Single-use 18G 40 mm conventional needle
Description
A sterile, single-use 18G × 40 mm (1.5 inch) hypodermic needle from BD’s Microlance™ 3 conventional needle range. The pink-hub needle is designed for injection or aspiration of medical fluids — including medications, fluids or blood — and is compatible with standard Luer-lock or Luer-slip syringes. It offers a precise 3-cut bevel stainless steel cannula with medical-grade silicone lubrication for smooth penetration and minimal tissue trauma.
Bnefits
- Precise 3-angle bevel design for smooth and sharp penetration and reduced tissue trauma.
- Thin-wall stainless steel cannula ensures reliable flow rates for injections or aspirations.
- Sterile, single-use and latex-free — reducing risk of infection and allergic reactions.
- Compatible with standard Luer-lock or Luer-slip syringes for broad clinical applicability.
- Colour-coded pink hub (18G) enables quick identification and organisation in clinical/ag- aesthetic settings.
- Manufactured under ISO / CE-certified standards, ensuring compliance with medical device regulations.
Indications
- Intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous injection of medications or fluids.
- Aspiration or withdrawal of bodily fluids (e.g. blood sampling), where 18G × 40 mm needle is clinically appropriate.
- Aesthetic procedures requiring reliable needle insertion for filler, mesotherapy or other injectable preparations — when 18G gauge and 40 mm length is required.
- General clinical or surgical settings needing conventional hypodermic needles for injection or fluid aspiration.
Composition
- Cannula: stainless steel AISI 304 (chromium-nickel-manganese-silicon alloy)
- Needle hub and shield: colour-coded polypropylene (pink)
- Bonding agent: epoxy resin used to attach needle to hub
- Lubricant: medical-grade silicone oil applied to cannula (< 0.25 mg/cm²) to reduce insertion friction.
Formulation
- Sterile, single-use conventional hypodermic needle, 18G × 40 mm, regular bevel, thin-wall cannula, colour-coded pink hub, compatible with Luer-slip or Luer-lock syringes.
Packaging
- Individually sterile-wrapped needles (single-pack) per BD packaging standards.
- Shelf box containing 100 needles.
- Bulk/shipping case holds 5000 or more units (depending on distributor), per BD logistics documentation.
- Packaging includes CE mark (CE 0318) and manufacturing site identifier (Fraga, Spain).
Usage
- Select appropriate syringe (Luer-lock or Luer-slip) and ensure compatibility.
- Ensure needle packaging is intact; do not use if opened or compromised.
- Attach the needle securely to the syringe using Luer connection.
- Perform injection or aspiration per clinical or aesthetic protocol, following aseptic technique.
- Use only once; do not reuse to prevent cross-contamination or infection.
- Dispose of used needle immediately into a proper sharps container as per local regulations.
Contraindications
- Do not use if sterile packaging is damaged or opened.
- Not for reuse — single-use only; reuse increases risk of infection and needle degradation.
- Not suitable for patients with known allergy to stainless steel or silicone lubricant (rare).
- Do not use for applications requiring non-hypodermic needle types (e.g. blood collection requiring butterfly needles) unless clinically indicated.
Adverse Effects
- Local pain, bruising, bleeding, erythema or swelling at injection/aspiration site.
- Risk of infection or abscess if aseptic technique is not followed.
- Needle breakage or bending if misused or subjected to lateral force before/during insertion.
- Potential discomfort due to needle size (18G is relatively large diameter compared with finer gauges).
Storage Conditions
- Store in original sealed packaging until use to maintain sterility.
- Store in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight, extreme heat or moisture.
- Protect from physical damage or deformation (especially needle bending).
- Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised persons; dispose of appropriately after use.
