Catheterisation Procedure Packs

Description

The National Catherisation Pack Opt 6 is a sterile, latex-free Rocialle catheterisation procedure pack containing all key consumables required to perform aseptic urinary catheterisation and related urology procedures. Supplied as a single-use dressing and procedure pack, it includes non-woven swabs, large cotton wool balls, a polypropylene gallipot, blue Griprite forceps, a yellow clinical waste bag with red tie, a white pulp kidney dish, a plain green paper drape and a sterile field. The pack is designed to support consistent aseptic technique, improve efficiency, reduce set-up time and help standardise catheterisation practice across hospital, community and primary care settings.

Bnefits

  • Provides all essential consumables for urinary catheterisation in a single sterile pack, supporting consistent aseptic technique.
  • Reduces preparation and set-up time by eliminating the need to gather multiple individual items.
  • Helps standardise catheterisation practice across wards, theatres and community settings.
  • Latex-free construction reduces the risk of latex-related reactions in patients and staff.
  • Single-use, sterile pack helps support infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Includes a yellow clinical waste bag and red tie to facilitate safe disposal of used items.
  • Rocialle procedure packs are widely used in NHS facilities and designed to meet the needs of urology and acute care teams.
  • Cost-effective solution that can help reduce wastage and improve stock management versus individually sourced items.

Indications

  • Use as a sterile consumable pack for urinary catheterisation procedures.
  • Preparation of a sterile field and consumables for insertion, change or removal of urinary catheters in hospital or community settings.
  • Support of aseptic urological procedures where the included items (swabs, cotton wool, gallipot, forceps, drape, kidney dish, waste bag) are required.
  • Suitable for use in acute hospital wards, theatres, emergency departments, outpatient clinics, nursing homes and community care, according to local protocols.

Composition

  • 5 x Non-woven swab 7.5 x 7.5 cm, 4 ply.
  • 5 x Cotton wool balls, large (BP quality).
  • 1 x Polypropylene gallipot 60 ml.
  • 4 x Griprite forceps, blue, approximately 128 mm, single-use plastic.
  • 1 x Yellow clinical waste bag (folded, with adhesive lip in some variants).
  • 1 x Red tie for yellow waste bag (approx. 10 cm).
  • 1 x White pulp kidney dish.
  • 1 x Plain paper drape, green, approx. 60 x 90 cm (folded).
  • 1 x Sterile field (wrap or tray liner).
  • All components supplied sterile and latex free; no pharmaceuticals included.

Formulation

  • Sterile, latex-free catheterisation procedure pack containing non-woven, cotton, paper, pulp and plastic components.
  • Pack type: National Catherisation Pack Opt 6 (Rocialle code RML112-003).
  • Single-use medical procedure pack intended for urinary catheterisation and related urology procedures.
  • Supplied ready to use in a sterile wrap/field for establishment of an aseptic working area.

Packaging

  • Each pack supplied sterile in an individual peel-open wrap or pouch which also serves as a sterile field when opened.
  • Case quantities commonly supplied as 30 single sterile packs per outer carton (may vary by distributor).

Usage

  • Use only by trained healthcare professionals in accordance with local catheterisation protocols and infection-prevention guidelines.
  • Check the outer packaging for integrity and expiry date before use; do not use if the sterile pack is damaged or past its expiry date.
  • Open the outer pack using aseptic technique, presenting the inner contents onto a sterile field as per local practice.
  • Arrange the swabs, cotton wool balls, forceps, gallipot, drape, kidney dish and other items on the sterile field as required.
  • Use the green paper drape and sterile field to establish an aseptic working area at the procedure site.
  • Use the gallipot for antiseptic solution, lubricating jelly or other fluids as per local protocol (fluids not included in the pack).
  • Use Griprite forceps, swabs and cotton wool balls as required during skin preparation and catheter insertion or removal procedures.
  • On completion of the procedure, place all used consumables into the yellow clinical waste bag, secure with the red tie and dispose of according to local clinical waste policies.
  • The pack and all components are for single use only and must not be re-used or re-sterilised.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if the sterile packaging is damaged, compromised or opened before use.
  • Not suitable for use in patients or staff with known allergies to any of the pack materials (e.g. non-woven fibres, paper, pulp, polypropylene, certain plastics); alternative products should be selected in such cases.
  • Not intended for use in procedures other than those for which the contents are appropriate, according to local clinical protocols.
  • Single-use only; re-use may increase risk of infection and is contraindicated.

Adverse Effects

  • If aseptic technique is not maintained, there is a risk of infection associated with urinary catheterisation; this risk relates to the procedure rather than the pack itself.
  • Local skin irritation or sensitivity reactions may occur in rare cases due to contact with pack materials; discontinue use and follow local policies if adverse reactions are suspected.
  • Incorrect disposal of the used pack may pose environmental or sharps/waste handling risks; follow local clinical waste procedures.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat or moisture.
  • Keep packs in their original cartons until required to protect them from damage and contamination.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
  • Do not use if the packaging is torn, punctured or otherwise compromised, as sterility may be affected.

Duration

Intended for use during a single catheterisation or related urological procedure; the pack is used once and then discarded immediately after the procedure is completed.

Onset

Provides an immediate sterile field and ready-to-use consumables as soon as the pack is opened using aseptic technique; clinical outcomes depend on the catheterisation procedure itself rather than the pack contents.
