Description
The Welch Allyn 11840-TST-US iExaminer Resolution Test Card is a dedicated calibration accessory for the Welch Allyn iExaminer Pro System. Used with the iExaminer Pro App, iExaminer SmartBracket (11840-IEX-US), and compatible instruments such as the MacroView Plus Otoscope and PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope, the card allows clinicians to verify and document the image resolution and overall image quality of their digital ophthalmic/otoscopic system. By capturing the printed resolution pattern with the iExaminer system, users can confirm that the Axial PointSource™ optics and digital workflow provide the intended wide field-of-view and high-resolution imaging performance in routine practice.
Bnefits
- Provides a standardized resolution target for checking image sharpness and quality of the iExaminer Pro System.
- Helps verify correct alignment, focus and performance of the MacroView Plus Otoscope or PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope when used with the iExaminer SmartBracket and app.
- Supports routine quality control, documentation and troubleshooting of digital ophthalmoscopic and otoscopic imaging.
- Assists in ensuring that wide field-of-view images delivered by PanOptic-style optics maintain the expected level of detail.
- Simple to use in clinic: position the card and capture images via the iExaminer Pro App to assess resolution and contrast.
- Small, lightweight and durable accessory that can be stored with the otoscope/ophthalmoscope and used regularly without significant downtime.
- Non-invasive and non-patient-contact tool, avoiding any additional infection-control burden.
- Compatible across existing Welch Allyn 3.5 V power sources when used with supported instruments, protecting prior investment in Welch Allyn diagnostic platforms.

- Packaged with manufacturer labelling indicating model number (11840-TST-US), description and brand.
- May be shipped within protective secondary packaging (envelope or carton) to prevent bending or surface damage during transport.
Usage
- Refer to the Welch Allyn / Hillrom Instructions for Use (IFU) for the iExaminer Pro System for the detailed test procedure.
- Ensure the associated instrument (MacroView Plus Otoscope or PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope), iExaminer SmartBracket and compatible smart device are correctly assembled and powered.
- Launch the iExaminer Pro App on the smart device and select the appropriate exam or test mode, if available.
- Position the iExaminer Resolution Test Card at the recommended working distance in front of the instrument, in good ambient lighting or using the device’s illumination.
- Focus the instrument on the printed resolution pattern using the normal focusing controls and alignment techniques.
- Capture one or more images of the test card through the iExaminer system and review them on the smart device screen.
- Assess image sharpness, contrast and overall quality across the central and peripheral areas of the captured image to confirm appropriate resolution.
- If resolution is inadequate, follow the troubleshooting guidance in the iExaminer Pro System IFU (e.g., check alignment, focus, lens cleanliness or device setup) and repeat the test.
- Store the card flat and protected from dirt, moisture and physical damage when not in use.
Contraindications
- Not intended for direct diagnostic examination of patients; use only as a test target for image-quality assessment.
- Do not use as a replacement for clinical test charts or patient examination where regulated diagnostic devices are required.
- Not suitable for use in environments where paper or card-based accessories are prohibited due to infection control or contamination policies, unless appropriately protected.
- Do not use if the card surface is heavily worn, faded, soiled or damaged to the extent that resolution patterns are no longer clearly visible.
Adverse Effects
- No direct patient adverse effects are expected when used as intended, as the card does not come into patient contact.
- Improper or infrequent use may contribute indirectly to suboptimal equipment quality control, potentially affecting diagnostic image quality; this is mitigated by following the manufacturer’s QA recommendations.
Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature in a clean, dry environment.
- Protect from moisture, liquids and excessive humidity that could damage the printed surface.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or strong UV light, which may cause fading of the resolution pattern.
- Store flat or in a protective sleeve or folder to prevent bending, creasing or scratching.
- Keep away from aggressive cleaning agents or solvents that could degrade the printed graphics.
Duration
Not applicable; the product is a diagnostic accessory used for intermittent equipment testing and does not directly treat patients.
Onset
Not applicable; image-quality feedback is obtained immediately upon capturing and reviewing test images with the iExaminer system.
