6V power transformer for sigmoidoscope/anoscope illumination system
Description
The Welch Allyn 6V Power Source-IEC 230–250V (REF 73324) is an external 6.0 V power transformer designed to provide low-voltage power to the illumination system used with Welch Allyn rigid sigmoidoscopes, anoscopes and the Rectal Light Handle. It converts mains input (IEC 230–250 V AC, 50–60 Hz) to approximately 6.0 V DC for safe operation of the associated rectal light handle and illumination accessories, enabling bright, consistent light output during lower GI endoscopic examinations. The 73324 model is one of a family of Welch Allyn 6V power supplies (73305, 73322, 73324, 73326) listed in the official instructions for use as compatible power sources for the Rectal Light Handle and related endoscopy products.

Packaging
- Single 6V Power Source-IEC 230–250V (REF 73324) per unit
- Supplied as an OEM accessory or spare in labelled packaging identifying manufacturer (Welch Allyn / Hillrom) and reference number 73324
- May include a brief instruction or reference sheet pointing to the main device Instructions for Use for connection and safety information
Usage
- Use only with compatible Welch Allyn devices as specified in the official Instructions for Use (e.g. Rectal Light Handle and associated sigmoidoscope/anoscope systems).
- Before connection, ensure the power supply, rectal light handle and endoscopic device are all undamaged and that cables and connectors are intact.
- Plug the 6V Power Source (REF 73324) into an appropriate 230–250 V AC mains outlet that meets local electrical standards.
- Connect the low-voltage output plug of the 73324 power source to the mating connector on the Rectal Light Handle or illumination cord, ensuring a secure fit as described in the device Instructions for Use.
- Once connected, the lamp in the rectal light handle should illuminate immediately; to switch off illumination, disconnect the rectal light handle from the power supply as directed in the IFU.
- Avoid routing the power cord where it may be pinched, damaged or create a tripping hazard; keep cables clear of moving equipment and sharp edges.
- If the lamp fails to light, follow the troubleshooting steps in the Rectal Light Handle or sigmoidoscope/anoscope user manual (e.g. verify mains power, check for faulty lamp, inspect connectors).
- Do not modify the power source, change connectors or use it to power any device other than those specified by Welch Allyn.
- Installation, inspection and testing of the power output (e.g. verification of 6.0 V DC at the cord end) should be performed only by appropriately trained personnel, as indicated in the IFU.
Contraindications
- Do not use with devices other than those specified by Welch Allyn (e.g. non-compatible endoscopes or non-Welch Allyn equipment).
- Do not use if the power source housing, mains plug, low-voltage cable or connector shows signs of damage, cracking, fraying or overheating.
- Do not use with mains outlets outside the specified 230–250 V AC input range.
- Do not use in environments where there is significant risk of liquid ingress into the power supply or where it may be exposed to flammable anaesthetic mixtures, unless expressly allowed by the device documentation and local regulations.
Adverse Effects
- As a non-patient-contact accessory, direct clinical adverse effects are not expected when the device is used correctly.
- Improper use, damage or connection to an incorrect mains supply could result in device malfunction or failure of illumination during a procedure.
- In extreme cases, use of a faulty or unsuitable power supply could pose an electrical hazard (e.g. risk of shock or overheating) if safety instructions are ignored.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry indoor environment when not connected to equipment.
- Avoid exposure to excessive heat, moisture, dust or direct sunlight that could degrade the plastic housing or internal components.
- Do not sharply bend, crush or tightly coil the output cable; loosely coil the cable to prevent damage to internal conductors.
- Keep away from corrosive chemicals, solvents or sterilising fluids; follow the cleaning guidance in the reprocessing instructions where applicable to the power cord.
- When not in use for extended periods, disconnect from mains power and store with associated Welch Allyn endoscopic equipment or spare parts inventory according to local procedures.
Duration
Not applicable; this product is a power accessory used to supply continuous 6.0 V power to compatible Welch Allyn devices during examinations or procedures.
