Electric variable-height rehabilitation tilt table
Description
The Plinth 2000 Variable Height Tilt Table-Green is a UK-manufactured electric rehabilitation tilt table (Plinth Medical Model 501E variant) designed to lower to wheelchair height and tilt patients smoothly from horizontal towards standing. It features electric height and tilt adjustment controlled via a four-button hand switch that allows simultaneous or fine independent control of both functions. Large toe-braked castors, adjustable patient harnesses, a standard patient footboard and swing-back grab handles provide safety and support, while comfort foam and hardwearing anti-microbial vinyl upholstery ensure long service life in demanding rehabilitation and examination environments. With a safe working load of 160 kg, 100 mm toe-braked castors and 130 mm hoist clearance, it is suitable for a wide range of clinical settings.
Bnefits
- Lowers to wheelchair height for easier and safer patient transfers onto the table
- Electric height and tilt operation for smooth, controlled positioning with minimal manual handling
- Four-button low-voltage hand control allowing simultaneous or fine independent adjustment of height and tilt
- Designed as a robust platform for a wide range of clinical applications from rehabilitation through to examination
- Safe working load of 160 kg (evenly distributed), supporting a wide variety of adult patients
- 100 mm toe-braked castors for stable positioning and easy manoeuvrability within the clinic
- Hoist clearance of approximately 130 mm to accommodate many mobile hoists for dependent patients
- Swing-back patient grab handles adjustable for height and rotation to aid transfer and provide secure handholds during tilting
- Supplied with a set of patient harnesses for secure fixation during standing or semi-standing treatment
- Standard removable patient footboard for secure foot placement during tilt and weight-bearing activities
- Comfort foam upholstery to improve patient comfort during longer rehabilitation sessions
- Hardwearing, fully washable, fire-retardant anti-microbial vinyl upholstery in a green finish for easy cleaning and infection control
- UK manufactured with lifetime frame guarantee and 5-year parts guarantee, with an average service life of around 16 years
- Low running costs and low maintenance due to robust mechanical and electrical design
Indications
- Supporting patients in semi-standing and standing positions as part of rehabilitation programmes following prolonged illness, stroke, head injury and other physical disabilities
- Gradual orthostatic conditioning and weight-bearing for patients who have been bed-bound or are deconditioned
- Physiotherapy and neuro-rehabilitation interventions where controlled tilt is required to improve circulation, postural control and muscle strength
- Use in hospitals, rehabilitation centres and outpatient clinics where safe and reproducible tilt therapy is indicated
- General clinical examination of patients requiring supported supine-to-upright positioning when prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional
Composition
- Heavy-duty welded steel base frame and column engineered for clinical use
- Single-section variable height tilt top with high-density comfort foam padding
- Hardwearing, fire-retardant, anti-microbial vinyl upholstery in green, suitable for regular cleaning and disinfection
- Two electric actuator motors (height and tilt) controlled via a low-voltage hand switch
- 100 mm locking swivel castors (toe-braked) mounted to the base for mobility and stable locking
- Standard removable patient footboard that locks into the frame with fixing bolts
- Height- and rotation-adjustable patient grab handles mounted at the sides of the table
- Set of patient harnesses and side poles for secure strapping during tilting procedures
- Internal electrical system using 24 V DC actuators and control box, powered from a 220–240 V or 110–120 V mains supply via a transformer
Formulation
- Electric variable-height tilt table with hand-switch control of both height and tilt from horizontal to approximately +85°
- Lowers to roughly 52 cm for transfers and raises to around 97 cm for clinician working height, aiding safe manual handling
- Tilting function allows controlled movement from supine through semi-recumbent to near-standing positions
- Single-piece top simplifies positioning and strapping for many rehabilitation protocols
- Grab handles, harnesses and footboard are used together to stabilise the patient while weight-bearing during tilt
- Designed as a Class I medical device for use in supervised clinical environments with appropriate monitoring

Usage
- Unpack the tilt table carefully and remove all packaging, taking care not to damage upholstery, gas springs or electrical components.
- Position the table on a firm, level floor with sufficient space around all sides for patient transfer and therapist access.
- Lock the castors using the toe-operated brakes and ensure the table is stable before any patient transfer.
- Connect the mains plug to a suitable earthed power outlet, ensuring the cable is intact and routed so that no-one can trip over it.
- Before first use, familiarise yourself with the user manual and the four-button hand switch controlling height up/down and tilt up/down.
- Lower the table to its minimum height before assisting a patient onto the surface to reduce transfer effort and risk.
- Fit the standard footboard securely to the frame using the supplied bolts and verify that it is locked firmly before tilting.
- Adjust the patient grab handles to an appropriate height and orientation to assist patient transfer and provide support during tilt.
- Apply all supplied tilt table straps and harnesses securely around the patient, ensuring a snug but comfortable fit before any movement.
- Use the hand switch to tilt and raise the table gradually, monitoring the patient closely for signs of discomfort, dizziness or distress; stop and return to a safer position if adverse symptoms occur.
- At the end of the treatment, return the table slowly to the horizontal position, lower the height as needed, release harnesses and assist the patient off the table safely.
- After each treatment, disconnect power if the table will be moved; unlock castors only when no patient is on the table and move it by holding the metal base frame, not the upholstery.
- For routine cleaning, disconnect from the mains, lock the castors, and wipe the upholstery and accessible surfaces from top to bottom with warm water and mild soap on a damp cloth; follow with a wipe using clean water and then dry with lint-free towels.
- For decontamination, repeat cleaning using a dilute hypochlorite solution (up to 10,000 ppm available chlorine) as recommended, then rinse thoroughly with clean water, dry and dispose of cleaning materials safely.
- Perform six-monthly checks of bolts, upholstery fixings, castors, gas struts (if fitted), cables and pivot points; arrange an annual service by a suitably qualified engineer in line with manufacturer guidance.
- Always disconnect the couch from the electrical supply before performing any maintenance checks or cleaning involving the underside or electrical components.

- Use and store the tilt table in a dry indoor clinical environment within the temperature and humidity ranges specified by the manufacturer.
- Disconnect the mains supply before long-term storage, maintenance or when the table is not expected to be used for an extended period.
- Keep the area around the base clear so the castors, grab handles and electrical cables are unobstructed and can move freely when required.
- Avoid exposing upholstery and painted surfaces to abrasive cleaners, strong alkalis or organic solvents that are not approved for use on medical vinyl.
- Do not use or store the table in areas where flammable anaesthetic gases or explosive atmospheres may be present.
