Vented admixture (fill) needle with cannula side port, 18G x 40mm, Luer-lock
Description
BD Nokor™ Admix Needles, 18G x 40mm (1½\), Pink, are sterile, single-use fill needles designed specifically for the aspiration of fluids from vials and ampoules and for the reconstitution of powdered medications. These needles are not intended for skin or intravascular injection. The vented point design features a cannula side port that directs the fluid onto the side wall of the container during reconstitution, which helps reduce foaming, spraying and internal container pressure. The scalpel-like non-coring tip glides smoothly through vial stoppers, reducing the risk of coring and rubber fragments, while the transparent Luer-lock hub provides a secure connection to compatible disposable syringes. The microthin wall 18G cannula supports efficient fluid transfer, making the product well suited to pharmacy, hospital, and aesthetic clinic medication preparation workflows.
Bnefits
- Purpose-designed for aspiration of fluids from vials and ampoules and for reconstitution of powdered medications; not intended for skin injections.
- Cannula side port directs fluid to the sidewall of the container during reconstitution, helping to reduce foaming, spray and internal container pressure.
- Scalpel-like non-coring tip glides through vial stoppers quickly and smoothly, reducing stopper coring and minimising rubber particle contamination.
- Microthin wall 18G cannula provides high flow for efficient medication draw-up and reconstitution while maintaining structural integrity.
- Transparent Luer-lock connector ensures a secure, leak-resistant connection with compatible syringes (e.g. BD Plastipak™ and BD Discardit™).
- Sterile, single-use design lowers the risk of cross-contamination and supports best-practice aseptic medication preparation.
- Latex- and PVC-free construction (as specified by several distributors) reduces the risk of latex-related reactions and supports material compatibility.
- Colour-coded pink hub denotes 18G size for quick visual identification within medication preparation areas.
- Suitable for a wide range of clinical and pharmacy settings, including aesthetic clinics where frequent reconstitution of injectable products is required.
Indications
- Aspiration of fluids from vials and ampoules using a syringe for medication preparation.
- Reconstitution of powdered or lyophilised medications, directing fluid towards the side wall of the vial to reduce foaming and spray.
- Drawing up diluents and medicines in hospital pharmacies, wards, theatres, emergency departments and clinics.
- Use in aesthetic and dermatology practice to reconstitute botulinum toxin and other injectable aesthetic products (under appropriate clinical protocols).
- Situations where a high-flow, non-coring fill needle is preferred over standard hypodermic needles to protect vial stoppers and reduce coring.
Composition
- Cannula: stainless steel microthin-wall 18G x 40mm (1½") shaft with scalpel-like non-coring bevel and side port near the tip.
- Hub: transparent plastic Luer-lock hub designed to connect securely to compatible syringes.
- Vented point design incorporating a cannula side port to direct fluid against the container sidewall during reconstitution.
- Latex-free and PVC-free materials (as indicated by major distributors).
- Sterilisation method: gamma-irradiated single-use device (as per BD regional product catalogues).
Formulation
- Sterile, single-use, non-coring admixture (fill) needle, 18G x 40mm (1½"), pink colour-code, microthin wall, with vented point and cannula side port, Luer-lock hub, non-pyrogenic and latex-/PVC-free.
Packaging
- Box of 100 BD Nokor™ Admix Needles, 18G x 40mm (1½"), Pink (REF 300779).
- Each needle is individually packaged in a sterile blister or peel pack to maintain asepsis until point of use.
- Outer carton printed with product name, gauge and length, colour code (pink), reference number 300779, lot number, expiry date, sterilisation method and regulatory symbols including CE mark (in relevant regions).
- Packaging configured for use in clinical and pharmacy environments, facilitating organised storage and stock rotation.
Usage
- Verify that the BD Nokor™ Admix Needle (18G x 40mm) is appropriate for the intended use (vial/ampoule aspiration or medication reconstitution) and that it is not being used for skin or intravascular injection.
- Check that the sterile pack is intact and within expiry; do not use if packaging is damaged or expired.
- Attach the needle securely to a compatible Luer-lock syringe, maintaining aseptic technique.
- For vial access, disinfect the vial stopper according to institutional policy, then insert the needle through the stopper using the scalpel-like point, taking care not to bend the cannula.
- Direct the fluid through the side port onto the inner sidewall of the container to reconstitute powdered medication with minimal foaming and spray; gently swirl the vial as recommended by the medication manufacturer.
- Aspirate the reconstituted solution or liquid medication into the syringe as required.
- Once medication preparation is complete, detach and safely dispose of the BD Nokor™ needle in an approved sharps container; if medication is to be injected, replace the Nokor™ needle with an appropriate injection or infusion device as per clinical protocol.
- Do not reuse; BD Nokor™ Admix Needles are designed and labelled as single-use devices.
- Follow local policies and guidelines for aseptic technique, medication handling, and sharps safety at all times.
Contraindications
- Not intended for skin or intravascular injection; do not use BD Nokor™ Admix Needles as hypodermic injection needles.
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to stainless steel or any component material of the device.
- Do not use if the sterile packaging is damaged, opened, wet or otherwise compromised.
- Single use only; reuse of the device may increase the risk of cross-contamination, infection or needle damage.
- Not suitable for applications requiring blunt filter needles or specific filtration; use appropriate alternative devices where filtration is required.
Adverse Effects
- Potential for needlestick injury to healthcare workers if sharps safety procedures are not followed.
- Risk of vial stopper damage or coring if the device is misused despite its non-coring design.
- Possible spray or aerosolisation of medication if reconstitution technique is incorrect or if vial pressure is not properly managed.
- As a fill needle not intended for injection, direct patient-related adverse effects are generally limited to issues arising from medication handling errors rather than the device itself.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry environment at normal room temperature, away from direct sunlight and extremes of heat or cold.
- Keep in original packaging until use to maintain sterility and protect from contamination.
- Do not expose packaging to moisture or mechanical damage that could compromise sterility or needle integrity.
- Do not use beyond the expiry date indicated on the box and individual packs.
- Store in a secure area away from unauthorised access, and follow local protocols for inventory control.
