Description

KleenSpec® Disposable Vaginal Specula (Medium, box of 24) are premium single-use acrylic specula from Welch Allyn designed to eliminate the time and cost of reprocessing metal specula and to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Manufactured from clear, smooth acrylic, they provide complete visualization of the vaginal canal and are compatible with the Welch Allyn KleenSpec Illumination System or an external light source. The medium size Pederson-style speculum features a wide, ergonomic handle for improved balance and easier manipulation, and a strong yet flexible yoke and grip for reliable performance in routine gynaecological examinations.

Usage

For professional use only by trained healthcare providers (e.g. doctors, nurses, midwives).
Select the appropriate size speculum (medium Pederson) according to patient anatomy and clinical need.
If using with the KleenSpec Illumination System, attach the compatible light source to the speculum according to the light system’s instructions.
Position the patient in the appropriate examination position (usually lithotomy) and follow standard gynaecological examination procedure.
Gently insert the closed speculum into the vaginal canal and open the blades to the required width using the handle and yoke mechanism, then lock in place as needed.
After completing the examination or procedure, unlock and gently close the blades before carefully withdrawing the speculum.
Dispose of the used speculum immediately in an appropriate clinical waste container; do not attempt to clean or reuse.
Follow local infection-prevention and control policies and standard precautions at all times.

Contraindications

Do not use in patients where speculum examination is contraindicated (e.g. certain acute pelvic injuries, unexplained heavy bleeding or suspected perforation) unless specifically directed by a clinician.
Use with caution in patients with severe vaginal atrophy, stenosis or significant pain; consider alternative sizes or techniques as clinically appropriate.
Do not use if the speculum or packaging appears damaged, cracked or contaminated before use.

Adverse Effects

As with all speculum examinations, patients may experience temporary discomfort or pressure during insertion and opening.
In rare cases, minor vaginal wall abrasions or bleeding may occur, particularly in patients with fragile mucosa.
Improper technique or excessive force may increase the risk of pain, tissue trauma or patient distress.

Storage Conditions

Store in a clean, dry environment at room temperature.
Keep in original packaging until use to protect from dust and contamination.
Avoid excessive heat, direct sunlight or mechanical damage that may weaken or deform the acrylic.
Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised persons.
