Description

The Coast HL8R Rechargeable Head Torch is a high-performance focusing LED headlamp based on the HL8 platform but upgraded with a dedicated lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack and higher output. Delivering up to 800 lumens with Coast’s Pure Beam Focusing System and Twist Focus Technology, the HL8R allows the user to quickly switch between a super-wide flood beam and a long-reaching spot beam with a smooth transition halo. It provides high, medium and low output modes via a light control dial on the side of the lamp body, enabling precise control of brightness and runtime. The battery system offers dual power flexibility, allowing operation either from the supplied Li-ion pack (chargeable on or off the headlamp via micro USB) or from an alternative 4 × AA alkaline battery pack. With a beam distance of up to approximately 214 m, runtimes of around 4 hours 15 minutes on high and 62 hours on low, and a robust, weather- and impact-resistant construction, the HL8R is designed as a durable workhorse headlamp for demanding professional, industrial and outdoor applications, and is tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards and backed by Coast’s lifetime warranty against defects.

Usage

  • Open the battery compartment or connect the supplied lithium-ion battery pack as directed in the user manual before first use.
  • To use the rechargeable pack, ensure it is charged via the micro USB port using a suitable USB power source; the pack may typically be charged on or off the headlamp depending on configuration.
  • For alkaline operation, fit 4 × AA batteries into the appropriate battery pack, observing the polarity markings.
  • Place the headlamp strap around the head or a compatible safety helmet and adjust the straps for a secure, comfortable fit; use supplied clips for hard-hat mounting if included.
  • Press or rotate the power/light control dial (as per the product instructions) to switch the light on and to select high, medium or low output settings according to task requirements.
  • Twist the front bezel to transition between a wide flood beam and a focused spot beam with transition halo.
  • Tilt the lamp body using the hinged adjustment to direct the beam exactly where illumination is needed.
  • After use, switch the headlamp off. For prolonged periods of non-use, disconnect or remove batteries (especially alkaline cells) to reduce the risk of leakage.
  • Keep the lens and housing clean by wiping with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth; do not immerse the headlamp or charging components in water.
  • Avoid directing the beam into eyes at close range and supervise use around children.

Contraindications

  • Not intended for direct, prolonged illumination into human or animal eyes at close range.
  • Not certified as intrinsically safe equipment and therefore unsuitable for use in explosive or highly flammable atmospheres where ATEX or similar rated equipment is required.
  • Not a regulated medical device and should not be used as a replacement for approved clinical examination or surgical lighting where such equipment is required.

Adverse Effects

  • Temporary glare, discomfort or after-images may occur if the light is shone directly into the eyes at close distance.
  • Possible skin pressure or discomfort from excessively tightened head or helmet straps during extended wear.
  • If alkaline batteries leak due to age or misuse, contact with leaked electrolyte may cause skin or eye irritation and may damage the product.

Storage Conditions

  • Store the headlamp and its accessories in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
  • Ensure the light is switched off before storage and avoid placing heavy objects on top of the headlamp or battery packs.
  • For long-term storage, remove alkaline batteries from the battery pack to minimise the risk of leakage and corrosion.
