Hanging door safety barrier sign
Description
The Robert Scott Hanging Door Safety Sign - 'Closed For Cleaning' (item no. 101442) is a telescopic, spring-loaded bar with a bright yellow hanging warning sign designed to prevent entry to areas while cleaning is in progress. It fits standard doorways from 70–95 cm wide and measures approximately 105 cm at full width and 70 cm when closed. Manufactured from flexible, hardwearing materials with rubber end caps, the sign forms a visible barrier across the doorway, rolls up for compact storage when not in use, and can also be adapted as a general 'Closed' sign by folding the lower section and securing it with studs.
Bnefits
- Creates a clear, physical and visual barrier to prevent unwanted entry during cleaning operations
- Spring-loaded, telescopic bar quickly fits doorways from approximately 70–95 cm wide
- Bright yellow, eye-catching sign with clear 'Closed For Cleaning' message enhances safety compliance
- Made from flexible, hardwearing materials for long life and repeated use
- Rubber end caps protect door frames and improve grip
- Sign simply rolls up and packs away for easy, space-saving storage
- Dual-message design allows 'For cleaning' text to be hidden so it can be used as a general 'Closed' sign
- Suitable for a wide variety of public and workplace environments, including hospitals, clinics, hotels, offices, schools and retail spaces
Indications
- Temporary closure of toilets, washrooms and other rooms during cleaning to prevent entry
- Use in hospitals, clinics and healthcare facilities as part of infection prevention and control measures
- Use in public areas such as airports, stations, retail outlets, hotels, offices, education facilities and factories while cleaning is in progress
- General door barrier to indicate an area is closed or temporarily unavailable
Composition
- Spring-loaded telescopic bar (70–95 cm) forming the main support across the doorway
- Flexible, hardwearing plastic or similar synthetic material for the hanging sign panel
- Bright yellow sign with high-contrast printed 'Closed For Cleaning' text and graphics
- Rubber end caps at each end of the bar to protect door frames and provide grip
- Fasteners/studs on the sign to allow the lower section to be folded and secured when used as a general 'Closed' sign
Formulation
- Non-sterile, reusable, mechanical safety sign and barrier for doorways
- Spring-loaded, telescopic bar with integrated hanging sign
Packaging
- Single hanging door safety sign with telescopic bar and integrated 'Closed For Cleaning' sign (Medisave retail unit)
- Typically supplied as one unit per outer retail/wholesale pack when sold individually
- Manufacturer case configuration commonly listed as box/pack of 4 signs in Robert Scott trade literature (code 101442, size 70–95 cm)
Usage
- Ensure the doorway width is within the recommended range of approximately 70–95 cm.
- Hold the sign by the bar and compress the spring-loaded telescopic section so that the rubber end caps can be positioned between the door frame uprights.
- Position the bar at the desired height across the doorway (typically around waist or chest height) and release so that the spring pressure holds the bar firmly against the door frame using the rubber caps.
- Check that the sign hangs freely and that the 'Closed For Cleaning' message is clearly visible to people approaching the doorway.
- For general 'Closed' use, fold the lower section of the sign to hide the 'For cleaning' wording and secure it with the studs as described in the manufacturer’s instructions.
- After cleaning is complete or the area is reopened, compress the bar to remove it from the doorway.
- Roll up the flexible sign and bar assembly as demonstrated in product literature and store in a suitable, dry location until next use.
- Inspect regularly for signs of wear or damage to the bar, sign panel or rubber end caps and replace the unit if any components are compromised.
Contraindications
- Not suitable for doorways outside the recommended width range of approximately 70–95 cm.
- Should not be used as a load-bearing or safety restraint device; it is intended only as a visual and light physical barrier.
- Do not use if the spring mechanism, bar, sign or rubber end caps are damaged or excessively worn, as this may prevent secure fitting or clear visibility.
- Not designed for use in environments where more robust physical barriers or regulatory safety systems are required (e.g. construction exclusion zones).
Adverse Effects
- If incorrectly fitted, the bar may become dislodged, potentially causing minor impact or trip hazards.
- Improper placement may reduce visibility of the sign and lead to ineffective warning or confusion.
- Worn or damaged rubber end caps may reduce grip and increase the risk of the sign slipping from the doorway.
Storage Conditions
- Roll up the sign and store in a clean, dry area when not in use.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or high heat, which may cause fading or degradation of materials.
- Do not place heavy objects on top of the stored sign to avoid deforming the bar or damaging the sign panel.
- Keep away from sharp objects or chemicals that could cut, tear or degrade the flexible sign material or rubber end caps.
Duration
Used only for the duration of cleaning or temporary closure; the sign is removed once the area is safe and ready for normal use.
Onset
Immediate; once the bar is in place and the sign is visible across the doorway, it acts as a physical and visual barrier to indicate closure.
