Reusable hot and cold gel pack
Description
The Hot & Cold Pack Luxury Reusable is a soft, flexible gel pack designed to provide either cold or hot therapy for minor injuries and muscular discomfort. Commonly supplied under the Koolpak luxury reusable hot & cold range, it moulds comfortably to the body to deliver targeted relief. It can be cooled in a refrigerator or freezer to help reduce swelling and inflammation or heated in a microwave to relieve muscular aches, stiffness and joint pain. The robust, sealed pack is reusable and easily wiped clean, making it a cost-effective option for clinics, sports settings and home first-aid use.
Bnefits
- Versatile: can be used cold to reduce swelling and inflammation or hot to relieve muscular aches, stiffness and discomfort.
- Soft, flexible construction moulds to the body for comfortable, targeted therapy over joints and soft tissue injuries.
- Reusable design provides a cost-effective alternative to single-use cold packs.
- Maintains therapeutic temperature for an extended period compared with standard reusable packs (typically up to 20–30 minutes; some suppliers note up to 2 hours at room temperature after cooling).
- Suitable for use from the fridge, freezer or microwave, following the manufacturer’s heating and cooling guidelines.
- Easily wiped clean between uses, supporting good hygiene in clinics, sports clubs and workplaces.
- Compact size makes it ideal for small areas such as ankles, wrists, elbows or localized muscle groups.
- Useful in first aid kits for sprains, strains, knocks, minor sports injuries and general aches and pains.
Indications
- Cold therapy for acute soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains and bruises to help reduce pain and swelling.

- Hot therapy for muscular aches, stiffness and chronic joint discomfort where heat is indicated.
- Symptomatic relief of minor musculoskeletal pain after exercise or physical activity.
- Use in first aid settings, sports medicine, physiotherapy and home care for local hot/cold treatment.

- Approximate weight: 200–250 g depending on variant (many Sure Thermal / Koolpak luxury packs list 250 g).
- Typical dimensions (small luxury pack): approximately 13 x 14 cm or similar compact size suitable for localized treatment.
Formulation
- Non-toxic, water-based gel formulation for external use only.
- Reusable gel that can be cooled in a refrigerator or freezer or heated in a microwave according to instructions.
- Pack remains flexible at low temperatures to conform to the treatment area.
- Designed for multiple cycles of heating and cooling when used as directed.
Packaging
- Single reusable hot & cold gel pack sealed in a printed or clear plastic pouch.
- Often supplied with basic printed usage and safety instructions on the outer packaging or on an insert.
- Sold individually for use in first aid kits, clinics, sports teams and home care.
- Some suppliers offer multipacks or case quantities, but the Medisave listing price relates to a single pack.
Usage
- For cold use: place the pack in a refrigerator or freezer until it reaches the desired cold temperature (typically at least 2 hours in a domestic freezer for full effect).
- For hot use: heat the pack in a microwave according to the power and time guidelines provided by the manufacturer (commonly short bursts of 10–20 seconds, checking between cycles) or immerse in hot (not boiling) water for the recommended time.
- Always knead the pack gently after heating to distribute heat evenly and check temperature before application.
- Wrap the pack in a cloth, towel or protective sleeve before applying to the skin; do not apply directly to bare skin to avoid risk of cold or heat burns.
- Apply to the affected area for approximately 15–20 minutes at a time, then remove and allow the skin to return to normal temperature before re-applying.
- Monitor the skin regularly during treatment for signs of excessive redness, blistering or numbness; discontinue use if these occur.
- Do not puncture the pack; if damaged or leaking, discard and replace.
- Clean the outer surface of the pack with a mild detergent solution or disinfectant wipe and dry thoroughly before returning it to storage or re-freezing.
- Keep out of reach of children and use under adult supervision, particularly when heating the pack or using on children or vulnerable adults.
Contraindications
- Do not apply directly to broken or compromised skin (e.g., open wounds, dermatitis) unless directed by a healthcare professional.
- Use with caution or avoid on areas of impaired sensation or circulation, such as in patients with peripheral neuropathy, diabetes or vascular disease, due to increased risk of cold or heat injury.
- Not recommended for individuals with known sensitivity to extreme cold or heat, or those with conditions where cold or heat therapy is contraindicated (e.g., certain circulatory disorders).
- Do not use on infants or very young children without specific medical advice and close supervision.
- Do not ingest the contents of the pack; if the pack leaks and gel is swallowed or comes into contact with eyes, seek medical advice and rinse thoroughly with water.
Adverse Effects
- Improper use (e.g., applying the pack directly to the skin without a cloth barrier or for excessive durations) may cause cold burns, frostbite-like injury, or heat burns.
- Prolonged application can lead to skin irritation, redness or numbness in the treated area.
- Rare allergic or sensitivity reactions to materials in the gel or outer pack may occur in susceptible individuals.
- If severe pain, persistent erythema, blistering or any unexpected reaction occurs, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature when not in use, or keep in a refrigerator/freezer if regularly used for cold therapy, following manufacturer guidance.
- Avoid storing near sharp objects that could puncture the pack.
- Do not expose to direct sunlight or high temperatures for prolonged periods when not in use, as this may degrade the outer material or gel.
- Ensure the pack is completely dry before returning it to the freezer to prevent it sticking to other items or freezer surfaces.
- Keep out of the reach of children when stored in a freezer or medicine cabinet.
Duration
Typically applied for 15\u201320 minutes per session; treatment may be repeated several times per day as needed, allowing the skin to return to normal temperature between applications.
Onset
Cooling or warming sensation and symptomatic relief generally begin within minutes of application once the pack is at the appropriate temperature.
