Ultrasound transmission gel

Description

Anagel Ultrasound Gel 250ml is a clear, colourless, odourless, water-based ultrasound transmission gel used to conduct ultrasound waves between the transducer and the skin. It is designed for diagnostic and therapeutic medical ultrasound procedures, including obstetrics, physiotherapy, radiology, vascular and cardiac examinations, as well as aesthetic applications such as IPL treatments and cavitation. The gel is completely aqueous so it will not stain clothing or damage transducers, is bacteriostatic, non-sensitising and non-irritating, and contains no formaldehyde. It is acoustically correct across a broad range of frequencies and is supplied as a CE-certified medical device for external use only.

Bnefits

  • Water-based ultrasound transmission gel for medical diagnosis and therapy
  • Acoustically correct for the broad range of ultrasound frequencies used
  • Clear, colourless and odourless for easy visualisation during procedures
  • Completely aqueous and non-staining; will not damage transducers or clothing
  • Bacteriostatic to help inhibit bacterial growth in the gel
  • Non-sensitising and non-irritating for most patients, suitable for frequent use
  • Free from formaldehyde (and reported as free from added salt in manufacturer datasheet)
  • CE-certified medical device with typical shelf life of two years or more when stored correctly
  • Suitable for both medical and aesthetic procedures (including IPL and cavitation treatments)
  • Ready-to-use gel in a convenient 250 ml bottle format

Indications

  • Ultrasonic diagnosis procedures (general medical ultrasound)
  • Ultrasonic therapy procedures
  • Obstetric ultrasound examinations
  • Physiotherapy ultrasound treatments
  • Radiology ultrasound examinations
  • Vascular and cardiac ultrasound examinations
  • ECG (as a conductive gel where specified by protocol)
  • EEG and EMG procedures requiring a viscous conductive gel
  • Defibrillation procedures where ultrasound gel is indicated as the coupling medium
  • Aesthetic and beauty treatments including IPL and epilight procedures
  • Body contouring and cavitation treatments using ultrasound-based devices
  • Use as a coupling medium in other external diagnostic equipment where a viscous, water-based gel is required

Composition

  • Aqua (Deionized water)
  • Propane-1,2-diol (Monopropylene glycol)
  • Carbomer
  • Triethanolamine
  • Mixture of Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone (preservative system)

Formulation

  • Non-sterile, water-based ultrasound transmission gel
  • Clear, colourless, odourless gel
  • Bacteriostatic, non-sensitising, non-irritating formulation under normal conditions of use
  • Formaldehyde-free (and reported as free from added salt in manufacturer datasheet)
  • Designed for external use only on intact skin
  • Acoustically correct gel suitable for a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound frequencies

Packaging

  • 250 ml bottle of Anagel Ultrasound Gel
  • Supplied as a single 250 ml bottle; also available from manufacturer in multi-pack formats such as 250 ml × 40, 500 ml, 1 L and 5 L containers (manufacturer SKU: UGEL250 for the 250 ml size)
  • Plastic bottle format suitable for clinical and aesthetic treatment room use

Usage

  • For external use only on intact skin.
  • Apply a sufficient quantity of gel directly to the ultrasound transducer or to the patient’s intact skin over the area to be examined or treated.
  • Ensure that an unbroken column of gel exists between the transducer and the skin surface to optimise acoustic coupling.
  • Follow the ultrasound equipment and transducer manufacturer’s instructions for use, including any specific guidance on gel quantity and application technique.
  • After completing the procedure, wipe off any remaining gel from the patient’s skin and from the transducer using appropriate cleaning materials in line with infection control policies.
  • Do not ingest. Avoid contact with eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Discontinue use and remove the gel if irritation, redness or other adverse skin reactions occur, and assess the patient as clinically appropriate.

Contraindications

  • No specific contraindications are listed by the manufacturer for the finished gel when used as directed.
  • Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the listed ingredients (e.g. benzyl alcohol or isothiazolinone preservatives).
  • Avoid use on broken, inflamed or infected skin unless the benefit is judged to outweigh the risk by a healthcare professional.
  • Not intended for internal, mucosal, ophthalmic, or injection use.
  • Use with caution in individuals with a history of contact dermatitis to cosmetic or topical preservative systems; monitor for signs of local irritation or sensitisation.

Adverse Effects

  • Based on the safety data sheet, the finished product is not classified as hazardous and is not expected to cause significant adverse effects under normal conditions of use.
  • Rare cases of local skin irritation, redness or allergic contact dermatitis may occur in sensitised individuals due to the preservative system (benzyl alcohol and isothiazolinones).
  • Accidental eye contact may cause transient discomfort or irritation and should be managed by rinsing the eyes with water.
  • Ingestion is not intended; if significant quantities are ingested, medical advice should be sought as per SDS guidance.
  • Any suspected adverse reactions should be documented and managed according to local clinical governance and pharmacovigilance procedures.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a well-ventilated place.
  • Keep cool and protect from heat and direct sunlight.
  • Store at typical room temperature within the range specified by local regulations for medical devices (do not freeze unless specifically allowed by the manufacturer).
  • Keep the container tightly closed when not in use to prevent contamination and drying.
  • Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised users.
  • Dispose of any unused product after the expiry date shown on the packaging.

Duration

Used only during the duration of the ultrasound or aesthetic procedure as a coupling medium and removed from the skin after the procedure is completed; there is no ongoing or cumulative treatment course.

Onset

Immediate acoustic coupling once the gel is applied between the transducer and the skin; effect persists only while the gel remains in place during the procedure.
