Cleaning status indicator notes

Description

Clinell Paper-based Indicator Notes - 4 x 250 Notes (CCIN1000GS) are clear, highly visible, self-adhesive notes designed to show at a glance whether a room, surface or piece of equipment has been cleaned. Part of the Clinell Clean Indicator range and developed in conjunction with Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust Infection Control Department, the green \I am clean\ notes are completed, signed and dated after local decontamination has taken place, providing visible assurance that an item is ready for reuse. The new paper-based design is more sustainable and recyclable than the original plastic notes, while retaining the same trusted performance, low-residue adhesive and order codes. Supplied as 4 pads of 250 notes (1,000 total), they help healthcare organisations implement effective hygiene procedures and conform to UK Department of Health High Impact Interventions No. 8.

Bnefits

  • Provides a clear, highly visible indication that a room, surface or item of equipment has been cleaned and is ready for use.
  • Eye-catching green design with simple "I am clean" messaging allows staff to assess cleaning status at a glance.
  • Paper-based construction improves sustainability and recyclability compared with plastic-based notes, while maintaining the same order codes and usage.
  • Developed in conjunction with Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust Infection Control Department, supporting evidence-based infection prevention practice.
  • Supports compliance with UK Department of Health High Impact Interventions No. 8 relating to environmental cleanliness and decontamination of equipment.
  • Includes dedicated areas to record date, time and the name or initials of the person who performed the cleaning, improving traceability and accountability.
  • Low-residue adhesive backing sticks securely to a wide range of equipment and surfaces yet peels away cleanly without significant residue under normal use.
  • Eye-catching, easy-to-read format helps reduce duplication of work by clearly indicating items that have already been cleaned.
  • Flexible and widely applicable; suitable for reusable and mobile patient contact equipment, rooms and other clinical areas.
  • Supplied as 4 pads of 250 notes (1,000 in total), providing an economical and convenient stock for wards and departments.

Indications

  • Marking reusable patient-contact equipment such as commodes, hoists, weighing scales, IV drip stands and trolleys as cleaned after decontamination.
  • Indicating the cleaning status of beds, couches, examination/treatment trolleys and other furniture in wards, clinics and treatment rooms.
  • Labelling rooms, bays and bed spaces as clean following terminal or turnaround cleaning.
  • Use in aesthetic and dermatology clinics to mark couches, trolleys, laser chairs and other reusable equipment as cleaned between patients.
  • Supporting infection-control audits and quality-improvement initiatives by providing a simple visual record of when and by whom cleaning was performed.
  • Use on other reusable/mobile items such as emergency trolleys, ultrasound machines, blood glucose monitors, syringe drivers and similar devices where visual confirmation of cleaning is required.

Composition

  • Paper note substrate printed with green Clinell Clean Indicator design and fields for date, time and staff initials/signature.
  • Pressure-sensitive, low-residue adhesive backing designed to adhere to smooth, non-porous equipment and room surfaces.
  • Inks and coatings formulated for legibility and durability under normal clinical handling conditions.
  • Non-sterile, latex-free construction suitable for use across a range of clinical environments.

Formulation

  • Non-sterile, paper-based self-adhesive indicator notes.
  • Single-use labels intended solely as visual indicators of cleaning status.
  • Green "I am clean" colourway signifying that an item or area has been cleaned and is ready for reuse.
  • Paper-based format designed to reduce plastic usage while retaining performance and existing product codes.

Packaging

  • Box containing 4 pads of 250 notes (1,000 notes in total).
  • Each pad comprises a stack of paper-based self-adhesive indicator notes, typically bound along one edge for easy dispensing.
  • Outer carton printed with Clinell branding, product description, colour (green), quantity (4 x 250 notes), SKU and manufacturer details.
  • Packaging designed for easy storage on wards, in domestic services or at cleaning stations alongside associated indicator tapes and cleaning products.

Usage

  • Clean and disinfect the room, surface or piece of equipment according to local infection-prevention protocols, using appropriate cleaning and disinfectant products.
  • Ensure the surface where the note will be applied is dry and free from visible residue to maximise adhesion.
  • Remove a single indicator note from the pad.
  • On the front of the note, tick or mark the "I am clean" (or equivalent) box to confirm that decontamination has been completed.
  • Complete the date, time and your name or initials in the spaces provided to create a clear record of who cleaned the item and when.
  • Peel the note from its backing (if applicable) and apply it firmly to a clean, dry, visible area of the equipment or surface, ensuring good contact across the adhesive area.
  • Position the note so that it is clearly visible to staff but does not interfere with the safe operation or adjustment of the equipment.
  • When the item or area is due to be re-cleaned, remove and discard the old note and replace it with a new one after the next cleaning cycle.
  • Do not reuse notes; they are designed as single-use indicators.
  • Dispose of used notes as general or clinical waste according to local policy.

Contraindications

  • Not a disinfectant or cleaning product and must not be used as a substitute for appropriate cleaning and disinfection procedures.
  • Not intended for application to skin, mucous membranes or wounds.
  • Use with caution on delicate, newly painted, polished or sensitive surfaces where adhesives may mark, lift or damage finishes; test on a small inconspicuous area if unsure.
  • Not suitable for use on very rough, wet, oily or heavily textured surfaces where adhesion may be poor.
  • Not to be used as a tamper-evident label or for applications where regulated labelling standards (e.g. for medications or medical devices) are required.

Adverse Effects

  • In normal use, adverse effects are minimal; however, adhesive residue may occasionally remain on some surfaces and require additional cleaning.
  • On certain delicate or poorly compatible surfaces, removal of the note may cause minor marking, surface dulling or lifting of coatings or paint.
  • Prolonged direct skin contact with the adhesive may cause mild irritation in susceptible individuals; the notes are not intended to be worn on skin.
  • Small notes may present a choking hazard if handled by young children; they should be kept out of reach of children.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading of print and degradation of adhesive.
  • Keep in the original box or a protective container when not in use to protect pads from dust, moisture and physical damage.
  • Avoid exposure to excessive heat, humidity or cleaning chemicals which may affect adhesion or legibility.
  • Store out of reach of children and unauthorised persons, in line with local governance for infection-prevention consumables.

Duration

Not a medical treatment; each note remains in place until the next cleaning cycle, or until it becomes damaged or illegible. A new note should be applied after each subsequent cleaning or decontamination episode.

Onset

Provides an immediate visual indication of cleaning status as soon as the note is completed, signed and applied to the cleaned item or area.
