Venous blood collection tube \u2014 serum gel with clotting activator

Description

S-Monovette® Serum Gel CAT 4.9 ml is a sterile venous blood collection tube (90 x 13 mm) containing a clotting activator and a separating gel. It uses a membrane screw cap (brown/EU colour code) and is supplied with a paper label. The tube is intended for serum collection and subsequent centrifugation for clinical chemistry and serology testing, providing a stable barrier between clot/cells and serum after centrifugation.

Bnefits

  • Pre-dosed clotting activator plus separation gel forms a stable serum barrier after centrifugation for improved sample quality
  • Membrane screw cap provides a liquid-tight closure and compatibility with S-Monovette handling systems
  • Sterile, electron-irradiation sterilised and batched packaging for traceability
  • Standard 90 x 13 mm geometry for compatibility with laboratory automation and centrifuges

Indications

  • Collection of venous blood for serum preparation and subsequent laboratory analysis (clinical chemistry, serology) following clotting and centrifugation

Composition

  • Tube material: Polypropylene (PP) — transparent tube body
  • Cap/closure: High-density polyethylene (HD-PE) screw cap (brown)
  • Membrane material: Rubber (membrane screw cap)
  • Additives: Clotting activator (coagulation activator) and polyacrylate/polyacrylester separating gel (proprietary gel formulation)

Formulation

  • Sterile, single-use blood collection tube with clotting activator and separating gel; membrane screw cap closure; fill mark / graduation indicated; nominal sample volume 4.9 ml

Packaging

  • Pack size: 50 sterile tubes per box (batched; carton labelling includes lot and expiry information)

Usage

  • Collect venous blood into the tube using appropriate S-Monovette collection technique or compatible systems.
  • Allow blood to clot (typical clotting time with clot activator), then centrifuge at recommended conditions to obtain separated serum (refer to laboratory SOP/IFU).
  • Follow Sarstedt Instructions for Use (IFU) and local laboratory protocols for handling, storage, transport and disposal.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if sterile packaging is damaged or sterility is compromised.
  • Not intended for tests requiring anticoagulated whole blood (use appropriate anticoagulant tube instead).

Adverse Effects

  • Device-related risks are typical of venepuncture (e.g., haemolysis if improper technique is used); improper handling or delayed processing may affect sample integrity and test results.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight; follow carton/IFU for specific storage temperature and shelf-life information.

Duration

Not applicable (single-use diagnostic collection device)

Onset

Clotting occurs within minutes after collection with clot activator; serum separation achieved after recommended centrifugation (refer to IFU for specific centrifugation parameters).
