Topical emollient gel
Description
Doublebase Gel is a licensed emollient gel for application to the skin to help treat dry or chapped skin conditions that may also be itchy, red and sore. It provides a long-lasting, highly emollient and protective hydrating base for regular first-line treatment and prophylaxis of dry or chapped skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis, elderly pruritus and other dermatitis-type conditions. The active ingredients (isopropyl myristate and liquid paraffin) help soften, moisturise and protect the skin by trapping moisture in the stratum corneum and restoring the skin’s normal protective function. The 500 g pump dispenser presentation is designed for frequent and convenient use.
Bnefits
- Long-lasting hydration and moisturisation of dry, chapped or itchy skin.
- Softens and protects skin by forming an occlusive barrier that traps moisture.
- Helps prevent skin-drying and irritation caused by washing, bathing or use of harsh soaps and cleansers.
- Suitable for all age groups including babies, children, adults and the elderly.
- Can be used as a soap substitute to reduce exposure to irritants and conserve skin moisture.
- Free from added soaps, SLS, parabens, colourings, or fragrances — better tolerated by sensitive skin.
- Steroid-free and can be used alongside other topical treatments as part of dry-skin management.
- Cosmetically acceptable (non-greasy feel despite high oil content), improving adherence to regular use.
Indications
- Dry or chapped skin that may be itchy, red or sore (e.g. dry skin flares).
- Chronic skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, ichthyosis and elderly dry skin/pruritus.
- Use as a protective, moisturising base in dry-skin management and prophylaxis.
- Can be used in addition to other topical treatments, or as a soap substitute to minimise skin irritation from washing.

- Isopropyl myristate 15% w/w (active emollient)
- Liquid paraffin 15% w/w (active emollient)

- Labelled with product name, active ingredients, usage instructions, batch number, expiry date and safety warnings.
Usage
- For external use only.
- Before use, unlock the pump dispenser by turning the top according to the arrow. Prime the pump if needed.
- Apply directly on dry or affected skin areas as often as necessary. Adults, children and infants can use it.
- Use a few gentle strokes to smooth the gel in the same direction as hair growth. Avoid vigorous rubbing.
- Apply after washing or bathing to lock in moisture; can also be used as a soap substitute.
- If used alongside other topical treatments, apply Doublebase Gel at a different time to avoid interference.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to isopropyl myristate, liquid paraffin or any of the other ingredients.
- Do not apply to acutely infected, oozing or severely inflamed skin lesions unless directed by a clinician.
- Keep away from naked flames or sources of ignition — product contains paraffin oils making fabrics more flammable.
- Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes; rinse thoroughly if accidental contact occurs. (Standard precaution)
Adverse Effects
- Rarely, mild skin irritation, redness or allergic reactions may occur, particularly on very sensitive skin — discontinue if this happens.
- If swallowed accidentally, oily ingredients may cause diarrhoea — treat symptomatically and seek medical advice if necessary.
- Increased fire risk if clothing, bedding or dressings impregnated with the gel come into contact with naked flames or cigarettes.
Storage Conditions
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
- Do not store above 25 °C.
- Do not freeze.
- After use of 500 g pump, lock the pump head (turn clockwise) to avoid accidental dispensing.
- Do not use after the expiry date (the expiry date refers to the last day of that month).
Duration
Suitable for long-term regular use; frequency depends on individual skin condition and need, often applied multiple times daily in dry or eczema-prone skin.
Onset
Soothing and moisturising effect usually seen soon after first application; overall improvement in skin dryness and protection typically seen with regular use over days to weeks.
