Reusable blood pressure cuff \u2013 large adult long
Description
The ProBP 2400 Blood Pressure Cuff, Large Adult Long (32–52 cm), is a reusable FlexiPort blood pressure cuff designed specifically for use with the Welch Allyn ProBP 2400 digital blood pressure device. Size 12L (large adult long) accommodates arm circumferences from 32 to 52 cm, making it suitable for larger adult patients. The cuff features a durable nylon outer material, a 2-tube configuration for connection to the ProBP 2400, and a hook-and-loop (Velcro) closure. Colour-coded in burgundy for easy size identification, the cuff is latex-free to reduce the risk of allergic reactions and is built for repeated clinical use in hospitals, clinics and primary care practices.
Bnefits
- Reusable large adult long cuff specifically configured for the Welch Allyn ProBP 2400 device.
- Wide size range (32–52 cm) suitable for larger adult arm circumferences.
- FlexiPort style connection simplifies attachment to compatible Welch Allyn systems and helps standardise cuffs across devices.
- Durable nylon construction designed for repeated clinical use and frequent cleaning.
- Hook-and-loop closure allows quick application and removal while helping ensure a secure, comfortable fit.
- 2-tube design provides reliable connection for accurate oscillometric blood pressure measurements.
- Latex-free materials minimise the risk of latex-related allergic reactions for patients and staff.
- Colour-coded (burgundy) and clearly size-marked for rapid identification and correct cuff selection.
- Supports accurate readings by providing an appropriately sized cuff for larger adult patients, in line with hypertension guidelines.
- Cost-effective over time compared with single-use cuffs due to its reusable design.
Indications
- Non-invasive blood pressure monitoring in larger adult patients with arm circumferences between 32 and 52 cm.
- Use with the Welch Allyn ProBP 2400 digital blood pressure device in hospitals, clinics, GP surgeries, outpatient departments and other healthcare settings.
- Routine and follow-up blood pressure assessment in primary care, specialty clinics and occupational health services.
- Clinical environments where a reusable, easily cleaned large adult cuff is required to support frequent BP measurement.
Composition
- Outer cuff shell: woven nylon fabric.
- Inner bladder: synthetic elastomer bladder suitable for repeated inflation/deflation.
- Fastening: hook-and-loop (Velcro) closure strip.
- Tubing: flexible synthetic rubber/plastic dual tubes for connection to the ProBP 2400.
- Connector: FlexiPort-style connection compatible with Welch Allyn ProBP 2400 systems.
- Latex-free construction (no natural rubber latex intentionally added).
Formulation
- Reusable, non-sterile blood pressure cuff for upper arm application.
- Size 12L (large adult long) with circumference range 32–52 cm.
- 2-tube configuration for use with the ProBP 2400 digital BP device.
- Hook-and-loop closure system for adjustable fit and secure positioning.
- Burgundy colour and printed size markings for easy identification.
- FlexiPort connection design intended to simplify cuff/device compatibility within the Welch Allyn ecosystem.
Packaging
- Supplied as one (1) reusable blood pressure cuff per pack.
- Individually packaged in manufacturer-labelled packaging indicating model ProBP 2400, size 12L large adult long (32–52 cm) and part number REUSE-12L-2400.
- Outer shipping cartons contain multiple individually packaged cuffs for institutional orders.
- Pack labelling typically includes size range, user type (adult), colour, cuff material, latex-free designation and device compatibility.
Usage
- Use only with compatible Welch Allyn ProBP 2400 digital blood pressure devices, following the device operator’s manual.
- Select the cuff size by confirming the patient’s arm circumference is within the 32–52 cm range indicated on the cuff.
- Wrap the cuff snugly around the bare upper arm (or over a thin sleeve if local protocol allows), positioning the artery marker over the brachial artery as indicated on the cuff.
- Ensure the cuff edge is positioned according to device guidelines (typically 2–3 cm above the antecubital fossa) and that the cuff is neither too tight nor too loose.
- Connect the cuff’s tubing to the ProBP 2400 device using the appropriate FlexiPort connection, ensuring a secure, leak-free fit.
- Position the patient and arm according to standard BP measurement guidelines (e.g. arm supported at heart level, patient seated and rested) before starting the measurement.
- Start the measurement using the ProBP 2400 controls and allow the cuff to inflate and deflate automatically.
- After the reading, remove the cuff from the patient and inspect it periodically for signs of wear, damage or contamination.
- Clean and disinfect the cuff between patients according to Welch Allyn’s instructions and local infection-control policy (typically wiping with an approved disinfectant and allowing to dry).
- Replace the cuff if the bladder, tubing, connectors or closure show damage, leakage, poor adhesion or do not pass functional checks.
Contraindications
- Do not use on patients with arm circumference outside the specified 32–52 cm range; select an appropriately sized cuff instead.
- Use with caution, or avoid placement, on limbs with arteriovenous fistulas, intravenous lines, severe injury, burns or lymphedema in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Do not use on areas with open wounds, active skin infections or significant dermatologic conditions without clinical justification.
- Do not use if the cuff, bladder, tubing or connectors are visibly damaged, leaking, excessively worn or contaminated.
- Not intended for invasive blood pressure monitoring or for use on neonates, infants or paediatric patients.
Adverse Effects
- Temporary discomfort or mild pain during inflation, particularly at higher pressures or with repeated measurements.
- Transient petechiae, erythema or minor bruising at the cuff site, especially in patients with fragile skin or coagulopathy.
- If applied too tightly or left inflated for prolonged periods, potential for impaired circulation or nerve compression in the limb.
- Allergic or sensitivity reactions are unlikely due to latex-free construction, but individual reactions to materials or cleaning agents are possible.
- Inaccurate readings may occur if the cuff size is inappropriate, placement is incorrect or the cuff is damaged or leaking.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry environment at room temperature away from direct sunlight and sources of excessive heat.
- Avoid folding or sharply creasing the cuff bladder; store loosely rolled or flat according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Keep away from oils, solvents and harsh chemicals that may degrade nylon, rubber or plastic components.
- Do not place heavy objects on top of the cuff or tubing, which could cause kinks or permanent deformation.
- Ensure the cuff is completely dry after cleaning and disinfection before storage to prevent degradation or odour.
- Store separately from soiled or contaminated devices to maintain hygiene.
Duration
Not applicable as a treatment; the cuff is used only during the blood pressure measurement cycle (typically less than one minute per reading) and is then removed. Service life extends over many uses, dependent on wear, cleaning practices and manufacturer guidance.
Onset
Provides correct sizing and pressure transmission immediately upon proper placement and connection; supports accurate blood pressure measurement during each inflation cycle.
