Sterile hydrogel burn gel sachet
Description
CoolTherm Gel Sachet 4g is a sterile trauma hydrogel burn dressing supplied in a small single-use sachet. It combines a specially formulated cooling gel with the proven non-woven CoolTherm burn dressing technology to provide fast, effective first aid treatment for burns. The sachet delivers the sterile active gel directly to broken or unbroken skin, making it ideal for mild to moderate burns that may be awkward to dress. It may be used as a standalone topical gel for sunburn and minor burns, or to add extra gel to a severe burn where a CoolTherm dressing is already in place. The cooling gel soothes the burn, absorbs thermal energy, eases pain, helps prevent the burn from progressing and provides a protective barrier against contamination.

Usage
- Assess the burn and ensure the scene is safe; follow local first aid protocols (for example, remove the source of heat and cool the area with running water if appropriate and available, unless contraindicated).
- Open the CoolTherm Gel Sachet carefully, taking care not to touch the opening area that may come into contact with the wound.
- Apply the sterile burn gel directly from the sachet onto the affected area, covering the burn completely with a generous layer of gel.
- For more extensive burns, the sachet may be used to top up gel on a CoolTherm burn dressing already in place, by gently spreading additional gel over the dressing or exposed areas as directed.
- Once the burn has been covered with gel, a light, non-constrictive bandage or dressing may be applied over the area to hold the gel in place and protect the wound, if appropriate.
- Monitor the patient and check circulation, sensation and comfort regularly; seek medical attention promptly for anything more than a very minor burn, or if there are any concerns.
- Discard any unused gel remaining in the sachet after single use; do not attempt to reseal or reuse an opened sachet.
- Follow local guidelines and manufacturer recommendations for further burn management and for escalation to professional medical care.
Contraindications
- Do not use on patients known to be hypersensitive or allergic to any component of the CoolTherm gel (if known).
- Not intended for use on chemical burns without specialist guidance; follow specific chemical burn protocols.
- Do not apply to the eyes or on mucous membranes; specialist products or medical care are required for these areas.
- For extensive, deep, electrical or inhalation burns, or burns involving the face, hands, feet, perineum or major joints, seek urgent medical attention; CoolTherm gel sachets may only be used as an immediate first aid adjunct if recommended by local protocols.
Adverse Effects
- In normal use, adverse effects are rare; transient stinging or mild discomfort may occur when the gel is first applied to the burn.
- Local irritation or allergic reaction is possible in sensitised individuals; discontinue use if redness, rash, or worsening discomfort occurs and seek medical advice.
- If signs of infection develop in the burn (increasing pain, redness, swelling, discharge or systemic symptoms), seek medical assessment promptly.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry place at ambient room temperature.
- Protect from frost and excessive heat; avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures outside the range specified on the packaging.
- Keep sachets in their original packaging until use to maintain sterility.
- Observe the expiry date printed on the sachet or outer packaging; do not use after the expiry date.
- Keep out of the reach of children when not included in a supervised first aid kit.
Duration
Intended for immediate first aid application and short-term use on the burn until further medical assessment or definitive treatment is provided; each 4g sachet is for a single application only.
