Airway suction catheter

Description

Single‑use sterile suction catheter (8 French, 60 cm) with Vacutip connector, intended for removal of respiratory secretions from the airway (oral, nasopharyngeal, tracheal or bronchial) by connection to a vacuum source. Designed for airway clearance to maintain ventilation and prevent obstruction due to secretions. Made of medical‑grade soft PVC, latex‑free and DEHP‑free.

Indications

  • Removal of secretions from oropharynx, trachea, and bronchial airways
  • Airway maintenance in patients requiring suctioning (e.g. ventilated or tracheostomy patients)
  • Emergency airway clearance to prevent aspiration or obstruction

Composition

  • Medical‑grade soft polyvinyl chloride (PVC), DEHP‑free, latex‑free

Formulation

  • Flexible, smooth-wall PVC suction catheter

Packaging

  • Individually sterile packed (single‑use)
  • Vacutip connector end with universal fitting

Usage

  • Single‑use only; discard immediately after use
  • Attach proximal connector to vacuum source via tubing and suction canister jar
  • Advance catheter gently into airway; withdraw secretions under negative pressure
  • Do not reuse or re‑sterilize
  • Inspect packaging — do not use if package is damaged or opened

Contraindications

  • Allergy to PVC or components of the catheter
  • Use in patients with uncorrected coagulopathy or risk of bleeding (unless clinically justified)
  • Not for repeated reuse — single‑use only

Adverse Effects

  • Potential mucosal irritation, trauma or bleeding if inserted roughly
  • Risk of infection if sterility compromised or reused
  • Hypoxia or airway irritation if suctioning prolonged or excessive negative pressure applied

Storage Conditions

  • Store in cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Keep in original sealed packaging until use
