Couch accessory / hand control
Description
The Linak Handswitch 3 is a six-button electric hand control designed for triple motor Plinth Medical couches. Connecting via a round DIN plug to the LINAK actuator control system, it allows easy adjustment of three powered couch functions (typically couch height and two movable sections). Intended as an original spare or replacement part for compatible Plinth couches, it offers convenient, intuitive control of couch positioning from the therapist or clinician’s working position.
Bnefits
- Six-button handset enables control of three separate motors (e.g. overall couch height and two section movements) from a single hand control.
- Provides quick, convenient couch adjustments from the clinician’s working position.
- Improves workflow and ergonomics compared with manual couch adjustment.
- Designed specifically for triple motor Plinth Medical couches using LINAK actuator systems.
- Round DIN plug connection allows straightforward connection and replacement on compatible couches.
- Supplied as a dedicated spare part for maintaining and extending the service life of powered couches.
Indications
- Electric control of triple motor Plinth Medical couches in clinical, therapy, examination, podiatry or treatment environments.
- Replacement or additional handswitch for existing Plinth couches fitted with LINAK triple motor actuator systems.
- Situations where convenient, hand-operated adjustment of couch position is preferred.
Composition
- Ergonomic plastic handset housing with integrated buttons.
- Six momentary push-button switches for motor control.
- Flexible electrical cable suitable for medical furniture applications.
- Round DIN plug connector compatible with Plinth/LINAK control ports.
- Internal wiring and contacts matched to LINAK actuator control requirements.

Packaging
- Supplied as a single Linak Handswitch 3 handset with attached cable and round DIN plug.
- Packaged in protective manufacturer or distributor packaging (e.g. carton box with padding) for safe transport.
Usage
- Ensure the couch is switched off and isolated from mains power before connecting or replacing the handswitch, in line with local safety procedures.
- Locate the appropriate round DIN control socket on the triple motor Plinth couch and insert the Linak Handswitch 3 plug firmly until fully engaged.
- Restore power to the couch and test each button to confirm that all three motors respond correctly (e.g. height and section movements) before use with a patient.
- Use the handset buttons to adjust couch height and section positions as configured by the couch model, always ensuring patient comfort and safety during movement.
- Do not use the handset if the casing, cable or plug is damaged, or if operation appears intermittent or unreliable; arrange inspection or replacement instead.
- Clean the external surfaces periodically using a soft cloth and a suitable medical-grade cleaning or disinfectant solution; do not immerse the handset or cable in liquid.
- Route the cable to minimise trip hazards and avoid trapping or crushing under couch castors or mechanisms.
- Only qualified service personnel should undertake repairs or internal inspection of the handset and associated electrical systems.
Contraindications
- Not suitable for use with non-compatible couches or non-LINAK-based actuator systems.
- Must not be used if the cable, plug or housing is visibly damaged or if signs of electrical malfunction are present.
- Not designed for use in explosive atmospheres or environments requiring specially certified electrical equipment unless explicitly stated by the manufacturer.
Adverse Effects
- Incorrect installation or use with incompatible equipment may cause loss of control or unexpected couch movement.
- Damage to the cable or plug could pose electrical safety risks if the unit is not removed from service.
- Improper cable management may present a trip hazard for staff or patients.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a clean, dry location when not connected to a couch.
- Avoid excessive moisture, dust, corrosive agents or direct heat sources.
- Do not place heavy objects on top of the handset or cable during storage.
- Maintain storage within the temperature and humidity limits recommended for the associated Plinth couch and LINAK control system.
- Protect the DIN plug against impact, contamination and bending of pins by using protective caps or packaging as appropriate.
