Usage
- Position the couch on a firm, level surface and adjust the stabilising foot so that the frame is stable when the castors are retracted.
- Ensure the retractable castors are retracted and the couch is stable before a patient gets on or off the couch.
- Connect the mains lead to a suitable earthed power outlet, ensuring that cables are undamaged and routed to avoid trip hazards.
- Use the hand control (and optional footswitch, if fitted) to adjust couch height and Trendelenburg tilt with the patient already safely positioned.
- Adjust the backrest and foot section using the appropriate electric or gas-spring controls, supporting the section during movement and locking in the desired position.
- Use the Trendelenburg tilt and backrest functions to return the patient to a more horizontal or head-down recovery position if they feel faint or light-headed.
- Set and lock phlebotomy arms at appropriate height, angle and rotation before inserting or removing needles, confirming that all thumbwheels and clamps are tight.
- Adjust and lock gynaecology stirrups securely before use, ensuring the patient is safely and comfortably positioned.
- Clean the couch between patients using warm water and neutral detergent on a damp cloth, followed by a rinse with clean water and thorough drying.
- For decontamination, use a suitable dilute hypochlorite solution (for example up to 10,000 ppm available chlorine) according to local infection control policies, then rinse and dry and dispose of cleaning materials safely.
- Inspect upholstery regularly and replace any torn or damaged sections promptly to maintain infection control and safety.
- Carry out routine six-monthly checks of bolts, gas struts, moving parts and electrical leads, and arrange annual servicing by a qualified engineer as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Disconnect the power supply when the chair is not in use for extended periods or before carrying out cleaning, maintenance or moving the chair.
