Pocket Torch / Inspection Penlight

Description

The Coast G9 LED Pocket Torch is a compact inspection flashlight designed for everyday carry and close-up work. It uses Coast’s Inspection Beam Optic to produce a perfectly circular, low-glare beam with crisp edges, ideal for illuminating small work areas, components, and keyholes without harsh hotspots. Powered by a single AAA alkaline battery, the G9 delivers approximately 54 lumens of output with a beam distance of around 22 m and a runtime of up to 2 hours 30 minutes. At about 10.4 cm in length and approximately 57 g including battery, it is light enough for constant pocket carry. A reversible two-way clip allows the torch to be worn on a pocket, belt or the bill of a hat for hands-free lighting. The light is operated by a simple twist of the end cap (twist on / twist off). With Coast’s impact-resistant, weather-resistant construction (IP54) and a virtually unbreakable LED, the G9 is positioned as a durable, low-cost professional inspection light backed by Coast’s long-term warranty and tested to ANSI/FL1 performance standards.

Composition

  • Durable body (commonly polymer or aluminium depending on regional variant) with black finish.
  • Integrated Coast Inspection Beam white LED optic module.
  • Twist-operated tail cap acting as on/off switch.
  • Reversible two-way metal pocket / hat clip.
  • Battery compartment designed for one AAA alkaline cell.
  • O-ring seals and construction providing IP54 weather and dust resistance.
  • Impact-resistant housing rated to withstand typical drops in industrial environments.

Formulation

  • Non-sterile, non-medicated LED inspection pocket torch powered by 1 × AAA alkaline battery with fixed Inspection Beam and twist end-cap switch.

Packaging

  • Coast G9 LED Pocket Torch (G9).
  • 1 × AAA alkaline battery (typically included and pre-fitted or supplied in pack).
  • Reversible two-way pocket / hat clip (fitted to torch).
  • Retail clamshell or blister pack with printed specifications and instructions.
  • Some distributor kits may include additional mounting or hard-hat clips depending on configuration.

Usage

  • Remove the torch from its packaging and inspect for any visible damage before first use.
  • Ensure a AAA alkaline battery is installed: unscrew the tail cap, insert the battery with the positive (+) terminal towards the head of the torch, then screw the tail cap back on firmly.
  • To switch the light on, twist the tail cap clockwise until the LED illuminates.
  • To switch the light off, twist the tail cap counterclockwise until the LED turns off.
  • Aim the inspection beam at the area you wish to illuminate, maintaining a safe distance from eyes and reflective surfaces.
  • Use the two-way clip to attach the torch to a pocket, belt or hat brim for hands-free operation when required.
  • Do not look directly into the beam at close range and avoid shining the light directly into other people’s eyes.
  • Replace the AAA battery when brightness noticeably diminishes or the light no longer turns on.
  • Always replace the battery with the same type and size (AAA alkaline) and avoid mixing old and new batteries.
  • For cleaning, wipe the exterior with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry thoroughly; do not immerse the torch in water or use aggressive solvents.
  • For extended periods of non-use, remove the battery to reduce the risk of leakage and corrosion in the battery compartment.

Contraindications

  • Not intended for use as an examination, diagnostic, or surgical light where regulated medical luminaires are required.
  • Not suitable for use in explosive or highly flammable atmospheres that require ATEX or other intrinsic safety certification.
  • Should not be used as a toy or unsupervised by young children due to small parts and battery ingestion risk.
  • Avoid direct, prolonged illumination into human or animal eyes at close distance.

Adverse Effects

  • Temporary visual discomfort, glare or after-images if the beam is directed into the eyes.
  • Potential headache or eye strain from prolonged close-range viewing of bright reflective surfaces.
  • Battery leakage from damaged, improperly stored or expired batteries may cause skin irritation and can damage the torch’s internal contacts.
  • In rare cases, localised warmth of the head of the torch during extended continuous operation may cause mild discomfort if held or pressed against the skin.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat sources.
  • Ensure the torch is switched off before storage and keep out of reach of small children.
  • For long-term storage, remove the AAA battery from the torch to minimise the risk of leakage and corrosion.
  • Avoid storing the torch in locations where it may be crushed, heavily impacted or immersed in liquids.
  • Keep batteries in their original packaging or a suitable container, away from conductive objects that could short-circuit them.

Duration

Not a medical treatment device. Typical continuous runtime on a fresh AAA alkaline battery is up to approximately 2 hours 30 minutes before output significantly reduces.

Onset

Provides immediate illumination as soon as the tail cap is twisted to the ON position.
