LED examination light on flexible arm
Description
Coolview CLED30 is a powerful LED medical examination light from Brandon Medical, delivering 30,000 Lux at 0.5 m with a neutral white colour temperature of 4,400 K. Designed as a multi-purpose, affordable professional examination light, it is recommended for gynaecology, cervical screening, dermatology, patient care, general and emergency examinations. The bright white LED light offers excellent colour rendering (CRI Ra ≥93, R9 ≥90), ensuring realistic skin tone representation which is critical for accurate diagnosis. The compact, modern light head is mounted on a flexible, stable arm that allows precise positioning over the patient, while the fully enclosed head is sealed for improved infection control (IP20, dust and light liquid ingress protection). Continuous dimming provides smooth adjustment of brightness to suit different procedures, and the long-life LED engine (approx. 50,000 hours) offers low maintenance and low power consumption for primary care practices, outpatient clinics and minor treatment rooms.
Bnefits
- High-intensity LED illumination of 30,000 Lux at 0.5 m for clear visualization during examinations.
- Neutral white colour temperature of 4,400 K and high colour rendering (Ra ≥93, R9 ≥90) provide realistic skin tone reproduction, supporting accurate diagnosis.
- Comfortable, cool light output that does not significantly heat the working area or patient.
- Continuous dimming function enables clinicians to finely adjust brightness for different procedures and patient comfort.
- Flexible, stable arm and ergonomic light head allow effortless positioning and reliable stay-put stability without drift.
- Modern, professional appearance that helps inspire confidence in patients in GP surgeries and clinical examination rooms.
- Fully enclosed, sealed light head with IP20 protection improves infection control by reducing dust and light liquid ingress.
- Long LED life (around 50,000 hours) and low power consumption (approx. 7.8–8.1 W) reduce maintenance and lifetime operating costs.
- Multiple mounting options available (wall, back-plate wall, desk, rail, mobile and pendant mounts) to suit different room layouts and workflows.
- Designed and manufactured by a UK-based medical equipment specialist with decades of experience in clinical lighting.
Indications
- General medical examination in GP consulting rooms and outpatient clinics.
- Gynaecological examinations, including cervical screening and pap smears (particularly with CLED30SH mounting configuration).
- Dermatology consultations requiring high-quality colour rendition for assessment of skin lesions and rashes.
- Patient care and observation in primary care and outpatient treatment rooms.
- Emergency examination and minor injury assessment in urgent care, emergency departments and treatment centres.
- General examination lighting in dental, veterinary and other clinical settings where high-quality white light is required.
Composition
- LED-based examination light with integrated LED light engine.
- Fully enclosed light head housing with optical system and LED module.
- Flexible or articulated arm system providing precise positioning and stability (SV or SH arm variants depending on configuration).
- Mounting hardware for wall, back-plate wall, desk, rail, mobile base or pendant pole (configuration-dependent).
- Mains-powered electrical assembly with integral driver electronics and 1.8 m power cable terminating in a UK plug (as standard).
Formulation
- Medical-grade LED examination luminaire providing 30,000 Lux at 0.5 m.
- Colour temperature: 4,400 K neutral white light.
- Illuminated area at 0.5 m: approximately 180 mm diameter.
- Colour rendering index (Ra): greater than or equal to 93.
- Red colour rendering index (R9): greater than or equal to 90.
- R13 index (skin tones): approximately 95.
- Head rotation: 300°.
- IP20 degree of protection against solid objects and limited liquid ingress.
- Typical LED life: around 50,000 hours.
- Power consumption: approximately 7.8–8.1 W (16–20 VA), depending on model and setting.
Packaging
- Single Coolview CLED30 examination light assembly with chosen mounting option (e.g. wall, back-plate wall, desk, rail, mobile or pendant).
- Integrated flexible arm (SH or SV variant) attached to the luminaire for precise positioning.
- Mains power cable (approx. 1.8 m) terminating in a UK plug supplied as standard.
- Installation and user instructions from Brandon Medical.
- Supplied as a non-sterile medical electrical device for professional use.
Usage
- Have the light installed and commissioned by suitably qualified personnel in accordance with Brandon Medical’s installation instructions and local electrical regulations.
- Select an appropriate mounting position (wall, rail, desk, mobile, etc.) to provide clear access around the examination area while avoiding obstruction in the room.
- Connect the mains power supply using the supplied 1.8 m cable and plug, ensuring the outlet is correctly rated and earthed.
- Switch the light on using the control on the light head or arm (model dependent) and adjust brightness using the continuous dimming control until the desired illumination level is achieved.
- Position the light head over the examination field using the flexible arm; fine-tune head orientation and distance to obtain the required intensity and illuminated area without dazzling the patient.
- Avoid directing the beam straight into the patient’s or clinician’s eyes; always angle the light to illuminate the area of interest.
- After use, switch off the light and reposition the arm so it does not obstruct staff or patients moving around the room.
- Clean and disinfect external surfaces of the light head, arm and controls regularly, following the manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations and local infection prevention policies (do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse electrical parts).
- Arrange periodic inspection and functional testing as part of the facility’s medical equipment maintenance schedule, including checks of arm stability, cable integrity and light output.
Contraindications
- Not intended for use as a surgical operating theatre light or for procedures requiring higher illuminance than 30,000 Lux.
- Use with caution in patients with known photosensitivity or conditions aggravated by bright light; adjust intensity and exposure accordingly.
- Do not use in areas with flammable anaesthetic mixtures or potentially explosive atmospheres unless the light is specifically certified for such environments.
- Not suitable for outdoor use or environments with high levels of dust, moisture or corrosive vapours beyond the IP20 rating.
Adverse Effects
- Direct, prolonged viewing of the light source at close range may cause temporary glare or visual discomfort; users should avoid looking directly into the beam.
- In rare cases, bright examination lighting may exacerbate discomfort in photosensitive individuals; brightness should be reduced or alternative measures taken if this occurs.
- Improper installation or use contrary to the manufacturer’s instructions may pose general electrical or mechanical risks (e.g. cable damage, unstable mounting).
Storage Conditions
- When not installed, store the light in its original packaging in a clean, dry indoor environment.
- Protect from excessive moisture, dust and corrosive atmospheres.
- Avoid mechanical shocks, crushing or bending of the arm and light head.
- Store and operate within the temperature and humidity ranges specified in the manufacturer’s documentation (typically normal indoor clinical conditions).
- Do not cover the light head or ventilation areas during operation or storage in a way that would impair heat dissipation.
Duration
Used for the duration of each clinical examination or procedure, typically from a few minutes up to the length of the consultation; the light can be operated continuously within its specified duty cycle during normal practice hours.
Onset
Illumination is immediate on switching the light on; full brightness is available without warm-up time, with intensity adjustable in real time via continuous dimming.
