Usage

For professional use only under the direction of an appropriately qualified prescriber or healthcare practitioner.
Inspect each vial before use; do not use if the vial is damaged, if the solution is discoloured, cloudy or contains visible particles.
Use aseptic technique when handling vials and withdrawing solution.
When used for reconstitution, withdraw the required volume of sodium chloride 0.9% with a sterile syringe and needle, then add to the medicinal product vial as per that product’s instructions for reconstitution.
Gently mix until the dissolved product is fully reconstituted, avoiding vigorous shaking where not recommended by the product manufacturer.
For flushing or cleansing, use in accordance with local clinical protocols and professional guidance.
Intended for single use; discard any unused solution after first opening and do not reuse partially used vials.
Dispose of used vials, syringes and needles as clinical sharps waste according to local regulations.

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity or allergy to sodium chloride or any component of the solution.
Use with caution, and only under medical supervision, in patients where sodium or fluid overload may pose a risk (e.g. severe heart failure, severe renal impairment, clinically significant oedema or hypernatraemia).
Do not use if the solution is discoloured, cloudy, contains particulate matter or if the vial integrity is compromised.

Adverse Effects

When used appropriately in small volumes for reconstitution or flushing, adverse effects are uncommon.
Potential for local injection-site reactions (pain, irritation, redness or swelling) depending on the co-administered product and technique.
Large or inappropriate systemic administration of sodium chloride 0.9% may contribute to fluid overload, electrolyte imbalance (e.g. hypernatraemia) or exacerbation of pre-existing cardiac or renal conditions; such use should only occur under medical supervision.
Any adverse effects related to the medicinal product being reconstituted must also be considered and monitored.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature (commonly below 25–30°C) in accordance with general storage recommendations for sterile injectable solutions, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
Keep vials in the original outer carton until use to protect from light and contamination.
Do not freeze.
Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
Once opened, use immediately and discard any unused portion; do not store partially used vials.
