Toxin vial cap opener / mini vial decapper
Description
Kapoff is a small, easy-to-use bottle opener specifically designed as a mini vial decapper for small diameter medicine vials. It safely and quickly removes the crimped metal caps from vials commonly used for botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox, Dysport, Azzalure, Vistabel, Xeomin, Bocouture), insulins and contact lens solutions. The tool is gold in colour in the DD Group configuration and is widely used in aesthetic and medical settings to streamline vial preparation while reducing the effort required to remove metal caps.

Indications

Composition
- Metal vial cap opener (exact metal/alloy not specified by manufacturer)
Formulation
- Non-sterile, reusable mechanical vial cap opener
- Single-piece metal design with lipped edge for levering off crimped metal caps
- Not an injectable product and does not contact the patient directly
Packaging
- Single Kapoff toxin vial cap opener supplied per unit (610238)
- Supplied as a reusable tool (no consumable components described)
Usage
- Use only if it is safe and legal to remove the vial cap and the vial instructions do not prohibit cap removal.
- If a diluent must be added, it is recommended to add it first through the rubber bung with a needle and mix according to the vial instructions before removing the cap.
- If the vial has a coloured plastic cap over the rubber bung, flip off the plastic cap first. Kapoff removes only the crimped metal vial cap.
- Place the Kapoff over the vial cap and ensure the lip of the opener sits just below the crimped edge of the metal cap, not under the glass lip of the vial.
- Using a levering action similar to a traditional bottle opener, gently ease the metal cap off with the lipped edge of the Kapoff.
- Open slowly, as the rubber bung may lift out with the cap; if required, replace the bung by hand once the metal cap is fully removed.
- Avoid aggressive lifting or incorrect positioning of the opener to minimise the risk of damaging the glass vial or spilling contents.
Contraindications
- Do not use to remove vial caps where the vial manufacturer specifically states that the cap must not be removed.
- Do not position the opener under the glass lip of the vial to avoid glass damage.
Adverse Effects
- As with any bottle opener, aggressive lifting of the cap or not following the instructions may result in damage to the glass vial or loss of contents.
