Fully motorised dual-column dialysis couch / renal treatment chair
Description
The Plinth 2000 Dialysis Couch - Fully Motorised - Blueberry is a premium dual-column dialysis and renal treatment chair designed for busy renal and oncology units. Its electric dual-column vertical lift minimises space requirements while providing fully motorised control of height, backrest and foot section angles, Trendelenburg tilt, and the position of the divided foot support board. Simple push-button controls offer electric profiling between chair and couch positions, including auto-CPR, recovery and return-to-chair presets. Built on Plinth Medical’s Platinum Model 94 platform with a safe working load of approximately 250 kg, extra-thick 70 mm comfort foam, hardwearing antimicrobial vinyl and large central locking castors, it delivers safe, stable and comfortable positioning for high-risk patients undergoing dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, plasmapheresis, oncology infusions and chemotherapy.
Bnefits

- Motorised adjustment of the divided foot support board allows comfortable leg support in both chair and couch modes.
- Auto-CPR, recovery and return-to-chair preset positions support rapid response in emergencies and efficient workflow.
- High safe working load (approximately 250 kg) accommodates a wide range of patient body weights safely.
- Extra-thick comfort foam and contoured, antimicrobial vinyl upholstery enhance patient comfort during long dialysis sessions.
- Battery backup facility on the Model 94 platform helps maintain essential positioning functions in the event of a mains power failure.
- Din rails and compatible accessories (IV pole, arm supports, oxygen bottle holder, wider upholstery etc.) allow comprehensive clinical configuration.
- Large central locking castors with steering facility and hoist clearance facilitate safe mobility, positioning and patient transfers.
- UK-designed and manufactured with lifetime frame guarantee and multi-year component warranty ensure long service life and low total cost of ownership.
Indications
- Haemodialysis treatment in hospital and satellite renal units.
- Peritoneal dialysis procedures requiring secure, adjustable patient positioning.
- Plasmapheresis and other apheresis procedures in renal or haematology units.

- Configured in Blueberry upholstery as standard for this specific product variant (other upholstery colours available on request from manufacturer).
- Delivered with integrated electric actuators, controls, castors and base shroud installed and tested.
- Compatible accessories (IV pole, arm supports, oxygen bottle holder, wider upholstery, foot board options) available as separately ordered items.
- Accompanied by operating instructions, warranty information and maintenance guidance from Plinth Medical.
Usage
- Install the couch in a suitable clinical area on a firm, level floor, ensuring sufficient clearance for staff access, hoist use and equipment such as dialysis machines and IV poles.
- Connect the couch to a suitable mains power supply as specified in the user manual and confirm that all electric functions (height, backrest, foot section, tilt and foot support board) operate correctly before clinical use.
- Use the push-button hand or foot control to adjust couch height and profile; bring the couch to a safe working height before transferring the patient and during procedures to reduce manual handling risks.
- Position the patient for dialysis or infusion by adjusting the backrest, foot section and Trendelenburg/reverse tilt as clinically indicated, ensuring the patient is stable and comfortable.
- Use the divided foot support board and any arm supports/IV poles to optimise limb support and vascular access while maintaining patient comfort over prolonged treatments.
- Familiarise clinical staff with the auto-CPR, recovery and return-to-chair preset buttons so that emergency positioning and post-procedure repositioning can be performed quickly and safely.
- When transferring using a hoist, take advantage of the hoist clearance under the base and follow local manual handling policies and hoist manufacturer instructions.
- Lock the central castors when the couch is in use; unlock and engage steering only when moving or repositioning the couch within the unit.
- Between patients, clean the upholstery and hand contact surfaces with approved detergents/disinfectants suitable for antimicrobial vinyl, following infection prevention and control protocols.
- Perform periodic inspection and servicing according to the manufacturer’s schedule, checking electrics, controls, castors, upholstery and fixings; arrange repairs or parts replacement promptly through Plinth Medical or authorised service agents.
Contraindications
- Do not use with patients whose weight exceeds the stated safe working load and lifting capacity (approximately 250 kg) of the couch.
- Do not operate the couch if there is visible damage to the frame, electric actuators, cabling, control handset, upholstery or castors.
- Not suitable for use in environments or zones that exceed the electrical and environmental classification specified by the manufacturer (for example specific theatre or wet-room classifications) unless formally approved.
- Patients with conditions in which Trendelenburg or steep tilt positions are contraindicated (e.g. certain cardiac, respiratory or intracranial pressure conditions) should only be tilted under medical advice.
- Use with caution in patients who cannot maintain stable seated or reclined positions without additional supports; ensure adequate side rails, straps or staff supervision are used if necessary.
Adverse Effects
- Incorrect use of tilt or profiling functions may lead to patient sliding, discomfort or, in extreme cases, falls if side rails or supports are not used appropriately.
- Failure to lock castors when the couch is in use may result in unintended movement, posing a risk of injury to patients or staff.
- Prolonged immobility on any couch without appropriate pressure care may contribute to discomfort or pressure-related skin breakdown, especially in high-risk patients.
- Electrical or mechanical failure during movement could cause sudden changes in position; adherence to regular servicing and pre-use checks reduces this risk.
- Inadequate cleaning and maintenance may compromise infection control and degrade upholstery, potentially increasing cross-contamination risk.
Storage Conditions
- Keep installed in a dry, indoor clinical environment away from direct water jets and excessive humidity.
- Avoid prolonged exposure of the upholstery to direct sunlight or strong heat sources that may cause fading, hardening or cracking of vinyl surfaces.
- Disconnect from mains power when the couch will not be used for extended periods and protect cables from crushing or tripping hazards.
- Do not store heavy objects on the couch or use it as a general storage platform when not in clinical use.
- Ensure the area under and around the base remains clear to maintain hoist access and prevent damage to castors and base shroud.
Duration
Not defined by the device; the couch is intended to support patients for the full duration of dialysis, plasmapheresis or infusion sessions as determined by clinical protocols, including prolonged use over several hours.
Onset
Not applicable; this product is a medical furniture and positioning device rather than a pharmacological treatment.
