Microscope Saddle Chair

Description

The Plinth Medical Premium Microscope Saddle Chair (Model 1024) is a specialist ergonomic clinical chair designed for working at microscopes and similar equipment. It features a saddle-shaped seat, adjustable armrests, height- and angle-adjustable backrest and seat tilt to optimise posture during prolonged seated tasks. The standard model offers a height range of 47–61 cm and is mounted on a stable five-point wheeled base with healthcare-grade vinyl upholstery available in multiple colours.

Bnefits

  • Saddle-shaped seat encourages a more open hip angle and upright posture during prolonged seated work.
  • Adjustable armrests provide forearm support for fine, repetitive tasks such as microscopy and precision procedures.
  • Height- and angle-adjustable backrest supports the spine and can be tailored to the user’s preferred working position.
  • Seat tilt adjustment allows further optimisation of pelvic and lumbar alignment to reduce musculoskeletal strain.
  • Standard height range of 47–61 cm is suitable for use with most laboratory benches, microscopes and clinical workstations.
  • Five-point wheeled base offers stability while allowing smooth movement around equipment and patients.
  • Healthcare-grade vinyl upholstery is hard-wearing and easy to clean, supporting infection prevention protocols.
  • Designed specifically for clinical environments where staff are seated for long periods, helping to improve comfort and productivity.

Indications

  • Clinician and technician seating in laboratories and diagnostic departments using microscopes or similar equipment.
  • Use in ophthalmology, pathology, dentistry and other specialties requiring precision seated work with arm support.
  • Aesthetic and dermatology clinics where practitioners perform detailed procedures and benefit from arm and back support.
  • General clinical and hospital environments requiring ergonomic saddle seating for staff who sit for extended periods.
  • Educational or research facilities using microscopes and optical instruments where ergonomic seating is required.

Packaging

  • Supplied as one Premium Microscope Saddle Chair - Standard (Model 1024).
  • Configuration typically includes saddle seat, backrest, armrests, gas column, five-point base and castors.
  • Delivered direct from manufacturer or distributor; may require minor assembly such as fitting the gas column and base according to instructions.
  • Pack quantity: 1 chair.

Usage

  • Place the chair on a clean, level and stable floor surface in the clinical or laboratory area.
  • Adjust the seat height within the 47–61 cm range using the gas lift control so that the user’s feet are flat on the floor (or suitable footrest) and thighs are comfortably angled downward in the saddle position.
  • Set the seat tilt to achieve a comfortable pelvic position that supports an upright spine while allowing ease of forward reach to the microscope or work surface.
  • Adjust the backrest height and angle so that it supports the lumbar and mid-back area without restricting upper body movement.
  • Configure the armrests for the task: adjust height, width and position so that forearms are comfortably supported when working with microscopes or instruments, avoiding shoulder elevation or excessive reach.
  • Before starting work, check that all adjustment levers are securely tightened and that the chair rolls smoothly without wobble.
  • Clean the vinyl upholstery and hard surfaces between users or when visibly soiled using approved clinical detergents or disinfectant wipes compatible with healthcare vinyl.
  • Periodically inspect upholstery, armrests, backrest, gas column, mechanisms and castors for wear or damage; remove from service and arrange maintenance or replacement if any safety issues are identified.

Contraindications

  • Do not use the chair if there is visible structural damage, instability, or malfunction of the gas-lift or adjustment mechanisms.
  • Not suitable for use on uneven, excessively sloped or highly slippery flooring where stability and braking of castors may be compromised.
  • Should not be used by individuals whose body weight exceeds the manufacturer’s recommended safe working load (if specified in accompanying documentation).
  • Not intended for use as a step, ladder or patient support surface.

Adverse Effects

  • Improper adjustment of seat height, tilt, backrest or armrests may contribute to discomfort or musculoskeletal strain during prolonged use.
  • Use on unsuitable or cluttered flooring may increase the risk of tipping or uncontrolled rolling.
  • Worn or damaged castors or mechanisms can reduce stability and may lead to sudden movements or loss of support.
  • Inadequate cleaning or use of harsh, incompatible cleaning agents may degrade upholstery or finishes over time.

Storage Conditions

  • Use and store indoors in a dry clinical, laboratory or office environment.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or strong heat sources that could fade or degrade vinyl and plastic components.
  • Do not stack heavy items on the seat or backrest to prevent permanent deformation of the foam and upholstery.
  • When not in use for extended periods, park the chair in a clean, dry area away from escape routes and moving equipment.

Duration

Not applicable \u2013 ergonomic seating product; used for the duration of microscope or clinical tasks as required.

Onset

Immediate ergonomic and postural support upon correct adjustment and use.
