ECG Patient Cable
Description
The Welch Allyn Patient Cable PRO, X Long, banana, AHA coded is a reusable 10-lead ECG patient cable designed for use with Welch Allyn CardioPerfect PRO ECG recorders and compatible systems. It features an extra-long trunk cable and 4 mm banana plug terminations with standardized color coding for rapid and accurate lead placement. Intended for resting ECG acquisition in clinical environments, the cable connects the patient electrodes to the PRO ECG recorder, ensuring reliable signal transmission for diagnostic quality electrocardiograms.
Bnefits
- Extra-long trunk cable provides additional reach and flexibility around the examination couch or trolley
- 10-lead patient cable supports standard resting 12-lead ECG acquisition when used with appropriate electrodes
- 4 mm banana connectors ensure a secure mechanical and electrical connection to compatible electrodes
- Color-coded leads support correct lead placement and reduce risk of misconnection
- Designed specifically for Welch Allyn CardioPerfect PRO ECG recorders and associated systems for reliable compatibility
- Reusable construction for long-term use in clinical environments when properly maintained and cleaned
Indications
- Connection of ECG electrodes to Welch Allyn CardioPerfect PRO ECG recorders and compatible systems
- Acquisition of resting diagnostic ECGs in hospitals, clinics, and primary-care settings
- Use in adult and paediatric patients where a 10-lead ECG patient cable with banana connectors is specified
Composition
- 10-lead ECG patient cable with extra-long trunk segment
- 4 mm banana plug terminations for connection to compatible limb and precordial electrodes
- Insulated conductors within a flexible cable jacket (typically PVC or TPU, latex-free)
- Moulded strain-relief at connectors to reduce mechanical stress on the cable
Formulation
- Non-sterile, reusable ECG patient cable
- Electrical accessory for diagnostic ECG equipment (no medicinal or chemical formulation)
Packaging
- Supplied as a single 10-lead extra-long patient cable per pack
Usage
- Inspect the patient cable before each use; do not use if insulation, connectors, or strain-relief appear damaged.
- Insert the patient cable connector straight into the designated patient-cable port on the Welch Allyn PRO ECG recorder; push/pull only and avoid twisting.
- Connect each 4 mm banana lead to the appropriate limb or precordial electrode, following the printed color and label coding (AHA/IEC) and your local ECG lead-placement protocol.
- Ensure electrodes have good skin contact and that all leads are firmly seated before starting ECG acquisition.
- During recording, avoid pulling on the cable; secure the cable to reduce strain and patient tripping hazards.
- After use, disconnect the cable by grasping the connector housing (not the cable), remove from the recorder and electrodes, then clean and disinfect according to institutional and manufacturer guidelines.
- Store the cable loosely coiled in a dry, clean environment away from sharp edges, excessive heat, or direct sunlight.
Contraindications
- Do not use if the cable or connectors are visibly damaged, cracked, or if insulation is compromised.
- Do not use with non-compatible ECG systems that are not designed for this specific Welch Allyn PRO patient cable.
- Do not immerse the cable or connectors in liquids unless explicitly allowed by the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
- Do not use in the presence of flammable anaesthetics or explosive atmospheres in a way that conflicts with the safety specifications of the connected ECG system.
Adverse Effects
- When used as intended, no direct adverse physiological effects are expected from the cable itself.
- Improper use (e.g., damaged insulation, mis-connected leads) may lead to inaccurate ECG recordings or device error messages, which could delay diagnosis.
- Excessive cable tension or poor cable management may pose a minor trip or entanglement hazard.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry environment at typical room temperature.
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, excessive heat, or sources of mechanical stress.
- Do not store the cable tightly kinked or sharply bent; loosely coil to prevent internal conductor damage.
- Keep away from chemicals or solvents that could degrade the cable jacket or insulation.
