Medical footwear \u2013 autoclavable nursing clogs

Description

OxyClog Autoclavable Nursing Clog is a professional medical clog designed for use in operating theatres, laboratories, aseptic suites and clean rooms. Developed under the Oxypas / Safety Jogger Professional healthcare footwear range, it is manufactured from a durable, flexible thermoplastic material (SEBS-based TPR) that is non-toxic, latex-free, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-mould. The clogs are fully autoclavable at 134–135 °C and can also be machine-washed at 90 °C, making them suitable for repeated sterilisation and decontamination processes in high-risk clinical environments. The closed upper protects the foot while the textured, anti-slip outsole (SRC slip-resistance) and ESD / antistatic properties provide secure grip and electrostatic discharge control on wet or dry floors. An anatomic, textured footbed and shock-absorbing heel area promote comfort and circulation during long shifts. Available in multiple colours and double sizes, OxyClog offers a hygienic, lightweight and long-lasting footwear solution for healthcare and clean-room professionals.

Bnefits

  • Autoclavable at 134–135 °C and washable at 90 °C for high-level sterilisation in operating theatres, labs and clean rooms.
  • Made from hard-wearing SEBS-based thermoplastic rubber (TPR) that is durable, flexible and resistant to abrasion, tearing and repeated bending.
  • Non-toxic, latex-free, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-mould material, supporting infection-control protocols.
  • SRC-rated anti-slip outsole provides maximum slip resistance on both wet and dry floors, reducing the risk of falls.
  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) / antistatic properties help dissipate static electricity in environments with sensitive equipment.
  • Anatomically shaped, textured footbed stimulates circulation and provides long-lasting comfort during extended periods of standing and walking.
  • Shock-absorbing heel area helps reduce impact on joints, contributing to reduced foot, leg and back fatigue.
  • Closed upper and hygienic one-piece construction make the clogs easy to clean and suitable for aseptic and controlled environments.
  • Lightweight, flexible construction allows the foot to move naturally and supports comfortable wear throughout long shifts.
  • Available in multiple colours and double sizes, allowing facilities to standardise footwear while supporting individual fit and preference.

Indications

  • Professional footwear for healthcare workers in operating theatres, surgical suites and recovery areas.
  • Use by staff in clinical laboratories, pharmacy aseptic suites and clean-room environments requiring high hygiene and easy sterilisation.
  • General nursing and hospital ward use where non-slip, washable, closed-upper clogs are preferred.
  • Footwear for other controlled environments such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical production, and certain food or hygiene-critical industries where autoclavable and ESD-compliant clogs are required.
  • Suitable for healthcare professionals who spend prolonged periods standing or walking and require cushioned, anatomically supportive footwear.

Composition

  • Upper and sole: SEBS (styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene) thermoplastic rubber / thermoplastic resin (TPR), non-toxic and latex-free.
  • Integrated anti-static / ESD insert to facilitate dissipation of static electricity.
  • Textured, anatomic footbed moulded into the clog body.
  • Outsole with slip-resistant tread pattern and rubber inserts for SRC-rated grip.
  • Adjustable heel strap (on certain variants) made from matching thermoplastic material with plastic buckle and studs.

Formulation

  • Product type: Autoclavable, reusable medical work clog (non-sterile).
  • Construction: Injection-moulded SEBS / TPR one-piece clog with integrated footbed and non-slip outsole.
  • Height of upper: Low shoe / clog with closed forefoot and ventilated heel area (depending on variant).
  • Slip-resistance classification: EN ISO 20347:2012 OB, SRA or SRC (anti-slip on ceramic and steel surfaces, depending on test standard used).
  • Antistatic / ESD classification: Complies with EN ISO 20347:2012 OB A E SRA / ESD requirements for occupational footwear (model-dependent).
  • Sizes: EU 35/36 to 47/48 (UK approximately 3–13) in double sizes.
  • Colours: Blue, Electric Blue, Electric Green, Fuchsia, Red, White and other selected colours depending on distributor.
  • Intended use: Occupational footwear for professional environments; not a sterile product and not intended as a medical device implanted or applied to a patient.

Packaging

  • Supplied as a pair of clogs (left and right shoe) per retail box.
  • Individual pair typically packed in a printed cardboard shoe box or branded carton with size and colour identification.
  • Outer cartons used for bulk supply to hospitals and clinics may contain multiple pairs by size and colour.
  • Product labelling includes brand/model (OxyClog), size, colour, CE / EN ISO 20347 occupational footwear markings and care / cleaning symbols.

Usage

  • Select the correct size using the manufacturer’s size guide; clogs are supplied in double EU sizes (e.g. 35/36, 37/38). Ensure an appropriate fit with enough toe room and secure heel support.
  • Wear with suitable socks to improve comfort, manage perspiration and reduce friction.
  • Before first use, visually inspect the clogs for any defects or damage. Do not use damaged footwear in professional environments.
  • For routine cleaning, remove gross contamination and wash the clogs according to local infection-control procedures. They may be machine-washed at up to 90 °C.
  • For high-level sterilisation (where required by facility protocol), autoclave the clogs at 134–135 °C in accordance with manufacturer guidance and local policies. Allow clogs to cool and dry completely before wearing.
  • Do not exceed recommended autoclave temperature or cycle duration, and avoid rapid, extreme thermal shocks to prolong product life.
  • Avoid contact with aggressive solvents, oils or chemicals that are incompatible with SEBS / TPR; if exposure occurs, rinse and inspect the clogs for deformation or damage.
  • Regularly inspect the outsole tread for wear. Replace the clogs if tread depth is significantly reduced or slip-resistance is compromised.
  • Replace the clogs if there are visible cracks, significant deformation, loss of cushioning, or if ESD / antistatic performance is suspected to be compromised.
  • Follow local occupational health and safety guidelines for footwear, including site-specific colour-coding or usage rules (e.g. operating theatre only).

Contraindications

  • Not suitable for individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to SEBS, thermoplastic rubber or any of the constituent materials.
  • Not suitable where safety toe protection (e.g. steel or composite toe caps) or puncture-resistant soles are specifically required by workplace risk assessment; in such cases, certified safety footwear must be used instead.
  • Not intended for use as sterile footwear directly involved in invasive sterile fields unless allowed by local infection-control protocols.
  • Not suitable for environments requiring electrically insulating footwear (the clogs are antistatic / ESD and designed to dissipate electricity).
  • Should not be used if the clogs are visibly damaged, cracked, excessively worn or deformed, as safety and slip-resistance may be compromised.

Adverse Effects

  • Potential for pressure points, discomfort, or blisters if an incorrect size is chosen or clogs are worn without suitable socks.
  • In rare cases, contact dermatitis or skin irritation in individuals sensitive to components of SEBS / TPR or additives.
  • Prolonged use of worn or damaged clogs may increase the risk of slips, trips or falls due to reduced tread performance.
  • Insufficient drying after washing or autoclaving may cause temporary discomfort or skin maceration if footwear is worn while still damp.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and sources of excessive heat.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to ozone, oils, solvents or corrosive chemicals that may degrade the thermoplastic material.
  • Do not place heavy objects on top of the clogs for extended periods to prevent deformation.
  • Ensure clogs are completely dry before storage, especially after washing or autoclaving.
  • Keep out of reach of children when not in use in professional environments.

Duration

OxyClog Autoclavable Nursing Clogs are intended as reusable occupational footwear for long-term daily use by a single wearer. Actual service life depends on frequency of use, number of sterilisation / washing cycles, the working environment and wear pattern. Clogs should be replaced whenever they show significant wear, loss of slip-resistance, visible damage or reduced comfort, as determined by the user and occupational health and safety policies.

Onset

Comfort and slip-resistance benefits are provided immediately upon wearing the clogs; hygiene and sterilisation benefits are realised after each proper washing or autoclave cycle.
