Power handle spare part for 3.5 V otoscope/ophthalmoscope system
Description
The Repair Battery Handle for 719-3 (Welch Allyn part 719-BATT) is a replacement lithium-ion battery handle section designed specifically for the Welch Allyn 719-3 Lithium Ion Plus USB Power Handle. It replaces the battery handle portion of the 719 series handle used to power Welch Allyn 3.5 V instrument heads such as otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes and other diagnostic heads. The repair handle incorporates the rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack and lightweight CYCOLOY engineering resin housing used in the original 719 series handle, restoring runtime and reliability when the original battery handle section is worn or defective. It is intended as a service/repair component to extend the life of existing Welch Allyn MacroView and related diagnostic systems without replacing the entire handle assembly.
Bnefits
- Purpose-built replacement battery handle section for the Welch Allyn 719-3 Lithium Ion Plus Power Handle, helping restore full performance without buying a complete new handle.
- Compatible with Welch Allyn 3.5 V instrument heads when installed as part of a 719-3 handle, providing a reliable power source for otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes and other diagnostic heads.
- Lithium-ion battery technology offers longer on-time compared with traditional NiCad handles and has no "memory" effect when charged correctly.
- Lightweight CYCOLOY engineering resin housing makes the assembled handle roughly half the weight of traditional metal 3.5 V handles, improving clinician comfort during prolonged use.
- Designed as an OEM service part from the original manufacturer, ensuring correct fit, electrical compatibility and safety when used according to the instructions for use.
- Supports sustainable lifecycle management of Welch Allyn diagnostic systems by enabling cost-effective repair instead of full handle replacement.
Indications
- Replacement of a worn out, damaged or non-functioning battery handle section on a Welch Allyn 719-3 Lithium Ion Plus Power Handle.
- Use as a service part in medical facilities to maintain availability of Welch Allyn 3.5 V diagnostic instrument systems.
- Situations where runtime or charging performance of an existing 719-3 handle has deteriorated and restoration of original performance is required.
- Preventive maintenance or refurbishment of Welch Allyn MacroView and similar diagnostic systems that rely on the 719 series lithium-ion handle for power.
Composition
- Housing made from sturdy CYCOLOY engineering resin (lightweight, impact-resistant plastic) as specified for 719 series lithium-ion handles.
- Integrated rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack sized for 3.5 V diagnostic instrument power (exact cell specification internal to OEM).
- Internal electronic circuitry for battery management, low-battery indication and power delivery to the upper handle section.
- Metallic electrical contacts and mechanical interface compatible with the upper portion of the Welch Allyn 719-3 handle and associated charging accessories.
Formulation
- Non-sterile, reusable lithium-ion power handle section (repair component) for 3.5 V diagnostic instrument systems.
- Designed to mate with the Welch Allyn 719-3 Lithium Ion Plus USB Power Handle upper module and with compatible chargers (e.g. 71943 charging base, 71950 AC charging accessory, 71955 USB charging accessory, 7114X desk charger, depending on configuration).
- Provides regulated low-voltage DC power from an internal lithium-ion battery to Welch Allyn 3.5 V instrument heads via the complete 719-3 handle assembly.
- Includes a low-battery indication function when assembled into the full 719 series handle.
Packaging
- Supplied as a single OEM repair battery handle section (part 719-BATT) intended for use with the Welch Allyn 719-3 handle.
- Individually boxed with manufacturer labelling indicating part number 719-BATT, product description (Repair Battery Handle for 719-3), brand and basic handling information.
- No diagnostic heads or upper USB/charging modules are included; these are supplied separately as part of the complete 719-3 handle or other accessories.
Usage
- For professional servicing only: The Repair Battery Handle for 719-3 is an OEM service component intended to be installed by appropriately trained biomedical technicians or service personnel familiar with Welch Allyn equipment.
- Before installation, switch off and disconnect the existing 719-3 handle from any charging accessories or instrument heads.
- Remove the worn or defective battery handle section from the upper portion of the 719-3 handle according to Welch Allyn service instructions.
- Attach the new 719-BATT repair battery handle section securely to the upper handle/USB module, ensuring that mechanical and electrical connections are fully engaged.
- Charge the assembled handle fully in a compatible Welch Allyn charger (such as the 71943 charging base, 71950 AC charging accessory, 71955 USB charging accessory or 7114X desk charger, according to the handle configuration) before first clinical use, following the 719 series handle instructions for use.
- After charging, attach the appropriate Welch Allyn 3.5 V instrument head (otoscope, ophthalmoscope, etc.) to the handle and verify correct operation, including illumination and low-battery indication.
- Use, cleaning and routine charging of the handle should follow the instructions in the Welch Allyn 719 Series Lithium Ion Handle user manual; do not autoclave the handle or immerse it in liquids.
- If the repair handle or the assembled 719-3 handle shows signs of physical damage, overheating, fluid ingress or other malfunction, remove it from service and contact technical support or the manufacturer.
Contraindications
- Do not use the handle or repair component if it is visibly damaged, cracked, deformed or shows evidence of fluid ingress.
- Not intended for use with non-Welch Allyn instrument heads or incompatible charging systems.
- Do not use in the presence of flammable anaesthetics or in oxygen-enriched environments where sparking components could present a risk, unless equipment is explicitly approved for such use.
- Use only in accordance with the Welch Allyn 719 Series handle instructions for use; misuse or modification may compromise electrical safety or performance.
Adverse Effects
- Under normal conditions of use, no direct patient adverse effects are anticipated beyond those associated with standard use of 3.5 V diagnostic instruments.
- Improper maintenance, damage or incorrect charging could theoretically lead to overheating of the handle, presenting a burn or fire hazard; any unusual heat, odour or deformation should prompt immediate removal from service.
- If used with damaged insulation or cracked housing, there may be a risk of electrical shock; handles in this condition must not be used.
Storage Conditions
- Store the unused repair handle in its original packaging in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight.
- Observe the storage temperature and humidity ranges specified for the 719 series lithium-ion handle (commonly approximately -20°C to 55°C for storage and transport, with humidity up to 95% non-condensing).
- Avoid mechanical shock, crushing or puncture of the handle, which could damage the lithium-ion battery.
- Do not store the handle in proximity to strong magnetic fields or sources of excessive heat.
- Follow local regulations for long-term storage and eventual disposal of lithium-ion powered medical device components.
