The Clinell Easyclean Commode (Easy Clean Commode) is an award-winning, infection-prevention commode chair designed for use in hospitals, care homes and other clinical environments. Marketed as the UK’s number one infection prevention commode, it features a unique ultra-hygienic design that can be dismantled quickly into only a small number of parts for thorough cleaning. The seat, backrest and other patient-contact components are made from smooth, durable, non-porous plastic, allowing easy wiping and minimising areas where dirt and microorganisms can accumulate. The frame is constructed from high-grade 316L stainless steel with an advanced electrochemical anti-oxidation coating for superior corrosion resistance, strength and longevity. Usage
- Assemble the commode according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring all components (frame, seat, armrests, footrests, castors and bedpan rack) are correctly fitted and secure.
- Before first use and between patients, clean and disinfect all plastic and metal surfaces with appropriate detergent and disinfectant products in line with local infection-prevention policies.
- Apply brakes on the castors before assisting the patient onto or off the commode to ensure stability.
- Use the hinged armrests and footrests to assist safe patient transfers; ensure arms are locked in the down position during use.
- Insert the appropriate pulp or plastic bedpan into the removable bedpan rack, or position the commode over a toilet as required.
- When used as a shower chair, ensure castors are locked during transfer and unlocked as needed for safe manoeuvring, following local safety procedures.
- After each use, remove the bedpan and dispose of contents according to clinical waste protocols, then clean and disinfect the commode thoroughly, including frame, seat, armrests, footrests and castors.
- Periodically inspect the frame, castors and plastic components for signs of wear, damage or corrosion and remove from service if any safety issues are identified.
- Only trained staff should assemble, dismantle, move and use the commode with patients, following local manual-handling and infection-control guidelines.
Contraindications
- Not suitable for use with patients whose weight exceeds the stated maximum user weight (approximately 190 kg / 30 st).
- Should not be used on steep ramps, uneven floors or surfaces where the castors cannot be safely locked.
- Not intended for use without appropriate supervision for patients who are at high risk of falls or who cannot sit safely without additional restraints or support, unless risk-assessed and managed by clinical staff.
- Do not use if any structural parts (frame, castors, armrests, footrests, seat or bedpan rack) are damaged, missing or not securely fitted.
