  • Dispose of the used oral syringe (and bottle adaptor if single-use) in accordance with local clinical or household waste policies; do not reuse if supplied as a disposable medical device.
  • Follow any additional instructions provided with the product or required by local clinical protocols.

Contraindications

  • Not for intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous or any other parenteral use; for oral administration only.
  • Do not use if the syringe or its individual wrapper appears damaged, contaminated or compromised.
  • Do not use for measuring or administering medicines that must be given by injection.
  • Do not use if the plunger does not move smoothly or if the graduations on the barrel are illegible.
  • Use with caution in patients at risk of choking or aspiration; dosing should be performed by a responsible adult or trained healthcare professional for children and vulnerable adults.

Adverse Effects

  • No direct adverse effects are expected from the device itself when used correctly, as it is a passive dosing aid.
  • Incorrect use (e.g. delivering the medicine too quickly or directing the stream towards the throat) may increase the risk of coughing or aspiration, especially in small children or frail adults.
  • Inaccurate measurement or misreading of graduations could contribute to under- or overdosing of the medicine being administered.
  • If any difficulty in swallowing, choking, or other adverse events occur during administration, dosing should be stopped immediately and medical advice sought.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a clean, dry environment at normal room temperature.
  • Keep in original outer packaging or storage container until needed to protect individual wraps from dust and contamination.
  • Avoid exposure to excessive heat, direct sunlight or sources of contamination.
  • Keep out of the reach of children until use under appropriate supervision.
  • Do not use after any expiry date indicated on the packaging where applicable.

Duration

Not applicable as a medicinal treatment; the 5 mL oral syringe is used only at the time of administering each oral dose and is then discarded when treated as a disposable device.

Onset

Not applicable; the oral syringe is a delivery device and does not have a pharmacological effect. Onset of effect depends on the medicine administered.
