Welch Allyn FlexiPort\u2122 1-tube tri-purpose blood pressure port fitting/connector

Description

The BD Port Fitting – 1 Tube, Tri-purpose – Single is a Welch Allyn FlexiPort™ blood pressure (BP) accessory designed to connect a single BP cuff tube to compatible devices using a tri-purpose FlexiPort connector. This one-tube port fitting incorporates a tri-purpose connector (#5082-168 style) at one end and a single flexible tube leading to a FlexiPort port adapter at the other, allowing a reusable or disposable Welch Allyn FlexiPort cuff to be connected to a range of professional blood pressure instruments. The design supports quick cuff changes, simplifies inventory by using a universal FlexiPort connection, and maintains a secure, leak-resistant pathway for non-invasive blood pressure measurement in clinical environments.

Bnefits

  • Provides a single-tube tri-purpose connector that links Welch Allyn FlexiPort blood pressure cuffs to compatible BP devices and monitors.
  • Tri-purpose connector design allows use with multiple blood pressure systems and configurations, reducing the need for multiple dedicated tube sets.
  • Enables rapid attachment and detachment of FlexiPort cuffs, simplifying cuff changes between patients and reducing workflow interruptions.
  • Supports standard non-invasive blood pressure measurement by maintaining a secure, leak-resistant air pathway between cuff and device.
  • Single-tube configuration helps keep tubing management simple and reduces clutter around the patient.
  • Designed specifically for Welch Allyn FlexiPort technology, helping standardise BP accessories across devices and facilitating easier stock management.
  • Durable construction suitable for repeated clinical use in demanding environments such as wards, outpatient clinics and primary care.

Indications

  • Use as a connector/port fitting between Welch Allyn FlexiPort blood pressure cuffs and compatible blood pressure measurement devices.
  • Professional non-invasive blood pressure monitoring in hospitals, clinics, GP surgeries, outpatient departments and community care settings.
  • Situations where FlexiPort cuffs are used and a 1-tube, tri-purpose connector is required to interface with the BP monitor or aneroid device.
  • Use as part of a blood pressure monitoring system on Welch Allyn vital signs monitors, aneroid sphygmomanometers, or other compatible equipment.

Composition

  • Connector: tri-purpose blood pressure connector (FlexiPort-compatible), typically moulded from medical-grade polymer.
  • Port adapter: FlexiPort-style port interface designed to mate with Welch Allyn FlexiPort blood pressure cuffs.
  • Tubing: single flexible blood pressure tube (approx. 24–31.5 in / 60–80 cm length depending on variant) made from medical-grade, latex-free material.
  • Colouring and markings: neutral or product-specific colour with printed or moulded part codes as supplied by Welch Allyn.
  • Latex-free materials to reduce risk of latex-related hypersensitivity.

Formulation

  • Single-tube non-sterile blood pressure port fitting with tri-purpose connector on one end and FlexiPort port adapter on the other, intended for repeated use in non-invasive blood pressure measurement systems.

Packaging

  • Supplied by Medisave as a single unit (1-TPS/SINGLE) per pack.
  • Other distributors may supply in bags of 10 or similar multi-packs for institutional use.
  • Packaging typically includes product description (BP Port Fitting, 1 Tube, Tri-purpose), part/sku codes (e.g. 1-TPS, 1631-TPL, BW5093 depending on region), manufacturer name (Welch Allyn) and standard regulatory symbols.
  • Packed in protective packaging suitable for storage in clinical supply areas and BP accessory stock rooms.

Usage

  • Verify that the port fitting is compatible with the Welch Allyn FlexiPort cuffs and blood pressure device to be used.
  • Inspect the tubing and connectors for cracks, kinks, or visible damage before each use; do not use if damaged.
  • Attach the FlexiPort port adapter end of the fitting securely to the corresponding FlexiPort connection on the blood pressure cuff.
  • Connect the tri-purpose connector end to the appropriate port on the blood pressure device, wall aneroid, or monitor, ensuring a firm and leak-free fit.
  • Confirm that the tubing is not twisted or kinked and that the cuff is correctly positioned on the patient according to clinical guidelines.
  • Perform blood pressure measurement following the manufacturer’s instructions for the monitor and institutional protocols.
  • After use, disconnect the port fitting and cuff carefully; clean and disinfect the tubing and connectors as per local infection-control policy and the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
  • Periodically check the fitting for wear and replace it if the connectors become loose, the tubing becomes stiff or cracked, or if leaks are suspected.

Contraindications

  • Not intended for invasive blood pressure monitoring or any intravascular connection.
  • Do not use if the port fitting or tubing is visibly damaged, cracked, excessively worn or does not form a secure connection with the cuff or device.
  • Not suitable for use with non-compatible blood pressure systems or devices that do not support the Welch Allyn FlexiPort/tri-purpose connector standard.
  • Do not use as general-purpose IV, gas or fluid tubing outside its intended use for non-invasive blood pressure measurement.

Adverse Effects

  • Incorrect or unreliable blood pressure readings if the connector is not securely attached or if the tubing leaks or kinks.
  • Potential patient discomfort if tubing is positioned poorly, causing pulling on the cuff during measurement.
  • Risk of cross-contamination if the fitting is not cleaned and disinfected in accordance with infection-prevention policies between patients.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a clean, dry area at normal room temperature.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight, excessive heat or cold that could degrade plastic materials or tubing flexibility.
  • Avoid crushing, stretching or kinking the tubing during storage; do not store with heavy items placed on top.
  • Follow any additional storage recommendations provided by Welch Allyn or the local distributor.
  • Keep out of reach of unauthorised persons and children.
