Head Torch / Headlamp
Description
The Coast HL8 Head Torch is a high-performance focusing LED headlamp designed as the workhorse of the Coast range. Using Coast's Pure Beam Focusing System with Twist Focus, it allows fast transition from an ultra-wide flood beam to a long-reaching spot beam with a clean transition halo. Delivering up to 615 lumens and a beam distance of up to 196 m, the HL8 runs on four AA alkaline batteries housed in a removable and extendable rear battery pack. A Light Output Control Dial on the side of the bezel provides high, medium and low brightness settings, enabling users to balance light output and runtime. With an aluminium bezel, robust construction, IPX4 weather resistance and impact-resistant design, the HL8 is suited to demanding professional and outdoor use. It includes adjustable head and over-the-top straps and is compatible with hard hats, and is tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards.
Bnefits
- High-output LED headlamp delivering up to 615 lumens for powerful illumination.
- Pure Beam Focusing System with Twist Focus for seamless transition between wide flood and long-range spot beam.
- Three brightness modes (high, medium, low) controlled via the Light Output Control Dial to optimise brightness and runtime.
- Long beam reach up to approximately 196 m on high for distance viewing.
- Extended runtimes up to approximately 64 hours on low using 4 x AA alkaline batteries.
- Removable and extendable rear battery pack with 3 ft extension cord for improved balance and helmet mounting.
- Aluminium bezel and impact-resistant construction for durability in rugged environments.
- IPX4 weather-resistant rating for use in rain and splashing conditions.
- Hard hat compatible with supplied mounting clips and adjustable head and over-the-top straps for a secure fit.
- Tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 flashlight performance standards for verified output and runtime.
Indications
- Hands-free lighting for emergency response, first aid and accident and emergency situations.
- Task illumination for industrial, construction, utilities, engineering and workshop environments.
- Use by paramedics, rescue teams, fire and law enforcement personnel where reliable, powerful head-mounted lighting is required.
- Outdoor activities such as hiking, caving, camping, hunting and night work where both flood and spot beams are beneficial.
- General-purpose professional or domestic use where extended runtime and variable output are advantageous.
Composition
- One high-power white LED light source integrated into a focusing optic.
- Aluminium front bezel with Coast Pure Beam Focusing optical system and Twist Focus mechanism.
- Impact-resistant polymer headlamp housing and rear battery pack.
- Removable rear battery pack designed for 4 x AA alkaline batteries, with hinged cover and retaining screw.
- Approximately 3 ft (around 1 m) battery extension cord to reposition the battery pack when required.
- Adjustable elastic headband with over-the-top strap, incorporating a protected Z-cord power lead.
- Hard-hat compatible clips for attaching the headlamp to safety helmets.
- Light Output Control Dial with integrated power switch on the side of the bezel.
Formulation
- Battery-powered focusing LED headlamp with Pure Beam Focusing System, Twist Focus bezel and adjustable multi-strap head mounting.
Packaging
- Coast HL8 Pure Beam Focusing LED Headlamp with aluminium bezel.
- Rear battery pack for 4 x AA alkaline batteries.
- 4 x AA alkaline batteries (included in standard retail packs).
- Adjustable elastic head and over-the-top straps with integrated Z-cord.
- Battery pack extension cord (approximately 3 ft).
- Hard hat mounting clips (where supplied by specific reseller packs).
- Printed user instructions, safety information and warranty details.
Usage
- Before first use, open the rear battery pack by loosening the retaining screw and hinge open the cover, then insert 4 x AA alkaline batteries as indicated by the polarity markings. Close the cover and retighten the screw.
- Place the head strap around the head or over a compatible safety helmet and adjust the head and over-the-top straps for a secure but comfortable fit.
- If desired, use the battery extension cord to position the battery pack on a belt or at the rear of a hard hat for improved weight distribution.
- To switch the headlamp on, press the power switch located in the centre of the Light Output Control Dial on the side of the bezel.
- Rotate the Light Output Control Dial to select the desired brightness level (high, medium or low) according to task and runtime requirements.
- Twist the front bezel to adjust the Pure Beam Focus between a broad flood beam and a focused spot beam with transition halo.
- Tilt the hinged lamp body up or down to direct the beam where illumination is needed.
- After use, switch the lamp off. For long-term storage, remove the batteries from the rear pack to reduce the risk of leakage.
- Keep the lens and bezel clean and free from heavy contamination; wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth if required. Do not immerse the headlamp in water.
- Do not shine the beam directly into eyes at close range and supervise use around children.
Contraindications
- Not intended for direct, prolonged illumination into human or animal eyes at close range.
- Not certified as intrinsically safe equipment and therefore unsuitable for use in explosive or highly flammable atmospheres where ATEX-rated equipment is required.
- Not a regulated medical device and should not be used as a substitute for approved medical examination or surgical lights where such equipment is mandated.
Adverse Effects
- Temporary glare, discomfort or after-images if the beam is directed into the eyes at short distance.
- Potential skin pressure or discomfort from overtightened head or helmet straps during extended wear.
- If batteries leak due to misuse or extended storage, there is a risk of chemical irritation on contact with skin or eyes.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight and excessive heat sources.
- Ensure the headlamp is switched off before storage and avoid storing with the switch depressed.
- For extended periods of non-use, remove AA batteries from the battery pack to minimise the risk of leakage and corrosion.
- Do not immerse the product in water during storage and keep away from corrosive or solvent vapours.
- Avoid dropping heavy objects onto the headlamp or battery pack while in storage to prevent mechanical damage.
Duration
Not a medical treatment device. Typical runtime per set of batteries is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes on high, around 6 hours on medium and up to about 64 hours on low.
Onset
Immediate illumination on activation of the power switch.
