Description
The Coast HX5 Compact Focusing Torch is a small, pocket-sized LED flashlight that delivers up to 130 lumens and a beam distance of around 79 m when powered by a standard AA alkaline cell. Using Coast’s Pure Beam Focusing System with Slide Focus, the beam can be adjusted one-handed from a broad flood to a focused spot. The light supports multiple power options—standard AA alkaline (included), rechargeable NiMH AA or a rechargeable Li-ion 14500 cell. With a Li-ion 14500 battery the output increases to roughly three times the brightness of the alkaline configuration, providing significantly higher performance when needed. A distinctive two-way clip allows the light to be attached in either direction to pockets, belts or even the brim of a hat for hands-free use. The aluminium body is impact resistant and IPX4 weather resistant, and the virtually unbreakable LED is rated and tested to ANSI/FL1 standards. Usage
- Unscrew the tail cap and insert a suitable battery (AA alkaline included, or AA NiMH, or Li-ion 14500) observing the polarity markings, then replace and tighten the tail cap.
- Press the tail-cap switch fully to turn the torch on or off; some variants may offer additional modes (such as low or strobe) via partial presses according to the specific version’s instructions.
- With the light on, slide the head of the torch forwards or backwards to adjust the beam from a wide flood pattern to a focused spot.
- Use the two-way clip to secure the torch to a pocket, belt, strap or the brim of a hat to achieve hands-free operation when required.
- For close-up work, use the flood beam to reduce glare and provide a wider, more even field of illumination.
- Avoid directing the beam into eyes at close range, particularly when using a high-output Li-ion 14500 battery configuration.
- After use, switch the torch off. For extended periods of non-use, remove the battery—especially alkaline cells—to reduce the risk of leakage and corrosion.
