Electric rehabilitation tilt table / therapy couch
Description
The Plinth 2000 Premier Tilt Table (Plinth Medical Model 511+) is a UK-designed and manufactured electric rehabilitation tilt table for patients requiring supported standing or tilt procedures. It provides electric height and tilt adjustment with hand control, a safe working load and lifting capacity of 250 kg, battery backup for operation during mains failure, and a manual emergency override to return the patient to a horizontal position without power. The table includes patient handgrips, a set of harnesses, divided patient footboard, deep pressure-relieving foam upholstery with antimicrobial Multistretch vinyl, and a twin-wheel central locking castor system. Upholstery dimensions are approximately 200 cm (length) x 85 cm (width) with an electric height range of 55–97 cm.
Bnefits
- Supports rehabilitation of patients requiring graded tilt and supported standing, including post-stroke, long-term illness and neurological conditions.
- Safe working load and lifting capacity of 250 kg, allowing treatment of very heavy patients with stability and safety.
- Electric height and tilt operation via hand control simplifies positioning and reduces manual handling demands on staff.
- Battery backup ensures continued operation in the event of mains power failure.
- Manual emergency override allows safe lowering of the tilted patient without mains or battery power.
- Lifetime frame guarantee and 5-year parts guarantee provide long-term reliability and cost-effectiveness.
- Central locking twin-wheel castor system enables easy movement and precise positioning of the table.
- Deep foam upholstery and pressure-relieving, antimicrobial vinyl enhance patient comfort and help reduce infection transmission risk.
- Divided patient footboard, height-adjustable hand grips and set of patient harnesses improve patient security during tilt.
- Tilts up to 90° to facilitate patient walk-off procedures when clinically appropriate.
Indications
- Use in hospitals, rehabilitation units and clinics for patients requiring graded tilt and supported standing.
- Rehabilitation of patients recovering from long-term illness, stroke, head injury and various physical disabilities (as assessed by a clinician).
- Assisting weight-bearing, standing tolerance and circulation in patients with limited mobility.
- Tilt-table procedures where controlled changes in patient position are required for therapy or assessment, under professional supervision.
- Use as a versatile therapy couch where electric height and tilt adjustment improve access and ergonomics for clinicians.
Composition
- Heavy-duty steel frame construction designed for a safe working load and lifting capacity of 250 kg.
- Deep foam upholstery on the patient surface for comfort and pressure relief.
- Multistretch, phthalate-free vinyl upholstery with antimicrobial additive, flame retardant to CRIB 5 (BS 5852 / BS 7176).
- Foam flame retardant to BS 5852: Part 2: 1982, Ignition Source 5 (CRIB 5).
- Twin-wheel central locking castor system (typically 125 mm castors) for mobility and stability.
- Electric actuators and control system conforming to IEC 60601-1 electrical safety standard.
- Battery backup module and hand control with integrated battery level indicator.
Formulation
- Electrically operated, steel-framed medical tilt table with integrated electric height and tilt actuators.
- Upholstered patient platform with deep foam padding and antimicrobial Multistretch vinyl upholstery.
- Dual adjustable patient footboards and divided footboard configuration as standard.
- Supplied with three patient harnesses, a pair of height-adjustable hand grips and angle inclinometers on both sides.
- Central-locking twin wheel system for ease of movement and secure positioning.
- UKCA and CE-marked Class I medical device under EU MDR 2017/745 Annex VIII and UK MDR 2002.
Packaging
- Delivered as a fully assembled or partially assembled couch (according to local logistics) ready for installation in the treatment room.
- Supplied with patient handgrips, set of patient harnesses, dual/divided footboards and central locking castors as standard features.
- Includes manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU), technical datasheet and warranty information.

Usage
- For professional use only in clinical or rehabilitation environments by trained healthcare staff familiar with tilt-table procedures.
- Before use, ensure mains power is connected and/or the battery backup is adequately charged, and check that all castors are locked when the table is in use.
- Position the patient on the upholstery surface, adjust patient handgrips to a comfortable height, and secure the supplied harnesses according to the manufacturer’s instructions and clinical protocol.
- Use the hand control to adjust table height to a safe working level for staff, then gradually tilt the table to the desired angle, monitoring the patient’s clinical status throughout.
- Use angle inclinometers to record tilt angles for reference and repeatability of procedures.
- In the event of mains power failure, continue to operate the table using the battery backup as specified by the manufacturer.
- In an emergency where electric power is unavailable or insufficient, use the manual emergency override handle to return the patient safely to a horizontal position.
- After use, return the table to a safe horizontal position, lower the height if required, remove and clean harnesses and surfaces in accordance with infection control policies and the vinyl care instructions.
- Regularly inspect the couch, harnesses, castors and electrical cables for signs of wear or damage, and arrange servicing via Plinth Medical’s recommended service schedule.
Contraindications
- Use with patients who are unsuitable for tilt-table or supported standing procedures due to unstable cardiovascular status, severe orthostatic intolerance, or other serious medical conditions, unless specifically cleared by a responsible clinician.
- Patients with unstable fractures, spinal instability or conditions where changes in position or weight-bearing are contraindicated.
- Patients who cannot be safely secured with harnesses or who cannot tolerate the necessary restraints required for safe tilt.
- Use in environments where electrical medical equipment is not permitted or where the required electrical safety standards cannot be met.
- Use by untrained personnel or outside a supervised clinical setting.
Adverse Effects
- Potential dizziness, light-headedness or hypotension in some patients during tilt procedures, particularly when moving to higher tilt angles.
- Discomfort or anxiety in patients who are not accustomed to being restrained or tilted; appropriate clinical monitoring and reassurance are required.
- Risk of falls or injury if harnesses, hand grips or footboards are not correctly adjusted and secured, or if castors are not locked during use.
- Risk of musculoskeletal strain to staff if safe manual handling and height-adjustment practices are not followed.
- Electrical or mechanical malfunction could theoretically occur; equipment should be regularly serviced and maintained according to manufacturer recommendations.
Storage Conditions
- Keep the tilt table indoors in a dry, clean clinical environment within the temperature and humidity limits specified by the manufacturer.
- Ensure the floor surface is suitable for the twin-wheel castors and that the area around the couch is kept clear to allow safe movement and positioning.
- When not in active use, disconnect from mains power if recommended by the manufacturer and leave the table in a low, horizontal position with castors locked.
- Clean and disinfect upholstery and accessories regularly using cleaning agents compatible with the Multistretch vinyl and foam, following the manufacturer’s guidance.
- Do not expose the table to corrosive chemicals, excessive moisture, or mechanical impact that could damage the frame, actuators, castors or upholstery.
Duration
Duration of use per patient depends on clinical protocol and indication; tilt procedures or supported standing sessions commonly range from approximately 15 to 60 minutes as determined by the supervising clinician.
Onset
Provides immediate positional support and tilt capability as soon as the patient is secured and the table is operated; therapeutic outcomes (e.g. improved standing tolerance or circulation) depend on the overall rehabilitation programme and clinical use over time.
