Alcohol surface disinfectant wipes for non-invasive medical devices

Description

Medipal Chlorhexidine Alcohol Wipes for Surfaces (Pack of 200 sachets) are single-use disinfectant wipes saturated with a solution containing 2% chlorhexidine and 70% alcohol. They are designed for the rapid cleaning and disinfection of hard, non-porous surfaces of non-invasive medical devices within healthcare and care environments. Packed as individually wrapped sachets, each wipe provides controlled dosing of the active solution, ensuring consistent coverage and contact time. The wipes are ultra-low linting, suitable for professional use only, and have been independently tested to a range of European EN standards, including EN16615, demonstrating broad-spectrum efficacy against bacteria and viruses on hard surfaces.

Bnefits

  • Provides rapid and effective surface disinfection using a combination of 2% chlorhexidine and 70% alcohol.
  • Intended for hard surfaces of non-invasive medical devices in healthcare and care environments, supporting infection prevention protocols.
  • Individually wrapped sachets help maintain sterility of each wipe until use and support controlled dosing.
  • Ultra-low linting material minimises the risk of leaving fibres or residues on disinfected surfaces.
  • Independently tested to a range of European EN standards, including EN16615, for validated antimicrobial performance.
  • Convenient single-sachet format is ideal for use in procedure trays, emergency kits and on-the-go clinical practice.
  • Suitable where a combined chlorhexidine and alcohol disinfection step is recommended by local policy or device guidance.
  • Helps standardise cleaning and disinfection technique compared with sprays or bulk liquids.

Indications

  • Disinfection of hard, non-porous surfaces of non-invasive medical devices that are compatible with alcohol and chlorhexidine.
  • Use in healthcare and care environments such as hospitals, clinics, dental practices, general practice surgeries and aesthetic/dermatology treatment rooms.
  • Rapid turnaround cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces associated with non-invasive devices (e.g. external casings, stands, trolleys, monitors) where appropriate.
  • Use as part of an infection prevention and control regimen requiring 2% chlorhexidine and 70% alcohol wipes.
  • For professional use only, as stated by the manufacturer and distributors.

Composition

  • Chlorhexidine gluconate 2% (w/v) in the impregnating solution
  • Alcohol 70% (typically denatured ethanol or isopropyl alcohol blend, as specified on regional labelling)
  • Purified water (q.s. to 100%)
  • Non-woven wipe substrate (Medipal/Pal Tritex-type synthetic material) supplied as individual sachet wipes
  • Minor excipients and denaturants associated with denatured alcohol, as detailed in the product’s safety data sheet

Formulation

  • Pre-saturated, single-use non-woven wipes in individual sachets.
  • Impregnated with a disinfectant solution containing 2% chlorhexidine and 70% alcohol in purified water.
  • Ultra-low linting substrate engineered for high strength and minimal fibre shedding.
  • Rapid-drying formulation designed to leave minimal visible residue on compatible hard surfaces.
  • Intended for use as a surface disinfectant for non-invasive medical devices and other hard, non-porous surfaces.

Packaging

  • Box containing 200 individually wrapped sachet wipes.
  • Each sachet contains a single pre-saturated wipe for single use only.
  • Typical wipe size approximately 190–200 mm x 100–110 mm (exact dimensions may vary slightly depending on batch/region).
  • Outer packaging clearly labelled with product name, active ingredients (2% chlorhexidine, 70% alcohol), indications and safety information.
  • Bulk cases commonly supplied as 10 boxes of 200 (2000 wipes) for institutional purchasing under the same manufacturer code.

Usage

  • For professional use only; always follow local infection prevention and control policies.
  • Check that the device or surface is compatible with alcohol and chlorhexidine before use.
  • Open one sachet immediately before use and remove the wipe.
  • If the surface is visibly soiled, use the wipe (or a separate cleaning wipe) first to remove dirt and organic material before final disinfection.
  • Wipe the surface thoroughly using an S-shaped motion, working from clean to dirty areas, ensuring full coverage.
  • Ensure the surface remains visibly wet for the full contact time recommended by local protocols and EN test data (typically at least 30 seconds to several minutes depending on the target organism).
  • Use additional wipes if needed to maintain wetness for the required contact time or if the wipe becomes visibly soiled or dry.
  • Allow the surface to air dry completely; do not rinse or manually dry, as this may reduce disinfectant efficacy.
  • Dispose of the used wipe and sachet in the appropriate clinical or domestic waste stream in accordance with local regulations.
  • Do not flush wipes down toilets. Wash hands or use appropriate hand hygiene after use if necessary.

Contraindications

  • Not intended for use on invasive medical devices or instruments that enter sterile body sites.
  • Not for direct application to large areas of human skin, open wounds or mucous membranes unless explicitly indicated by the manufacturer (these are surface wipes for devices and hard surfaces).
  • Do not use on alcohol- or chlorhexidine-sensitive materials or surfaces, including some plastics, painted, varnished or acrylic surfaces, unless compatibility has been confirmed.
  • Avoid use on electrical equipment where liquid ingress could pose a safety risk, unless device manufacturer guidance permits careful use.
  • Contraindicated for individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to chlorhexidine, alcohol or other components of the formulation.
  • Do not use near open flames, hot surfaces or other ignition sources due to the flammable alcohol content.

Adverse Effects

  • Prolonged or repeated skin contact with the impregnated solution may cause dryness, irritation or dermatitis.
  • Eye contact can cause irritation, redness and discomfort; rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
  • Inhalation of concentrated vapours in poorly ventilated areas may cause headache, dizziness or respiratory irritation.
  • Ingestion of the solution can cause gastrointestinal irritation and requires prompt medical attention.
  • Allergic reactions to chlorhexidine (including rash, urticaria or, rarely, more serious hypersensitivity reactions) are possible; discontinue exposure and seek medical help if such reactions occur.
  • Flammable solution: improper handling or storage near ignition sources can lead to fire or explosion hazards.

Storage Conditions

  • Store in the original outer carton in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
  • Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other sources of ignition; no smoking near stored product.
  • Protect from direct sunlight and extremes of temperature, in line with information on the outer packaging and safety data sheet.
  • Keep sachets in the box until required to prevent damage and drying out.
  • Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised persons.
  • Dispose of empty packaging and unused expired product in accordance with local regulations.

Duration

Single-application surface disinfectant; each wipe is used once to clean and disinfect a surface, with the active solution acting during the contact time (typically 30 seconds to several minutes). Overall frequency and duration of use are determined by local cleaning schedules and infection control policies.

Onset

Antimicrobial action begins immediately on application to the surface, with validated kill times typically achieved within the specified EN-standard contact periods (often within minutes), provided the surface remains visibly wet for the required time.
