same time as a new compatible Plinth 2000 couch; it cannot normally be retrofitted to an existing couch.
- Once delivered, position the couch and adjust height and sections according to normal Plinth 2000 instructions for prone treatments.
- For prone positioning, ask the patient to place their face comfortably within the breathing slot so that the airway remains clear and the neck is supported in a neutral position.
- Use suitable couch covers or disposable paper rolls (with an appropriate cut-out) over the head section to maintain hygiene while preserving access to the breathing slot.
- Clean and disinfect the area around the breathing slot routinely according to local infection control policies and the upholstery manufacturer’s cleaning guidance.
- Inspect the stitched area and foam around the slot periodically for signs of wear or damage; if the upholstery becomes torn or compromised, arrange repair or re-upholstery through an approved service provider.
Contraindications
- Cannot generally be added to existing Plinth 2000 couches in the field; must be specified at the time of original couch order.
- Not suitable for couch models outside the applicable Plinth 2000 range that are not designed to accept a breathing slot option.
- Use with caution in patients who cannot safely tolerate prone positioning or who have conditions where prone lying is contraindicated, following clinical judgement.
- Do not use if the breathing slot or surrounding upholstery is significantly damaged or deformed, as this may compromise patient comfort and couch integrity.
Adverse Effects
- If incorrectly used or if the patient is positioned poorly, there may be discomfort in the neck or face during prone treatments.
- Damaged or worn upholstery around the breathing slot could cause minor skin irritation or discomfort and may be more difficult to clean effectively.
- Inadequate cleaning of the breathing slot area could contribute to cross-contamination, as with any couch surface used for direct patient contact.
Storage Conditions
- No special storage conditions beyond those for the Plinth 2000 couch as a whole.
- Keep the couch in a clean, dry clinical environment, away from direct heat sources and harsh chemicals that may damage upholstery.
- Use recommended cleaning agents compatible with the couch upholstery to maintain the breathing slot area in good condition.
- Avoid placing sharp instruments directly on or near the breathing slot to prevent cuts or tears in the upholstery.
