Description
The BD 2ml Syringe Complete with 23G x 1\ Needle (ref. 307740) is a sterile, single-use hypodermic syringe and needle combination intended for general injection and infusion procedures. The set comprises a 2 mL BD Emerald syringe with a clear, graduated polypropylene barrel, a polyethylene plunger and a latex-free stopper, supplied with a detachable 23G x 1\ stainless steel needle (BD Microlance-type) on a Luer slip concentric hub. The clear barrel and bold scale markings support accurate dosing, while the 23G needle provides a balance between flow and patient comfort for intramuscular and subcutaneous injections. Each unit is individually wrapped to maintain sterility and supplied in boxes of 100, making it suitable for hospitals, clinics, GP practices, vaccination services and aesthetic/dermatology practices.

Indications
- General intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) injections where a 2 mL syringe and 23G x 1" needle are clinically appropriate.
- Administration of vaccines, analgesics, antibiotics, hormones and other injectable medications according to prescribing guidance.
- Injections in primary care, hospital wards, outpatient clinics, occupational health and vaccination centres.
- Use in aesthetic and dermatology clinics for suitable injectable treatments where a 23G x 1" needle and 2 mL volume are appropriate.
- Drawing up and administering small volumes of fluids for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, in line with local protocols.
Composition
- Barrel: medical-grade transparent polypropylene, free from PVC and latex.
- Plunger: polyethylene plunger with elastomeric (synthetic rubber) stopper.
- Graduation: printed, bold scale markings on the barrel for 2 mL capacity.
- Needle: stainless steel hypodermic needle, 23G x 1" (0.6 mm x 25 mm), regular bevel.
- Needle hub: colour-coded hub (typically blue for 23G) with standard Luer connection.
- Tip type: Luer slip concentric tip on syringe.
- Sterility: supplied sterile for single use.
Formulation

Packaging
- Box of 100 sterile syringe-and-needle units.
- Each syringe with 23G x 1" needle is individually packaged (typically in blister or peel-open pouch) to maintain sterility.
- Outer carton labelled with product name, BD reference number (307740), quantity (100), lot number, expiry date and regulatory symbols.
- May be shipped in larger distribution cases containing multiple boxes for institutional supply.
Usage
- Check the outer carton and individual pack for integrity and expiry date; do not use if packaging is damaged or expired.
- Open the individual sterile pack immediately before use, maintaining aseptic technique.
- Attach the 23G x 1" needle securely to the Luer slip concentric tip of the syringe if not pre-attached, and ensure a firm connection.
- Draw up the prescribed medication into the 2 mL syringe, using the barrel graduations to measure the exact volume required and removing any visible air bubbles per local protocol.
- Prepare the injection site (e.g., cleanse skin and allow to dry) according to institutional infection-control procedures.
- Administer the injection using an appropriate IM or SC technique for the chosen site and patient, inserting the needle to the correct depth.
- Depress the plunger steadily to deliver the full dose, then withdraw the needle at the appropriate angle and apply local pressure or dressing as required.
- Do not recap the needle; immediately dispose of the entire used syringe and needle as a single unit into an approved sharps container.
- Do not reuse; this is a sterile, single-use syringe and needle combination.
- Follow all local, national and institutional guidelines for safe handling and disposal of sharps.
Contraindications
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to stainless steel or other syringe/needle materials.
- Not suitable for intrathecal, intraocular or other specialised routes of administration outside standard hypodermic use unless specifically authorised by protocol.
- Do not use if packaging is damaged, sterility is compromised or product is past its expiry date.
- Single-use only; reuse can increase risk of infection, needle dulling, device failure and patient or clinician harm.
Adverse Effects
- Local pain, redness, bruising or swelling at the injection site.
- Bleeding or haematoma formation at or around the injection site.
- Infection at the injection site if aseptic technique is not followed.
- Tissue trauma or nerve injury if improper injection technique or site is used.
- Rare allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to device materials in susceptible individuals.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry environment at controlled room temperature as indicated on the packaging.
- Keep away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture and freezing conditions.
- Maintain syringes in their original cartons until use to protect from contamination and physical damage.
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
- Store out of reach of children and unauthorised persons, in accordance with local regulations for medical devices.
