Professional Electric Dermapen / Skin Needling System
Description
The Dr. Pen A20 is an FDA-cleared, professional-grade microneedling pen engineered for clinical and aesthetic use. Equipped with Advanced Vertical Oscillation System (AVOS) technology, it delivers smooth, precise vertical needle motion at high speed to create controlled micro-injuries in the epidermis and dermis. This stimulates collagen and elastin production and enhances transdermal absorption of active skincare. The A20 features 9 adjustable needle-depth settings from 0 to 2.0 mm in 0.25 mm increments, 6 speed levels up to approximately 7,700 RPM, and a digital LED speed display. Its cordless, rechargeable design (with Type-C charging and a 700 mAh battery) can also be used wired in a salon-grade stand, providing flexibility for busy practices. Using patented LocVent™ anti-backflow cartridges with a medical-grade stainless steel needle array, the A20 offers high performance, hygiene and consistency for treating concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, enlarged pores and hair-loss indications on the scalp.

Usage
- For professional use only: ensure the operator is appropriately trained, licensed and familiar with microneedling protocols and contraindications.
- Charge the device fully using the supplied Type-C cable and adaptor before first use; the LED display will indicate battery status.
- Cleanse the treatment area thoroughly and perform appropriate skin preparation (including makeup removal and antiseptic cleansing).
- Open a sterile, single-use cartridge and attach it to the 3-lock connector of the A20 handpiece, ensuring it clicks and locks securely.
- Adjust the needle depth using the dial at the tip according to the treatment area and indication (e.g. shallower depths for delicate areas like peri-orbital; deeper for cheeks or non-facial areas within protocol limits).
- Press the power button to turn the device on and select the desired speed level using the same control; confirm via the LED display.
- Using gentle, even pressure, glide the pen across the skin in small sections with vertical, horizontal and/or diagonal passes, avoiding staying too long in one area.
- Visually monitor the skin response (e.g. uniform erythema) rather than aiming for bleeding; adjust speed and depth as required within safe limits.
- Apply appropriate sterile serums or solutions during or immediately after treatment to benefit from enhanced transdermal absorption, following product compatibility guidelines.
- After completing a session, switch off the device, remove and safely dispose of the used cartridge and any single-use covers as clinical sharps/waste.
- Clean and disinfect the handpiece and stand surfaces according to manufacturer instructions; do not submerge the device or expose it to excessive moisture.
- Microneedling sessions are typically spaced every 4–6 weeks on the same area to allow adequate healing and collagen remodelling.
- Provide the client with aftercare instructions, including avoiding makeup, excessive sun exposure, saunas, exfoliants and active skincare (retinoids, strong acids) for the recommended period.
Contraindications
- Active skin infections, inflammatory lesions or open wounds in the planned treatment area (e.g. active acne, herpes simplex, impetigo).
- History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring in the treatment region.
- Uncontrolled chronic skin diseases affecting the treatment area (e.g. severe psoriasis, eczema) unless overseen by a dermatologist.
- Bleeding disorders or current use of anticoagulants/antiplatelet medications where microbleeding risk is not acceptable.
- Immunosuppression or systemic conditions that significantly impair wound healing, unless cleared by a physician.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding (often avoided as a precaution in professional practice due to limited safety data).
- Use of oral isotretinoin within a time frame considered unsafe by clinical guidelines for microneedling.
- Known allergy or sensitivity to stainless steel or to any topical agents to be used during treatment.
- Use on areas with skin cancer, pre-malignant lesions, suspicious moles, or over tattoos where not indicated.
Adverse Effects
- Expected transient effects such as erythema, mild swelling, warmth and tightness in the treated area, usually resolving within 24–72 hours.
- Minor pinpoint bleeding during treatment and short-term post-treatment oozing in more aggressive protocols.
- Temporary dryness, flaking or roughness as skin recovers and remodels.
- Occasional bruising or petechiae, especially in thinner or vascular areas.
- Risk of infection if aseptic technique and aftercare are inadequate.
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in darker skin phototypes or when protocols are overly aggressive.
- Rarely, persistent erythema, scarring or textural irregularities if inappropriate depths, excessive passes or poor technique are used.
Storage Conditions
- Store the handpiece and accessories in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Keep the device in its storage box or stand when not in use to protect it from dust and mechanical damage.
- Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures (very high heat or freezing conditions).
- Ensure the device is powered off before storage and keep it out of reach of children and unauthorised users.
- Store unused sterile cartridges in their original, sealed packaging until immediately prior to use; discard any cartridge with damaged or compromised packaging.
Duration
A typical microneedling session with the Dr. Pen A20 takes approximately 20–60 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated. Treatment courses commonly involve a series of 3–6 sessions spaced about 4–6 weeks apart, with maintenance sessions as clinically indicated.
Onset
Mild immediate skin tightening and post-treatment glow can be visible within days after a session due to transient inflammation and increased microcirculation. Structural improvements in fine lines, texture and scarring usually become noticeable after several weeks and continue to develop over multiple sessions as new collagen and elastin form.
