Description

Injekt® 5ml Luer Lock Solo is a hypodermic 2-piece single-use syringe from B. Braun, supplied without a needle and equipped with a Luer lock connector. It is designed for aspiration and injection of fluids via clinically intended access routes (including intravascular, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intracutaneous, intrathecal, intranasal, enteral, intraurethral, intravaginal, joint and soft tissue injections), as well as for admixture of drugs to infusion solutions and extraction of body fluids and tissue by aspiration. The transparent polypropylene barrel with high-contrast black graduation and green polyethylene plunger enables precise, easily readable dosing. A safe plunger backstop helps prevent accidental plunger withdrawal and loss of liquid. The syringe is not manufactured with silicone oil, PVC, Bisphenol A (BPA), DEHP or latex and is manufactured according to ISO 7886-1.

Indications

Aspiration and injection of fluids in combination with adequate medical devices via clinically intended access routes, including intravascular, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intracutaneous, intrathecal, intranasal, enteral, intraurethral, intravaginal, joint and soft tissue injections.
Admixture of drugs to infusion solutions according to the Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) of the medication, in combination with appropriate medical devices.
Extraction of body fluids and tissue via aspiration together with adequate medical devices (e.g. needles, catheters, drainage systems).
Use as part of infusion therapy, injection therapy, nutrition therapy and procedures for obtaining body fluids and tissue where 2-piece syringes are prescribed.
Use across all age groups, including adults, paediatrics and neonates, with no gender-related limitations.

Formulation

2-piece hypodermic syringe (barrel and plunger, without separate rubber piston component) with Luer lock connector.
Nominal volume 5 ml with total graduated capacity up to approximately 6 ml (typical for Injekt 5 ml syringes).

Packaging

Pack size: Box of 100 Injekt® 5ml Luer Lock Solo syringes.
Each syringe is individually sterile wrapped in peel-open packaging for aseptic presentation.
Outer carton labelled with product name, brand (B. Braun), reference/SKU (4606710V), lot number and expiry date.
Single-use packaging intended for disposal after one use per syringe.

Usage

Check the integrity of the sterile packaging and confirm product, volume (5 ml), connector type (Luer lock) and expiry date before use.
Open the individual sterile pack using aseptic technique and remove the syringe.
If required, attach an appropriate sterile needle, catheter, connector or device to the Luer lock tip and ensure it is securely fastened.
For aspiration: pull back the plunger smoothly to draw the required volume of fluid or medication into the barrel, observing the graduation marks for accurate dosing.
For injection: expel air bubbles by tapping the barrel and gently advancing the plunger until liquid appears at the needle tip or connector, then administer the injection according to clinical protocol and route (e.g. intravascular, intramuscular, subcutaneous).
For admixture of drugs: draw up the medication and inject into the infusion container or line in accordance with the SPC of the medication and institutional procedures, using appropriate aseptic technique.
For extraction of body fluids or tissue: use in combination with suitable needles or devices, aspirating gently to avoid tissue trauma while obtaining sufficient sample volume.
Do not exceed the graduation limits of the barrel; never attempt to force the plunger beyond the backstop.
After use, safely engage any needle safety mechanism if present, disconnect from the patient or system, and dispose of the syringe (and attached needle) in an approved sharps container.
Do not reuse or resterilise; the syringe is designed for single use only and should be used immediately after filling.

Contraindications

Do not use if the sterile packaging is damaged, opened or otherwise compromised.
Do not reuse or resterilise; reuse may increase the risk of infection, cross-contamination or device malfunction.
Do not use in combination with fluids or medications that are incompatible with polypropylene or polyethylene if such incompatibility is known.
Use with caution in procedures where 3-piece syringes with finer control or specific connectors are required; follow institutional guidelines on syringe selection.
Not intended for long-term storage of pharmaceuticals within the syringe; use immediately after preparation according to manufacturer and institutional recommendations.

Adverse Effects

The syringe itself has no pharmacological effect; potential adverse effects are associated with the procedure or medication (e.g. pain, infection, tissue damage, allergic reactions).
Improper use (e.g. failure to expel air, incorrect route of administration, mis-dosing) may result in complications such as air embolism, extravasation or incorrect dosing.
Use of damaged or non-sterile syringes increases the risk of infection or pyrogenic reactions.
Inadequate securing of the Luer lock connection may lead to leakage or disconnection during use, potentially compromising therapy.

Storage Conditions

Store in the original packaging in a clean, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture.
Keep within the temperature range specified on the packaging (typically room temperature); avoid excessive heat or freezing conditions.
Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
Protect cartons and inner sterile packs from crushing or mechanical damage.
Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised persons in accordance with institutional storage procedures for medical devices.

Duration

Not directly applicable; the syringe is a single-use device used for short-term aspiration or injection procedures and is typically used and disposed of immediately after a single clinical act.

Onset

Not applicable to the device itself; clinical onset of effect depends on the medication or fluid administered and theroute of administration, but the syringe enables immediate delivery once used.
