Saddle Chair

Description

The Plinth Medical Premium Saddle Chair - Standard (Model 1020) is an ergonomic clinical saddle chair designed for use in medical environments where staff sit for long periods. The saddle-shaped seat promotes corrective posture when seated, encouraging an open hip angle and upright spine, while an integrated seat-tilt facility allows fine adjustment for added comfort and positioning. The standard model offers a height range of 48–59 cm and can be specified with an optional backrest (Model 1127) for further support. The chair is mounted on a stable five-point wheeled base, upholstered in healthcare-grade vinyl available in a wide range of colours, and can be configured with optional specialist castors and accessories.

Bnefits

  • Saddle-shaped seat design promotes corrective posture with an open hip angle and more upright spinal alignment.
  • Standard height range of 48–59 cm suits typical couch, treatment and work-surface heights in clinical environments.
  • Seat tilt facility allows the user to fine-tune pelvic position and comfort for different procedures and working styles.
  • Optional backrest (Model 1127) provides additional support for the lower and mid-back when sitting for long periods.
  • Five-point wheeled base enhances stability while enabling smooth movement around patients and equipment.
  • Optional castor types (anti-static, load locking, glides, manual braked) allow configuration for specific flooring and safety needs.
  • Healthcare-grade vinyl upholstery is durable, easy to clean and available in multiple colours to coordinate with clinic interiors.
  • Designed specifically for medical environments where clinicians and technicians require ergonomic seating for extended use.

  • Configuration typically includes saddle seat, gas column, five-point base and castors.
  • Optional accessories such as backrest and specialist castors supplied separately when ordered.
  • May be delivered part-assembled, requiring fitting of base, gas column and seat according to instructions.

Usage

  • Place the chair on a clean, level and stable floor surface suitable for wheeled furniture.
  • Adjust the seat height within the 48–59 cm range using the gas lift control so that feet are flat on the floor (or a suitable footrest) and hips are slightly higher than knees in the saddle position.
  • Use the seat tilt adjustment to achieve a comfortable pelvic position that encourages an upright spine while allowing easy forward reach to the patient or work surface.
  • If a backrest is fitted, set the height and angle so that it supports the lower and mid-back without restricting upper body movement.
  • Confirm that all adjustment levers are securely engaged and that the base feels stable before use.
  • During use, avoid leaning excessively or placing weight on one side of the chair that could compromise stability.
  • Clean the vinyl upholstery and hard surfaces between patients or when visibly soiled using approved clinical detergents or disinfectant wipes compatible with healthcare vinyl.
  • Periodically inspect the upholstery, gas column, tilt mechanism, base and castors for wear or damage; remove the chair from service and arrange maintenance or replacement if any safety concerns are identified.

Contraindications

  • Do not use the chair if there is visible structural damage, instability or malfunction of the gas-lift, base or adjustment mechanisms.
  • Not suitable for use on uneven, highly sloped or very slippery flooring where chair stability and castor performance may be compromised.
  • Should not be used by individuals whose weight exceeds the manufacturer’s recommended safe working load (if specified in accompanying documentation).
  • Not intended to be used as a step, ladder, patient seat or support surface.

Adverse Effects

  • Incorrect adjustment of height or seat tilt may contribute to discomfort or musculoskeletal strain during prolonged use.
  • Use on unsuitable flooring or with worn castors may increase the risk of uncontrolled rolling or tipping.
  • Failure of the gas-lift or tilt mechanism, if not maintained or replaced when worn, could lead to sudden seat movement.
  • Use of harsh or incompatible cleaning agents may degrade upholstery and surface finishes over time.

Storage Conditions

  • Use and store indoors in a dry clinical or office environment.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or strong heat sources that may fade or degrade vinyl upholstery and plastic components.
  • Do not stack heavy items on the seat, which could deform the foam and upholstery.
  • When not in regular use, park the chair in a clean, dry area away from escape routes and moving equipment.

Duration

Not applicable \u2013 ergonomic seating product; used for the duration of clinical tasks or procedures as required.
