Inspection penlight / emergency torch

Description

The Coast A9R Rechargeable Inspection Penlight is a slim stainless steel penlight designed for close-up inspection work by technicians, medics and emergency professionals. Featuring COAST’s Inspection Beam optics, it produces a flawless, perfectly circular beam without dark spots, making detail work and equipment checks easier at short range. The A9R is powered by a rechargeable lithium polymer battery and is recharged by placing the supplied charging cap over the head of the light and plugging into any USB power source. Tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards, the penlight is impact resistant, weather resistant and uses a virtually unbreakable LED. It delivers up to 3 hours of runtime with a beam range of approximately 65 ft (20 m), in a compact 15.7 cm, 60 g stainless steel body backed by Coast’s 5-year warranty.

Indications

  • Close-range inspection lighting for technicians, engineers and mechanics
  • Emergency and first-aid lighting for paramedics and emergency medical services
  • General-purpose pocket torch for clinical staff, first responders and field workers
  • Detail work where a smooth, uniform inspection beam is preferred over a high-output spot
  • Hands-on maintenance and inspection tasks in low-light or confined spaces

Composition

  • Body: stainless steel cylindrical penlight housing
  • Optics: COAST Inspection Beam LED optic producing a uniform circular beam
  • Light source: white LED (virtually unbreakable solid-state emitter)
  • Battery: built-to-fit rechargeable lithium polymer battery pack
  • Switch: tailcap push-button on/off switch
  • Charging interface: COAST Pro-Flex charging cap with USB connector (USB-powered charging)
  • Pocket clip: removable metal clip for pocket or clipboard attachment
  • Seals and internal components designed for impact and weather resistance (tested to ANSI/FL1 and IPX-style water-resistance levels)

Formulation

  • Rechargeable LED penlight with fixed Inspection Beam (non-focusing, fixed beam pattern)
  • Single light mode (constant output for inspection work)
  • Approximate specifications from manufacturer and distributors:
  • • Beam distance: ~65 ft / 20 m
  • • Runtime: ~3 hours on a full charge
  • • Length: ~15.7 cm (approximately 6.2 in)
  • • Weight: ~60 g (approximately 2.1 oz)
  • Power system based on internal lithium polymer battery charged via external USB charging cap

Packaging

  • Supplied as a single Coast A9R Rechargeable Inspection Penlight (stainless steel finish)
  • Typically packaged with: Pro-Flex USB charging cap, rechargeable lithium polymer battery (pre-installed or included), and instructions (configuration may vary by distributor)
  • Retail packaging designed for protection in transit and display in store or online fulfilment

Usage

  • Charge the penlight fully before first use by placing the supplied charging cap over the head of the light and connecting the USB plug to a suitable USB power source (such as a computer USB port, USB wall adapter or USB car adapter).
  • Allow the light to charge until the indicator on the charging system (where present) or the recommended time in the user manual confirms a full charge.
  • To operate the light, press the tailcap push-button switch to turn the LED on and press again to turn it off.
  • Aim the penlight at the area being inspected; the Inspection Beam will provide an even, circular spot optimised for close-up work.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the internal battery pack; only use the supplied Coast charging accessories or compatible Coast-approved chargers.
  • If light output dims noticeably, recharge the penlight using the charging cap and USB connection.
  • Avoid directing the beam into eyes at close range; use appropriate caution when working around reflective surfaces.
  • Store the penlight switched off and in a cool, dry place when not in regular use. Recharge periodically if stored for extended periods to maintain battery health.

Contraindications

  • Not designed or approved as a medical diagnostic device; use only as a general-purpose inspection and utility light.
  • Avoid use in environments where intrinsically safe or explosion-proof lighting is specifically required, unless certified accordingly (the A9R is not marketed as intrinsically safe).
  • Do not use if the housing, lens or charging components are visibly damaged or if there are signs of battery leakage or overheating.
  • Do not immerse in water or expose to high-pressure water jets beyond the stated weather-resistant rating.

Adverse Effects

  • Direct eye exposure to the LED beam at close range may cause temporary visual discomfort or glare.
  • Improper charging (using damaged cables, unsuitable power sources or attempting to open/modify the battery) may present risk of overheating or battery damage.
  • Using the torch in unsafe environments (e.g. flammable atmospheres) contrary to its specifications may create additional hazards.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
  • Ensure the penlight is switched off before storage.
  • Avoid storing for prolonged periods in fully discharged condition; recharge periodically to maintain lithium polymer battery health.
  • Keep out of reach of children when not in supervised use.
