Thermometer calibration key / accessory
Description
The Calibration Key for SureTemp 690/692 Thermometers is an original Welch Allyn (SureTemp) accessory designed to verify the calibration accuracy of SureTemp Plus 690 and 692 electronic thermometers. The key connects in place of the standard probe and presents a fixed reference value so the thermometer can be checked against a known temperature (36.3 °C / 97.3 °F). It is recommended that the instrument be tested at least annually, or whenever its clinical accuracy is in doubt. This single-piece, solid-state key is supplied as OEM part number 06138-000 and is used in clinics, hospitals, and other care environments to help ensure reliable temperature measurements and maintain compliance with quality and audit requirements.
Bnefits
- Provides a quick and simple method to verify calibration of Welch Allyn SureTemp Plus 690 and 692 thermometers using a fixed reference temperature.
- Helps ensure accurate and reliable temperature readings, supporting patient safety and clinical decision-making.
- Recommended for annual verification and any time thermometer accuracy is questioned, aligning with good equipment maintenance and audit practices.
- OEM accessory (part number 06138-000) designed specifically for SureTemp Plus thermometers, ensuring full compatibility.
- Solid-state electronic key with no moving parts, offering robust performance and minimal maintenance requirements.
- Easy step-by-step procedure that can be carried out by clinical or biomedical staff without specialised test benches.
- Supports compliance with internal quality-control protocols and external accreditation requirements related to device calibration checks.
Indications
- Verification of calibration accuracy for Welch Allyn SureTemp Plus 690 and 692 thermometers in clinical practice.
- Routine annual calibration checks as part of equipment maintenance schedules.
- Additional calibration verification whenever the clinical accuracy of a SureTemp 690/692 thermometer is in question (e.g. suspicious readings, after repair, or after physical impact).
- Use by clinical engineering/biomedical teams and designated staff responsible for device quality assurance.
Composition
- Solid-state electronic calibration key assembly designed for use with SureTemp Plus 690/692 thermometers.
- Moulded housing with integrated electrical connector compatible with the SureTemp probe port.
- Internal fixed-value electronic reference circuit that presents a known temperature value to the thermometer electronics.
- Non-patient-contact component; intended solely as an equipment accessory.
Formulation
- Non-sterile, non-invasive mechanical/electronic accessory used for calibration verification of compatible digital thermometers.
Packaging
- Supplied as a single calibration key assembly (one per pack).
- Typically boxed or blister-packed with identification labelling (Welch Allyn / SureTemp, part number 06138-000) and basic usage information.
- May be accompanied by a calibration certificate depending on supplier and batch.
Usage
- Use only with compatible Welch Allyn SureTemp Plus 690 and 692 thermometers.
- 1. Remove any probe currently connected to the SureTemp Plus thermometer.
- 2. Connect the SureTemp Calibration Key firmly into the probe port.
- 3. Wait approximately one minute for the device to enter Monitor mode and display the temperature.
- 4. Verify that the displayed temperature reads 36.3 °C ± 0.1 °C or 97.3 °F ± 0.2 °F.
- 5. If the reading is within the specified range, the device calibration is verified; if it falls outside this range, follow your organisation’s procedure for further testing, adjustment or service.
- 6. Remove the SureTemp Calibration Key.
- 7. Reconnect the original probe to the thermometer before returning it to clinical use.
- It is recommended that each SureTemp 690/692 thermometer be tested at least annually, and additionally whenever there is reason to suspect inaccuracy (e.g. after repair, dropping the device, or unusual clinical readings).
Contraindications
- Not for use with thermometers other than Welch Allyn SureTemp Plus 690/692 models unless explicitly specified by the manufacturer.
- Not a clinical thermometer or patient-contact device; must not be used for measuring patient temperature.
- Do not attempt to modify, open or repair the calibration key; damage may invalidate calibration and lead to incorrect test results.
Adverse Effects
- No direct patient adverse effects are expected, as the device is not used on patients.
- Incorrect use or reliance on a damaged or incompatible calibration key may lead to misinterpretation of thermometer performance and potential ongoing use of an inaccurately reading thermometer.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry environment at normal room temperature.
- Protect from excessive moisture, dust, and direct sunlight.
- Avoid mechanical shock, crushing, or dropping the key, which could damage the internal reference circuitry.
- Keep with the thermometer accessories or in a designated biomedical/equipment storage area to prevent loss.
